PROCESS FOR THE AUTHORISED KHAUTA NORTH SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC(PV) ENERGY FACILITY AND ASSOCIATED INFRASTRUCTURE,LOCATED NEARTHE TOWN OF WELKOM INTHE MATJHABENG LOCAL MUNICIPALITYOFTHE LEJWELEPUTSWA DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY,FREESTATE PROVINCE

Applicant: Khauta South SolarPVFacility(RF) (PTY) Ltd

Project Location: Near the townofWelkominthe Matjhabeng Local Municipality of theLejweleputswa District Municipality, Free State Province

Project Description: Nala Environmental (Pty)Ltd wasappointed by Khauta South Solar PV Facility (RF) (Pty) Ltd (The Applicant)toundertake aPart1 EnvironmentalAuthorisation(EA) AmendmentApplication process for the layout optimisation of theauthorisedKhauta North Solar PV Energy Facility and associated infrastructure.

An EA for the Khauta North PVSEF site was issued by theDepartmentofForestry, Fisheriesand the Environment (DFFE)on28June2023(Ref.:14/12/16/3/3/2/2221), followed by several amendments including re-issueofthe EA as per DFFE Ref: 14/12/16/3/3/2/2221/1). Following theapproval of the Khauta NorthSolar PV FacilityEMPr and Layout, theApplicantcommenced with construction during which the EPC determined thatthe approved positionsofthe O&M(Operations & Maintenance)building and the BESS (Battery Energy StorageSystem), LaydownCompound and Batching plantarea needed to be swappedaround (repositioned) within theauthorised Khauta North PV site. Theproposed Part 1amendment application thereforeentailsthe following:

•Repositioning of the BESS, Laydown compoundand batching plant area andO&M by swapping their positions within the authorisedKhauta NorthPVSEF Site

•Amendment to the technical details for the change in thedevelopment footprint of theO&M building from 0.5 ha to 0.3 ha.

•Update of the centre coordinates and additionofthe corner coordinatesfor theamended infrastructure; and

•Update to the final optimised layoutand EMPrbased on the infrastructureamendments

Public Participation Process: In termsofChapter 6ofthe EIARegulationsof2014(as amended), opportunityisprovided to the public to provide commentsonthe proposedamendments. TheEMPr Motivation report and all appendicesassociated forthe Part 1Amendment Application will be made available to Interested and/or Affected Parties (I&APs) for review and commentfor aperiodof30days, from the 22 May 2026 –22June2026(both daysinclusive, excluding public holidays).
