"It is my understanding that when the son of afamily heard something suspicious going on and went to investigate, the robbers fled the scene seeing him, and ran across the N1 towards N1 City Mall. Iwas also on the road looking for them when Igot the news.

"I foundtraffic services and highway patrol on the N1, and when Istopped to informthem they were already informed by District Watch and had already been patrolling the N1 highway," says Deon Oosthuizen, vice-chair of the neighbourhood watch. The house is located in Westerwijk Avenue, Plattekloof Glen.

The son of the family also flagged down asecurity officer of District Watch who was in the area at the time, says Oosthuizen. District Watch also shared the news of the incident on their social media pages on 13 January, confirming that one of their officers were flagged down by a

Ongoingsewage spills into rivers, wetlands, beachesand the ocean expose communities to harmful bacteria such as E. coli and Enterococci, while public warnings remain inconsistent or inadequate.Residentssay anxiety overwaterquality hasstripped many communities of simple recreational pleasures andcompromised their wellbeing.

Tourism, hospitality andsmall businessesare alsofeeling the strain as foulodours, beach closures andpollution advisories deter visitors. Residents continue payingrates andtaxeswhile propertyvalues decline andjobs are put at risk

“We payour ratesevery month, yet we can’t safelyswim, walk near the lagoon or let our kids playonthe beach," said resident Deon Jacobs. "This isn’t aluxury issue —it’saboutbasic services and public health.”

According to thepetition, environmental damage caused by sewage pollution is severeand oftenirreversible. "Wetlands, estuaries and marineecosystems are degraded, seabirds andfish are killed, andCapeTown’s unique biodiversityis increasingly threatened —leavingfuture generations to bear the cost,"the petition reads,

As one of Cape Town’s mostbeloved outdoor destinations, Ratanga Park continues to evolve —recently unveiling brand-new ablution and information facilities designed to enhance comfort, convenience, and accessibility for thousands of monthly visitors.

More than just practical improvements, these new facilities carry arich storyand honour the park’s history.

This thoughtful design preserves Ratanga Park’s roots while moving confidently into the future.

The Temperance Flyer once brought joy to countless families winding through Ratanga Junction’s colourful landscapes. After the theme park’s closure, the train found asecond life at the Central Park Natural Goods Marketand special community events like the Carols in the Park, becoming asymbol of local nostalgia

However, years of use meant the train required significant refurbishment.

While awaiting restoration, it was safely storedunderground, its future uncertain —but its legacy alive in the hearts of those who remember itscheerful whistle.

Duringthis time, Andries Keyser,an engineer and owner of the Winelands Light Railway, envisioned anew tram custom-built for Century City.

Baieouersisaandieeuwelvan skoolvervoeruitgelewer
