DURABLE GARMENTS
It is important that our products remain in use for as long as possible, and we take multiple measures to ensure this. During product development, we prioritize high-quality raw materials to provide the best foundation for a long lifespan. Regarding design, we deliberately avoid trendy elements that could shorten the product’s usability due to changing fashion trends.
ESG
ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) is a framework for evaluating how a company manages its impact on the environment, society, and its corporate governance practices. ELKA works with an ESG plan that involves both the organization, the product footprint itself, and the supply chain.
CHEMICAL STRATEGY
We keep a close eye on the chemicals. Our chemical strategy is based on ongoing compliance analyses and close dialogue with suppliers. Updates of chemical lists are closely monitored, and the development of new rules and requirements is monitored via a digitally structured legal monitoring system. To ensure compliance, we have implemented a testing program through which we regularly analyse selected products for chemical content. For this purpose, we always use an accredited third-party laboratory.
CARBON ACCOUNT
ELKA has developed a comprehensive carbon account, which provides a complete overview of the company’s greenhouse gas emissions (CO2e). Our carbon account covers emissions from our own operations (Scope 1), emissions from the energy we purchase (Scope 2), and the many emissions generated throughout our entire value chain (Scope 3). Bureau Veritas is a global company with expertise in quality, environment, occupational health and safety, and social responsibility. ELKA works closely with Bureau Veritas, which advises ELKA on matters related to ESG, the EU framework for Environmental, Social, and Governance factors, including LCA and PEFCR calculations. In addition, Bureau Veritas advises ELKA on product safety, including the development and enforcement of ELKA’s chemical strategy.

BSCI AND SEDEX AUDITED PARTNERS
We focus on ensuring responsibility, also in our supply chain. Therefore, all our suppliers from Asia either participate in BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative) or are registered with Sedex (Supplier Ethical Data Exchange). Both are global initiatives that support companies in managing social and ethical responsibility in their supply chains, including through independent audits and continuous improvement processes.

We are pleased to offer production at our own factory in Europe, located close to our head office in Denmark. In total, approximately 50% of our garments are produced in Europe, using fabrics and trim of European origin.

The majority of the ELKA range are certified according to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, one of the world’s best-known labels for textiles tested for harmful substances. Read more on page 9.
OEKO-TEX ® STANDARD 100 – RECYCLED
The OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certification is available for both traditionally manufactured products and products containing recycled materials. The OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 icon with “R” added in the label number documents that the product contains recycled materials, in addition to confirming that the product has been tested for harmful substances. Read more on page 9.
In our collection, we offer products made primarily from recycled materials. The polyester fabric in these garments is recycled polyester, a type of fiber made from recycled sources, including PET bottles. However, not all components are recycled, which is why we detail the composition of recycled and virgin components for each product. Transparency is important to ELKA. Read more on page 10.
DIGITAL PRODUCT PASSPORT
We attach QR codes to our products, linking them to the digital product passport. This ensures we are prepared to comply with the EU requirements for the Digital Product Passport (DPP). Read more on page 8.
LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT – TRANSPARENCY
ELKA has completed Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) on approximately 60 products. LCA is a scientific method used to analyse a product’s total environmental impact – from raw materials and production to use and disposal. In other words, LCA provides us with a comprehensive picture of the product’s footprint throughout its entire life cycle, from cradle to grave.
Based on the results, ELKA aims to identify the stages in product creation with the greatest environmental impact, in order to enable continuous improvements.
As part of our commitment to transparency, the LCA results are available to our partners, helping to support their environmental reporting and allowing them to benchmark one ELKA product against another ELKA product.
Whenever an LCA is available, it is clearly marked on the individual product in this catalogue.

TOOL AND METHOD
ELKA’s LCAs are conducted using a SimaPro-powered tool, a specialised tool designed to carry out Life Cycle Assessments of textile products. The method used for the calculations is ReCiPe Midpoint H (2016) which contains 16 environmental impact categories. Four of these environmental impact categories, considered the most relevant for the type of products ELKA manufactures, have been selected for ELKA’s LCA’s:
1. Global Warming Potential (kg CO2-eq)
2. Fossil Ressource Scarcity (MJ)
3. Water consumption (L)
4. Land use (m2)
CRADLE-TO-GRAVE AND CRADLE-TO-GATE
When conducting an LCA on a product, there are different approaches depending on how much of the life cycle is included in the assessment.
Cradle-to-Grave: Includes data covering the product’s whole life cycle from raw material extraction to the disposal of the product.
Cradle-to-Gate: Includes data covering the product’s life cycle from raw material extraction to the point when the product leaves the factory.
ELKA’s LCAs include both cradle-to-grave and cradle-to-gate data. Both are available from ELKA upon request.

APPLICATION OF THE PEFCR METHOD
We are working to obtain third-party verified calculations based on the PEF method. The European Union has approved the PEFCR version 3.1 for Apparel and Footwear (Product Environmental Footprint Category Rules), which creates a common language and framework for assessing the environmental impact of Apparel and Footwear products. By obtaining calculations based on the PEF method, ELKA gains additional tools to identify environmental challenges throughout the lifecycle of each product, thereby enabling systematic work towards improvements.
MORE PRIMARY DATA FROM THE SUPPLY CHAIN
We will continue our efforts in collecting data and, through gathering more primary data from the supply chain, aim to achieve a higher level of data quality and greater precision in the results.

READY FOR FUTURE DEMANDS
At ELKA, we are ready to meet the EU requirements for the Digital Product Passport (DPP). The DPP is designed to ensure transparency and provide access to information about, among other things, the products’ origin, materials, environmental impact, durability, repairability, and recyclability.
ELKA has already implemented a DPP system, which means that we attach a QR code to every product, linking it to its digital product passport. Here, we provide basic data, including article number, country of origin, materials, and care instructions. Additional data will be added, and we are collaborating closely with our suppliers to secure and structure this information, ensuring that we can report all correct details as soon as the full requirements for the DPP are known.
The DPP requirements are expected to roll out starting in 2027, and ELKA is fully prepared to meet them.
OUR CHOICE: FULL CARBON ACCOUNT
ELKA has developed a comprehensive Carbon Account, providing a complete overview of the company’s greenhouse gas emissions (CO2e). For a company of ELKA’s size, preparing a Carbon Account is optional – but at ELKA, we have deliberately chosen to do so. In addition, we are committed to producing a report that covers not only Scope 1 and 2 but also Scope 3 emissions.

We use European fabric and trim in our Made in Europe collections and we work closely with carefully selected suppliers, all of whom stand for high quality requirements, including REACH.
The Made in Europe collection contains a wide range of products, all with the common feature that they are produced at our plant in Lithuania. We are experts in PU and PVC high frequency welding, which is the absolute strongest production technology for waterproof workwear in these materials. The result is PU and PVC products with a high water column pressure of 10.000/15.000/20.000 mm - with both waterproof fabric and waterproof seams.
