In recent weeks, the plight of the R59 has sparked numerous complaints, prompting an investigation into the state of this pivotal route
Both Viljoenskroon and Vredefort depend on the R59 as their primary means of access, making its maintenance essential for the economic and social stability of the communities it serves
Cllr Brendan Olivier of the DA in the Ngwathe Municipality has been at the forefront of this issue
“Starting from Vredefort, we encounter the first major potholes opposite an unlicensed dump site On 3 October, these were filled with loose ground in a temporary fix to avoid carnage on the road,” he said
He highlighted that the potholes along this route vary significantly in size, with some merely causing discomfort, while others pose severe risks, creating potential for accidents at normal driving speeds
