THE Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Speaker's Office hosted a Women's Month commemoration event at the Tamboville Multi-Purpose Centre in KwaLanga, Kariega
Every August, South Africa celebrates Women's Month, honouring the over 20,000 women who marched to the Union Buildings on 9 August 1956 in protest against the Pass Laws This year marks 69 years since the historic march and 30 years of National Women s Day, celebrated under the theme "Building Resilient Economies for All " Nontombi Nama, representing the Office of the NMBM Chief Whip, explained the purpose of the day, highlighting the importance of uniting to tackle challenges faced by women, such as poverty, unemployment, and Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF)
Delivering the keynote address at the event, Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality (NMBM) Speaker of Council Eugene Johnson stressed that empowering women and youth is fundamental to driving economic growth "Without women and youth fully participating in business, our metro cannot reach its full potential When women succeed, the entire metro benefits through stronger families and communities," she noted
The commemoration was a celebration and a call to action honouring the trailblazing women of 1956 while striving to create a city where equality, safety, and opportunity are realities for every woman
Among the dignitaries was Chrisna Fillis from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in Kariega, who reaffirmed the NPA's commitment to combat violence against women She also encouraged women to avoid withdrawing charges, assuring them that the law stands to protect them
Zolile Dayimani from the Phila Ndoda Movement delivered a compelling address, emphasising that discussions about GBVF often focus exclusively on men as perpetrators, while men can also be victims He pointed out that cultural stereotypes, such as "a man doesn't cry," prevent men from expressing their emotions
Dayimani urged women not to hinder their children from maintaining relationships with their fathers after separation He called on men to protect women and to raise boys to be responsible, supportive, and devoted to their families
"We are all facing mental health challenges, but we need to find ways to live together harmoniously Self-reflection is crucial Let’s teach our sons to be better leaders As men, in these challenging times; Phila Ndoda," Dayimani concluded
the competition. Judging is conducted by an independent panel, and their decision is final.

MotorMech&Alles-op-Wielepromisestobeashowstopper
EXCITEMENT is building in preparation for the next Motor Mech show which is once again being held by the Motor Industry Workshop Association (MIWA), a proud association of the Retail Motor Industry Organisation (RMI), in conjunction this year with Concept Crew Car Club at the Daniel Pienaar Technical High School in Kariega on Saturday, 30 August
This is the fourth consecutive Alles op Wiele that is presented by Concept Crew Car Club and the second year that the team has partnered with RMI and MIWA to add the Motor Mech component The event promises to be a real showstopper!
Peter van Mosseveld, RMI Regional Manager in the Eastern Cape, says Motor Mech is the ideal showcase for the automotive industry to attract upcoming and aspiring mechanics
“We want to raise awareness and excitement about the motor industry We want junior school children to know there is a career in motor mechanics and to know which schools are available for this career For those in high school, we would like to educate them on what the industry is all about and the options in terms of technical high schools, colleges, and workshops that are available We are excited to share our passion for the industry! From training to quality parts, to graded workshops – all working together to improve skills levels and

customer experiences,” says Van Mosseveld
He says Daniel Pienaar Technical High School is a perfect partner because they’re not only the oldest technical high school in South Africa, but also the only school that offers Motor Sport as a school sport “They’re super passionate about technical education and supporting young talent, just as we are!”
The Motor Mech school competition will start at 09:00 on the day and will showcase the

brightest young talent in the sector
The addition of the Concept Crew cars again this year will, once again, add enormous interest The Concept Crew Car Club, which will be displaying approximately 445 Classic Cars, promises to be a real showstopper The day will also be jam-packed with other displays and plenty of competitions Commenting on the show Pierre Janse van Rensburg from Concept Cars says, “Most of the Concept Crew
TANNIEBETS:
Club members are old boys of Daniel Pienaar and it is a privilege to be part of the school again Next year the club will be 15 years old and as a club we are really striving hard to include the community, school and businesses in the area In the past everyone tried to promote their own entity and this show has managed to consolidate everything into one spectacular showcase ”
Kola du Toit, Principal of Daniel Pienaar Technical High School, says the school is delighted to be hosting the Motor Mech show with MIWA as an industry partner once again “To tackle the skills shortage, we need to align what’s taught in schools, colleges, and universities more closely with real-world industry needs AI, automation, and electronics must be integrated into the curriculum so that young talent is better equipped to work on and with hybrid cars Closer alignment between education and industry would mean better skills transfer, more donations of equipment, and smoother transitions from school to learnerships or apprenticeships It would be a winwin for everyone,” she said “Daniel Pienaar Technical High School is exceptionally proud and excited to be hosting this momentous occasion during its celebration of its 130th year of existence!”

