Statsrevealtollof traumaonpolice

One member of the police force dies by suicide every week on average, highlighting the mental health toll on South Africa’s overworked and under-resourced first responders

The latest data presented by the police in the first half of the year reveals a sharp increase in both suicide attempts and deaths over the past three financial years

During the 2022- 23 period, two police officers attempted suicide, and 45 died by suicide

In 2023-'24, these numbers rose to four attempts and 62 deaths

For 2024-'25, suicide deaths slightly decreased to 54, while attempts increased to six

In the current financial year, there has been one suicide attempt and three confirmed deaths so far

Police officers are not alone South African paramedics and ambulance personnel, emergency care nurses and doctors, firefighters and rescuers experience depression, anxiety, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and burnout at rates far higher than the general population, according to a study of the mental health of first respondersin the South African Journal of Psychology

PUTTINGLIVESATRISK

The South African Society of Psychiatrists (Sasop) warns that chronic exposure to trauma, coupled with limited resources and lack of mental health support, puts the lives of first responders at risk, along with the lives of those they work to help and protect

Board member of Sasop Dr Alicia Porter said workers on the frontline of responding to crime, domestic violence, large-scale road accidents, medical emergencies and natural disasters are disproportionately susceptible to adverse mental health outcomes

"A study released earlier this year among South African police officers and paramedics showed that 47,3% would qualify for a diagnosis of depression, 37,8% for generalised anxiety disorder, and

"He was an intentional man, someone who was always present and supported us throughout life, at events, our schools, rugby and in our career As a father, he was always present

"He was a loving father and to others who knew him, he was the classic father figure

"People would have a unique connection with him and he always made people feel special in a unique way," Clyde explains

He says his father worked for several years as a social worker as well as a deputy-director in the premier s office, before joining the ministry full-time

"He preached at various other churches prior to joining the ministry full-time

About ten years ago, he left his work and he has been a great servant to the community since," says his son

Clyde describes his father as a loving father to them as children, and loving husband to his mother "He would always bring us together in a difficult time," he says

The family has also seen an outpour of support from those who knew their father

"That means the world to us He had a great impact on so many and the messages mean the world to us," he says

Past Schroeder joined the Lighthouse Christian Centre in 2012

Spiritual leader pays tribute Past Charl van Vollenhoven, an executive pastor at the church, paid tribute to his friend, colleague and mentor saying as a church they are taking their time to mourn in this difficult period

Van Vollenhoven, who grew up in the church, says he worked with Schroeder for about nine years, but that the has known him since the age of 15 years

PSYCHIATRISTS WARN OF MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS AMONG FIRST RESPONDERS

48,5% for post-traumatic stress disorder," says Porter

These levels of mental distress far exceed the prevalence in the general population, of depression and mood disorders estimated at 9,8%, anxiety disorders at 15,8%, and PTSD at 2,3%

Other studies have found that 30% of Western Cape ambulance personnel experience PTSD, and recorded high levels of burnout in advanced life support paramedics in Gauteng with 30% suffering total burnout and 63% experiencing burnout related to work, patient care or personal stress

Mental health disorders are a leading cause of disability both worldwide and in South Africa, where a mental health treatment gap of between 75% and 90% means the majority of people go untreated, according to a study that was outlined in the National Library of Medicine

LACKOFRESOURCES

Porter says this was due to the country’s low provision of resources for mental health treatment, particularly in the public sector where most first responders are located, coupled with pervasive stigma around mental health issues

Employee assistance programmes (EAP) and wellness interventions are of “uneven quality” among emergency services, and employees are reluctant to seek help in the workplace because of actual or perceived lack of confidentiality

The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Police highlighted its concerns last year about the lack of adequate employee health and wellness interventions for police officers, after the police's management advised that the entire police structure has only 621 health and wellness employees to service over 187 000 personnel

"He was a friend and a father to me in many ways He was someone who wore many mantels "

Van Vollenhoven concurred Clyde's sentiments about his father "He saw people and was present, an intentional person He was compassionate and was always present "

He says Schroeder never wanted to be referred to as a senior pastor, but rather a lead servant because he was a servant to the people "He believed in the potential of people, even though they never saw it themselves "

He says Schroeder was someone who embodied what it is to be a father

"He was a great father, a great mentor and he meant a lot to everyone," says Van Vollenhoven

Schroeder lost a daughter in 2009 and his wife in 2018 He is survived by his sons Clyde and Ricky Schroeder

