The South AfricanNational Defence Force (SANDF) and thepolicelast week commenced preparatory operations in Cape Townahead of the military's deployment to tackle gang violence in identified crime hotspots. Aselect contingent of police officials and SANDFmembers conducted operational scanning exercises on Wednesday and Thursday last week, involving air and ground presence of limitedforces at variousidentified locations across the city.

For severalyears now, Durbanville has been facing agrowing andheartbreaking issue with domestic rabbits being abandoned in open fields and designated areas

“This is largely drivenbyimpulse purchases especially around Easter whererabbitsare bought as gifts, often for children. Unfortunately, once the novelty wears off, animal rescues across South Africa often see an increase in surrendered rabbits because families were unawareofthe level of care theseanimals require,” shewarns.

“The Easter Bunny tradition dates back manyyears as asymbol of spring and new life. However, the trend of giving real rabbits as Easter gifts has grown more recently, often influenced by commercialisation andsocial media.

“It is already incredibly challenging and emotionally taxing work, especially knowing thatthe cyclecontinues year after year as more rabbits are dumped—many of them by families who simply lose interest,” she says.

“Thisinitiative is notabout taking away thejoy of Easter, but about reshaping it. We want to keepthe magic of Easter alive while protecting animals from unnecessary suffering,”she says.

The tragic event occurred on Thursday, 19 March at approximately 20:00 inDavid Street,Bellville South. The victim was described as well-known within the community.

Police spokesperson Capt FC van Wyk confirmed that acase docket ofmurder was registered following thediscovery of the decapitated body of the79-year-old woman.

Swimmers of Barracuda Aquarama Swimming Club deliveredan outstanding performanceatthe SSA Level 1Age Group Championships, hostedbyCape Town Aquatics on28

Ateam of 21 swimmers represented theclub with pride, determination and exceptional sportsmanship.

The young athletes produced impressive results in the pool, collecting atotal of 39 medals acrossthe competition. The medal tally included six gold medals, 12 silver

medals and21bronze medals,highlighting the strength and depthofthe teamacross multiple events, said Coenie van Graan, headcoach.

“Beyond thepodiumfinishes, the swimmersalso showed significant personal improvement,” he said. “The teamachieved an incredible 86 personal besttimes,demonstrating the dedication of theathletes and the effectivenessof theirtraining programme.”

AQUARAMA SWIMMERS SHINE AT SSACHAMPS

VanGraan praised the swimmers for their commitment andeffort throughout thecompetition.

“Thiswas afantastic achievement for our swimmers. Theresults reflect the hard work they put in at training and their determinationtoimprove every time they race,” he said.

The championship provided valuable racing experience for the developing swimmers and showcased the growing

strengthofthe Barracuda Aquarama programme. With such strong performances early in the season, the future looks bright for the club’syoung athletes, he said.

"Barracuda Aquarama continues to build acompetitive swimming environment focused on technical excellence, highperformance training, and athlete development, and the resultsfromthe Level 1Championships are clear evidence that the club is moving in the right direction," according to Van Graan.

IamaChristian and the Bible teaches us that we need to love our neighbour as we love ourselves. But sadly, we have somehow lost sight of this calling, allowing hatred,anger,and indifference to take over.

Somewhere along the way,many of us have become so consumed by our own struggles, deadlines, finances,stress,and uncertainty that we forget the quiet power of how we treat others.

We rush past people, avoid eye contact, and sometimes respond with frustration instead of patience.

Yet the smallest gestures can leave the deepest marks.

It costs nothing to offer asmile to someoneata traffic lightinsteadof turning away.

It takes littleeffort to speak gently,to listen fully, or to choose understanding over judgment.
