joint safety operation, whichsaw severalrole-players in safety and security come together to help fight crime, was heldinParow recently.
The aim of the operation was to disrupt criminal activity, enforcecompliance and improve safety in thecommunity, said Bronwin Daniels, Parow Community PolicingForum (CPF) chair.
Police, Law Enforcement, Metro Police, Community in Blue,Fidelity ADT, Voortrekker Road Corridor Improvement District(VRCID), andthe CPF took part. Members of the Gambling Board were also in attendance.
Danielssaid the integrated operation once again demonstrated the power of collaboration in thefight against crime.
“The operation yielded immediate results when officers conducted stopand-search activities anddiscovered illegal drugs in the possession of aman,
leading to asuccessful arrest. This serves as areminder that visible policing and intelligence-driven operations remain critical tools in identifying offenders and removing illegal substances from our streets,”said Daniels.
COMPLIANCE
In addition to crime prevention activities, compliance inspections were carried out at several liquor establishments along the Voortrekker Road corridor.
Two establishments were issued fines after being found to be operating in contravention of applicable regulations.
Cityofficesand homessearched
The police's commercial crime investigation unitconducted search and seizure operations on Thursday morning as part of an ongoinginvestigation involving aformer contractor of the City of Cape Town, Triple CMaintenance and Services.
Actingonsearchand seizure warrants, according to police spokesman Col Andrè Traut, investigators executed operations at multiple residentialproperties, as well as aCity of Cape Town office.
"During theoperation, 21 cellular telephonesand nine laptopswere seized for forensic investigation,together with otherpotentialevidential material relevanttothe case," said Traut.
The addresses of three Cityofficials andMayco memberfor finance, Siseko Mbandezi, were searched, as well as that of private individuals linked to the investigation
However, theCity indicated that the Mayorhas not receivedany indication from thepolice that thesearch and seizure relatestowrongdoing of the Mayco member directly, ratherthan ongoing evidence building for the trial of the contractor andothers.

According to the City of Cape Town, the City manager worked with the police in the sting operation that resulted in the arrest of the owner of the business.
"During the staged encounter, the suspect allegedly handed the City Manager R1,4 million in cash. Thepayment was purportedly offered as abribe in exchange for assistance in retaining the vendor’s contracts with the City," says aCity spokesperson.
Theongoing investigation is being conducted jointly by police and the City of Cape Town’sethics and forensics department.
"Theprogress made thus far reinforces the importance of amultidisciplinary approach in uncovering and addressing complex collusive fraud and corruption schemes involving both public officials and private individuals,"says Traut
TheCityfurther stated it is supporting the ongoing police investigation in the matter.
"Theinvestigation also extends beyond the municipal sphere, with search and seizure operations conducted on several external parties."
"TheCityfurther took decisive action to terminate all contracts held by the contractor in question, Triple C Maintenance and Services. Contingency measures were put in place for continuity of service on thiscontract work, including road maintenance, resurfacing and stormwater infrastructure."
Compliance is not optional and all businesseshave aresponsibility to operatewithin theframework of the law to ensure thesafety andwell-being of the communities they serve, she said.
The CPF believesthatoperations such as these are essentialincreating safer communities, Daniels said.
“They not onlyallow law enforcement agencies andsafety partnerstoidentify criminal activity andenforce legislation, butalso send aclear message that criminal behaviour, non-compliance, and activitiesthat threaten community safety will notbetolerated.”
ACCOMMODATION
Agrowing concernisthe rapid increase in student accommodation developments within theParow area, she said.
“While this growthcontributes positively to thelocal economy andeducational opportunities, it alsopresents new safety challenges that require urgent attention from all stakeholders.”
Danielssaid the CPFhas observed an increaseinpublic drinking, disorderly behaviourand people becoming vulnerable to crime duetopublic drunkenness.
“Criminals often exploit these situations, targeting thosewho are unawareoftheirsurroundings or unable
to protect themselves.”
This is not achallenge that can be addressed by law enforcement alone, she said: “It requires acoordinated response from educational institutions, student accommodation providers, local businesses, government departments, community organisations, parents and studentsthemselves.”
ENGAGEMENT
Daniels said the CPF is calling for meaningful engagement between all stakeholders to develop solutions that balance growth, economic development, student welfare and public safety.
“As Parow continues to evolve into an important educational and commercial hub, proactive planning and responsible management will be critical in preventing crime and ensuring that the area remains safe for residents, students, businesses and visitors alike. Thesuccess of thisoperation is proof that when law enforcement agencies, safety structures, private security, businesses and the community work together, tangible results can be achieved,” said Daniels. TheCPF, she added, is committed to supporting theseinitiatives and strengthening partnerships.

“During these engagements, community members were informed about the importanceofchild protection, children's rights andthe procedures for reporting cases of child abuse andneglect. Resource pamphlets containing the contact details of ouroffice andother relevant service providers were distributed to ensure community members know where to access support andassistance when needed,” Germishuys says.
This year's Child Protection Week theme is “Give OneHourfor Child Protection”.

Cape Town is gearing up to host the world’s top hockey nations after being confirmed as the venue for the 2025–26 FIH Hockey Men’s Nations Cup, taking place from Thursday 11 June, to Saturday 20 June at the Hartleyvale Stadium in Observatory.
The South AfricanHockey Association said in astatement the prestigious tournament forms part of the global competition structure of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) and provides the winning nation with the opportunity to be promoted to the 2026–27 FIH Hockey Pro League, the pinnacle of internationalhockey competition.
The event will feature an outstanding lineup of international teams including South Africa, New Zealand, France, Korea, Japan, Wales, Malaysia, Scotland and Ireland.