KallaManiecharitygolfdayteesoffagain
THE second edition of the KallaManie Benefit Golf Day is set to take place on 7 September at the Wedgewood Golf Club in Gqeberha
After a very successful inception, raising R30,000 for their 2024 beneficiary, John Walton Secondary School, they are back again this year, hoping to raise even more money for charity
The KallaManie Benefit Foundation has been set up in the name of Manie Daniels, who was unexpectedly taken from his family, friends, and community in 2023 This teacher, avid golfer and fisherman, and pillar of the community, dedicated his life to helping his fellow man He aligned himself with educating those around him to want more from and for themselves
The Foundation is registered as a Non-Profit Company (NPC), and all proceeds from fundraising initiatives will be utilised to support a variety of good causes This year's beneficiary will be the junior golf development programme of the Eastern Cape region of the South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB)
Their mission is to create a platform to search, identify, develop and support talented players and also to promote and grow the game of golf amongst underprivileged South African communities Although their mandate and mission are clear, the SAGDB is severely underfunded All money raised by this golf day will be directed towards assisting the participants with transport to tournaments, with golf equipment and with practice balls
Manager of the SAGDB's Eastern Cape Division, Frans De Kock, said that Devon Valentine and Johndre Ludick have been

their greatest success stories
"When you say success stories, these two immediately come to mind It's been a long time since the SAGDB has seen talent like this We need the help to find more talent [like them]," he said De Kock added, "We need financial assistance to cultivate skills and get our players to tournaments This is the only way we can truly showcase what our kids are made of "
The daughters of the late Manie Daniels also came through the SAGDB, and both used the foundation built there to carry

on very successful golf careers Jamie-Lee Daniels, the youngest daughter, has multiple accolades under her belt – which include several provincial team colours, captaincies and trophies Her eldest sister, Kim Daniels, mirrors her sister's achievements, which also include representing South Africa at many international tournaments
Proceeds from the KallaManie Foundation Golf Day on 7 September will be channelled to this worthy cause However, the total project costs will exceed any potential income generated by the golf
day
“Therefore, we are appealing to businesses and individuals from the extended KallaManie family, as well as the broader community, to consider contributing (cash or in kind) towards this worthy cause Supporting children in sport was an endeavour very close to the heart of the late Manie 'Kalla' Daniels,” De Kock concluded For more information or any enquiries, contact Jamie-Lee Daniels on 061 094 3593, Jeffrey du Preez on 082 903 2694 or email kallamaniedaniels1963@gmail com

SHANTI JAFTA
MOEGAMAT Shakier Vockerodt (12), widely known in the community as "Xavi," after the Barcelona legend and his role model, was selected to participate in an elite four-team football tournament in Mutare, Zimbabwe
The tournament, an initiative of Kitoko Soccer School, caters to aspiring footballers aged 7 to 19 A statement shared with participants reads: "We believe this trip will provide invaluable opportunities for personal development and allow our players the chance to be scouted by PSL (Premier Soccer League) teams " The tournament begins on 28 August, with participants returning on 1 September
The statement further highlighted, "Kitoko Soccer School has chosen Moegamat Shakier Vockerodt, a talented young player from Kariega, to join us on this exciting trip " Jamaine Accom, a family friend committed to supporting Xavi’s dream, has been instrumental in raising awareness and organising funding initiatives Accom shared that Xavi’s journey into football began under the guidance of his father, Arief Vockerodt, a celebrated footballer in Kariega and surrounding areas
"In June, I helped raise money to send him for trials at Kitoko Soccer School in Pretoria, where he showcased his immense talent He also played in the Volkswagen Vaya Cup U/13 tournament in Johannesburg the same month, scoring four goals across six matches, including the semi-finals and finals I believe Xavi is a gifted footballer with incredible potential," Accom said of the Caritas Primary School learner
Accom strongly believes that exposure to the right scouts and clubs could change Xavi's life and surroundings for the better Notably, Kitoko Soccer School is managed by retired Kaizer Chiefs legend Willard Katsande, further enhancing Xavi’s chances of being noticed by professional clubs
Given Xavi’s underprivileged background, his family is relying on friends and the community for financial assistance "Thus far, we’ve raised R3,500, but we’re still far from the required R15,000," said Accom Highlighting the family’s financial struggles, Accom added: "Xavi's father expressed his stress over meeting the payment deadline of
23 August, having tried all he could Despite the pressure, the family is not giving up " He concluded with a heartfelt plea: "We urge the community to help keep Xavi off the streets and on the field, so he can build a brighter future for himself and his family With many youths falling under bad influences, supporting young talents like Xavi means fostering hope and opportunity " For more information, contact Jamaine Accom at 084 568 3810
