This is my story. From growing up in Kraaifontein and being told I was too small to succeed, to discovering that faith, perseverance and the support of my family and community can take you further than you ever imagined.” These are the words of Springbok rugby player Cheslin Kolbe on social media announcing the publication of his upcoming memoir, "Sidestepping the Odds". "This book is for anyone who has ever been told they’re not enough. I hope my journey reminds you that your circumstances don’t define your future and that with belief, hard work and resilience, anything is possible." Kolbe was never supposed to become a professional rugby player. Growing up in Kraaifontein, he was always the smallest boy on the field. Coaches doubted him and selectors overlooked him, again and again, because they thought he was too small and too light for top-level rugby. But for him this was a constant challenge. He chose to play against bigger and stronger opponents. Every time he was knocked down, he got back up. He learned to move faster and read the game quicker, proving that rugby is about more than being big, it is about heart.
