After38years of devotedservice to theministryinWelkom andits surrounding areas, Pastor EddyO’Neill andhis wife,Yvonne, arepreparing to bid farewell to thecommunity they have calledhomefor nearly four decades.

During their tenure, the O’Neills hadthe privilege of ministering both nationally and internationally.

Throughout their ministry, thecouplewitnessed Welkom’s cycles of prosperity and hope, buttheyalsoobservedthe mountingchallenges as localmines began to close.

A506 MW solarpower projectunder development north of Welkom in theFreeState is set to become one of South Africa’s largestprivate renewable energy investments

TheKhauta SolarPVproject, developed by NOAGroup and acquired from PNEAG, is located approximately30kmnorth of Welkom near Riebeeckstad Thefacilityfeaturesmorethan 715 000 solarpanelsspread across 560 hectares.

Theproject is dividedinto twophases: Khauta South with acapacityof349 MW and Khauta West with 157 MW. Once operational, the facilityis expectedtogenerateapproximately 1073 GWhofelectricity annually.
