p The mysterious caped crusader, defender of Gotham and strategic mastermind of the Justice League, made a visit to Dargaville last week to meet the team at Greenways Trust. The heroic Batman brought his latest high-tech creation with him. A twin turbocharged Batmobile 3.0, complete with a bat-themed grille, customised interior, and a secret compartment in the boot filled with villain-busting gadgets. “I go wherever I’m needed,” said the Dark Knight, who brought gifts and an unforgettable experience for his Dargaville fans.

In it for the long term, the incorporated societies desire to create a theatre for all the arts, from visual to theatrical. Mangawhai Players director Susan Dugdale, chair Don Windley and Ōtamatea Repertory Theatre committee member Brittany Bray met with councillors last Wednesday, as an early step towards their long-term aspiration. “The impetus behind this is to bring together intent to build a hub that houses theatre, music, art, dance and

everything collectively art in one place,” said Susan. “A benefit to the community, it is not only to house the collective arts, but also a place which draws more in, including international and national touring shows. We want to make it open, fit for purpose, multicultural and a beautiful celebration of arts for everyone.” Wanting to make it fit for purpose, the groups are proposing that the speculative building be suitable for productions,

dancers, conferences, artists and music, amongst others. “We are hoping that this is going to be a true art centre with a multitude of rooms that are suitable for every different aspect in the area. We are enthusiastic and willing to put in the work, and what we need is the council’s support to make it happen for our community,” said Brittany. Still in the early stages of completing the goal, Don said he is currently looking for community support. ¢
