Threeaccused appeared brieflybefore the Ventersburg Magistrates’ Courton18June following their arrest on the same day. They face chargesrelatingto fraudand moneylaundering.
They areNicoletteSybil Goddefroy (50), company director BoitumeloIvy Mthombeni (39) and SMS-SechabaMthombeni Supplier (Pty)Ltd The allegedfraud resulted in alossofR1367 031,65 to the DepartmentofEmployment andLabour.
It is allegedthatduring2021, thecomplainant approached Goddefroy for assistance in submitting aclaim to the Department of Employment and Labour on behalf of hiscompany Thecomplainant paid Goddefroy aservicefee of R1 000.
After experiencing delays in theprocessing of the claim,the complainantmadeenquiries at the DepartmentofEmployment andLabouroffices in
Kroonstad. He wasinformedthata paymenthad already been processedinhis name andpaid to SMS-SechabaMthombeni Supplier (Pty)Ltd,acompany basedinMafikeng, NorthWest.
Thematterwas reported to the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigationunit in Welkom for investigation.
Theinvestigationrevealedthatinsteadofsubmitting the complainant’sclaim to the departmentafter processing it,Goddefroy allegedlyhandedthe documentation to Mthombeni.
