Transition

My name is Mrs Bateson and I am the head of transition at Sirius Academy North. I work with all of the primaries for Y5 and Y6 to visit our academy and make sure the transition from primary to secondary is supportive and smooth. I visit all Y6 in their primary schools during the summer term to explain the transition process and answer any questions from the children. This also gives me chance to speak to the Y6 teachers and find out all about you and how we can support your move to our academy.

Student Experience

Hello, my name is Mr Wilson. I am a teacher of Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) and the Lead for Student Experience.
As part of my role, I oversee the Broadening Horizons curriculum principle, which includes coordinating afterschool enrichment, educational trips, rewards programmes, and a wide range of events such as cultural celebrations, Christmas activities, and student competitions.
I also lead and organise the school’s prefect programme, supporting students in developing leadership, responsibility, and positive contribution to school life

Safeguardging

My name is Mrs Crooks and I am the Safeguarding Lead at Sirius Academy North. I work with a team of people to make sure everyone has support if they have any problems, both in school and at home. If you have a problem, or you think someone else has a problem, you can talk to any adult in the academy and they will listen to and explain how you can get support. It’s always better to talk.

Mrs Crooks

Student Services

Hello, my name is Mrs McLintock. You will find me at Student Services near the canteen.
I can help you with lots of things. If you need to borrow uniform, get medical help, you've sat in something, forgot your pack up, I am here to help.
I also have spare socks, underwear, plasters. Lost property and time tables.
If you need anything I am here to help.

Attitude to Learning

At the end of every half term students and their Lesson 1 teacher make a judgement on the Attitude to Learning they have displayed over the past half term.
Students give themselves a rating for 5 important areas of Academy life. The aim for all students is to be rated as an Expert Learner.
The benefits of achieving Expert Learner status to the student are increased confidence that they have transitioned successfully to secondary school and increased academic progress.
Expert Learners receive a triple star badge, a certificate, a parental letter, recognition in their year group assembly as well as access to Expert only events.

Prefects
Bethany leads by example and is involved in promoting the reward aspects of the academy. Part of the role includes Bethany handing out hot chocolates on a Friday for students as a reward for those that have been highlighted for positivity.

Grace, our head of Respect, runs our student L1 Rep Programme. Every half term, our L1 rep meeting is held to provide feedback and ideas to help develop and improve the academy based on our students suggestions. Grace also runs a number of Respect campaigns.

Zak leads on our Peer mentor programme that is used at Sirius Academy North. Zak supports all of students that need additional help. Zak is always a student that you can turn to and ask for any support and advise.

Hannah is working with our Enrichment team to provide opportunities to our students. Hannah helps promoting new activities and works heavily with PE providing competitions for students to partake in. Hannah is also our lead prefect for transitions, helping our new Y7 students..

Vinnie is involved in organising and developing charity and parental events that we hold in the academy such as a sponsored walk across the Humber Bridge, a community quiz and our Visit Santa experience.

Enrichment
Building an awareness of the world, building vocabulary and broadening horizons is a way to increase academic achievement now and therefore to give access to more options next. Increasing your knowledge and awareness of the world, broadening your horizons will support you later in life in many ways.

The rich knowledge and skills you learn in your timetabled lessons is a key way to broaden horizons but here are many other opportunities for you to do broaden your horizons:
• Use the cultural capital information around the academy
• Follow the reading routes
• Enrichment clubs
• Ask for subject specific reading in your subjects
• Enrichment competitions
• Get involved in student voice

Enrichment

Our enrichment timetable changes every half term, providing students with new and exciting opportunities to explore their interests and try new things. To view our current enrichment timetable and see what activities are available this half term, please visit our school website or contact our administration office. We look forward to providing our students with a fun and enriching learning experience, and helping them to develop into well-rounded individuals.

Trips
School trips offer a valuable opportunity for students to learn outside of the traditional classroom setting. By visiting new places, experiencing different cultures, and engaging in hands-on activities, students can broaden their horizons and gain a deeper understanding of the world around them. These experiences can be particularly valuable for students who may not have the opportunity to travel or explore new places outside of school. School trips can expose students to new ideas, perspectives, and ways of life, helping to broaden their understanding and empathy for others.
In addition to the cultural and social benefits, school trips can also support academic learning. By providing real-world examples and experiences, students can gain a deeper understanding of the subjects they are studying and see how they apply in the real world.
School trips can foster important life skills such as independence, problem-solving, and teamwork. By navigating unfamiliar environments and interacting with new people, students can develop resilience and adaptability, which are valuable skills for success in any field.
At our school, we believe that school trips are an essential part of a well-rounded education. We offer a variety of trips throughout the year, ranging from local cultural excursions to international study tours. Our trips are designed to be inclusive and accessible to all students, regardless of background or financial means.

Secrets of Success

Expectations

Attendance

Attendance

#AttendanceTransforms
We know above everything being in school is the most important way for us to support our students.
When we talk about good attendance
• We talk about above 95% attendance, this equates to a maximum of 9 days absent in a school year.
• That everyday counts - one gap can get bigger and bigger leading to a much bigger issue than people think.
• That 100% weeks are the way to improve (this includes Fridays!)
• Better attendance means better access to support.
• Better attendance means increased immediate well-being.
• Better attendance is linked to GCSEs which are linked to next steps, future earnings and lifelong well-being.

Unauthorised Absence
Students who reach 10 unauthorised sessions absent (5 days) in a 10 week period (e.g. Week 1-10 in 2025/26) will be placed on Stage 1 Attendance Monitoring for 2 weeks.

There are many benefits to being in school and on time:

• Access to our fantastic Personal Development programme in Lesson 1

• Leads to a higher rate of success and self-confidence.
