For 35 Years the annual Rolleston Fireworks show has enthralled locals and visitors. This year’s event lived up to expectation attracting a crowd of at least 15,000, who were treated to a lavish fireworks display, rides and plenty else to provide a great night out for the family. One of the organisers, Trisha Pullin, said she and the organising committee were “absolutely delighted” with how the event turned out. “We were a little worried at the beginning, because of the windy conditions. But we got clearance from the Fire Service and from that point it was all on, and people were coming
through the gates in droves,” she said. Fireworks were the feature of the night. Moreover, there was a lot more on offer to entice the crowd at this familyorientated event. Four primary school bands and the Lincoln High Youth Band provided the entertainment; Centrestage offered up the theatrical flair; there was no
shortage of rides and stalls to keep children entertained and families fed. The Selwyn Youth Support team ran a free obstacle course and offered a free phone charging station; the NZ Army came up with a Pinzgauer vehicle for children and adults to climb in and ask questions of the army personnel present.
