Disruptiveactions lead to multiple arrests

As part of ongoing efforts to combat illegal mining in theFreeState,disruptive actions resulted in multiple arrests andthe seizure of illegal firearms,ammunition,gold bearing material andcopper cables.

Thesedisruptiveactions were executed on Friday 19 June in the LejweleputswaDistrict

It is part of jointOperation Prosper,involving the SAPS’s Visible Policingunit, K9,Tactical ResponseTeam, Airwingand CrimeIntelligence.

Alsoinvolved aremembers of theSouth AfricanNational Defence Force, TrafficDepartment and privateminingsecuritycompanies

Twoforeign nationals aged 24 and 25 were arrested for unlawful possession of aCZStar 9mm firearmand eightrounds of liveammunition.

Air-to-ground policingactions continued in St Helenaminingareawith guidancefrom the airwing unit.Nine suspects were found in possession of gold bearingmaterialand gold processing equipment, includingpickaxes, buckets and steelplates. Thegoldbearing material weighed17,50 kg

Threesuspects were found in Allanridgebusy with the separation processofgoldona selfmade table.Gold bearingmaterialweighing 6,74 kg wasseized,and the illegalimmigrants were apprehended.

Further arrestswereeffectedinHarmony CountryClub.A33-year-old foreign national wasfound in possession of gold bearingmaterial Theteamalsorecovered coppercable with an estimated value of R12 682.

A40-year-old male suspectwas arrested for possession of drugs in Dagbreek.Packets containingcrystal methwereseized

Membersalsoaddressedthe humantraffickingaspectrelated to illicit mining and 12 undocumentedpersons were apprehended.

Further actions areplannedtocontinue with thedisruptionofillicit mining activities in the region.

“Healthisthe mostsensitiveportfoliobecause it deals with humanlives dayand night, and we cannot afford for it to fail.”

This eventforms part of the provincialgovernment’splantostrengthen EMS capacityacrossall districts of the province, includinginthe Mangaung MetroMunicipality.

Theprovincial rollout,which began on 7May,targets the deliveryofatotal of 103 ambulances duringthe 2026’27 financial year Mahlatsi urgedresidents androad userspassing through theFreeState to help curb road carnageand violent conduct that places an enormous burden on EMS resources
