“With enough hands and money,wecan even fill up the graves that have collapsed.

“After the graveyard, we want to expand the projecttoencompass the entireVirginia. Thepotholesin Danie Erasmus Avenue areadangertopeople transportingschool children.”

Vanden Berg says by establishingthe non-profitorganisation, theyare puttingwords into action.

chainsawsand gettingone of the localmotor dealers to sponsor us abakkie This is all beingdone for the love of ourtown.

“Manygravesinour cemetery have quietlyfallenintooblivion over time;not becausetheywere unloved,but becausefamilies have moved, grownolder,orsimply cannolongermaintainthe graves themselves

“Itisverydangerous for widows and bereaved familiestovisit the graves

“We believe: Everyrestingplace deservesdignity, everyname deserves to be remembered, and everygrave deservescare.”

TheGrave Restoration Project will focusoncleaningand restoringgraves, maintaining gardens and pathways,bringingbeautyand peacebacktosacredspaces, and servingthe communitywith love and respect.

“This is aboutmorethanjust cleaninga cemetery– it’s about honouringlives,comforting families,and showing that love doesn’t endwhenwesay goodbye.

He indicated that while theworkahead remains demanding, the administration is firmly focusedon restoring financial discipline,rebuildinginstitutional credibility, and ensuringthat services are deliveredin amanner that is transparent, lawful and sustainable. Centraltothis effortisthe FinancialRecoveryPlan, whichcontinues to guide the municipality’sreform programme

Themayor emphasised that the planshouldnot be viewed as ashort-term remedy,nor assessed through isolated correspondenceorpartialupdates.Itisa structured and ongoinginstitutionalreformprocess aimed at addressing financial andoperational challengesthat accumulated over anumberofyears

Plan implemented to promotecollections

On Monday 23 February, the Matjhabeng LocalMunicipality launchedthe implementation of auxiliarydeductions on prepaid electricitypurchases foraccounts that arein arrearsfor 30 days or more.

In astatement, the municipality said it is mandated to ensurethat all consumerspay for services received,toreduce outstanding arrear debt,and to remain on acurrent accounttoenable the municipality to continue delivering reliable and sustainable servicesto allcommunities
