p Maddie Phipps and Lauren Voice-Powell from Affinity Gymnastics Academy competed at The Christchurch School of Gymnastics Classic Competition on the weekend. The girls were up against other clubs from across New Zealand and Australia.Maddie placed third overall, third on vault and third on beam, and Lauren placed second on beam at the two-day event. The girls were supported by academy coaches Angela Meier and Todd Meaclem. “Maddie and Lauren have been involved in the sport for many years and are Step Eight gymnasts,” says academy manager Tracey Jones. “We had 35 team members representing our club in the competition, and they all worked incredibly hard. These opportunities are a great experience for all age groups and in general, we accomplished a lot of placings overall with the girls and boys and we all had a great time, and came away feeling happy and successful.”