A memorial service will be held tonight (29 October) at 19:00, and his funeral is set to take place on Saturday 1 November at 09:00 at the Lighthouse Christian Centre at 275 Voortrekker Road, Fairfield Estate, Parow

‘Duiwel’ verskyninhof

Road repairs advancing

The City of Cape Town’s Mayco member for urban mobility, Rob Quintas, and the Executive Director for Urban Mobility, Regan Melody, visited Goodwood’s Vasco Boulevard on Monday 20 October, where the City’s Roads Infrastructure Management team has commenced with permanent pothole repair work

The aim is to resurface and reseal approximately 72 sections of different roads in Goodwood this financial year "The road infrastructure in Goodwood is ageing, and some of these roads require extensive repair work to keep Cape Town moving Following the winter season, many roads experienced significant deterioration, placing considerable pressure on our teams to maintain their functionality and ensure they remain safe for all road users We are also aware of the frustration this has caused I want to assure residents that our teams are out and about in Goodwood and working hard to get the repairs done as efficiently and quickly as possible," said Quintas

SEVERALOPERATIONS

Over the last month, the City’s Socony Roads Depot commenced operations to address the potholes that were reported, and to date, 73% of all potholes logged

in the Greater Goodwood area have been attended to The City s Water and Sanitation directorate is also actively working to repair trench reinstatements as a result of maintenance work on water and sewer infrastructure that is located under the roads

At the beginning of October 2025, the City’s dedicated reinstatement project had listed more than 80 reinstatement sites across Goodwood, Townsend Estate, and Vasco, which will be attended to Goodwood also continues to benefit from major capital investments under Water and Sanitation’s city-wide Pipe Replacement Programme Over the past three financial years, more than R8 million has already been spent on water-pipe renewals in Tygerdal and surrounding areas, with a further R6,7 million planned for early 2026 to replace over 2 km of water mains along Watsonia, Acacia, Frangipani, Jasmyn, and Mimosa Streets

. "I encourage residents to report potholes and any other road issues via the City’s Call Centre at 0860 103 089, or on the City App Otherwise, log a service request on www capetown.gov.za/servicerequests or email transport.info@capetown.gov.za," said Quintas

GrandWest has reached the first of several construction milestones in its ambitious R30-million renovation project unveiling the Grand Hotel’s newly transformed Salon Privé lounge and dining area

According to GrandWest General Manager Mervyn Naidoo, the revamp of the Union Castle dining room and Salon Privé has been a long time in the making “The renovation of our Union Castle dining room and Salon Privé has been a long time in the planning It was interrupted by covid, but became a priority when the Grand Hotel expanded to over double its size But we wanted more than just additional space we wanted an experience for our guests, and our interior design specialists have achieved just that ”

The result is a glamorous, magazineworthy transformation created by David Muirhead and Associates, a renowned interior design team whose portfolio includes five-star hotels, luxury guest houses and exclusive game lodges

OPENUPTHEEXISTINGPLAN

Muirhead explained that the design team’s first move was to open up the existing layout “We created space by removing dividing walls Fortunately, there was so much already in place that we could work with the bones were there The structure was good, but the partitioning between areas was more

suited to 2000 when GrandWest was built ”

The design retains much of the original timber work and wall panelling, along with the stately columns that frame the Union Castle dining room A large central bar now anchors the space, accessible both from the dining area and the Salon Privé

ATRIBUTETOCAPETOWN’S

SEAFARINGHERITAGE

While the Union Castle’s original nautical theme a tribute to Cape Town’s seafaring heritage has been preserved, it has been reimagined in a deep, moody navy blue accented by gold and red The rich tones are carried across panelled walls, geometric carpets, and plush furnishings, resulting in a space that feels both chic and dramatic

To balance the darker tones, the triple-volume ceiling is softly backlit, casting a warm glow that highlights the intricate glass panels above Gold-painted Corinthian capitals and red wall sconces add contrast, while black-and-white

Charles Johnston photographs provide a nostalgic nod to Cape Town’s maritime past The dining area now accommodates 94 guests, seated in sumptuous chairs upholstered in gold and blue velvet

'WELL-BALANCEDWITHCOMFORT'

The Privé lounge exudes luxury and

comfort, featuring textured fabrics in muted hues and bold jungle prints The bar area pairs a creamy marble counter with elegant blush-pink bar stools, while the gaming zones continue the opulent palette of gold and red A Chinese-themed private room adds a theatrical touch with daring red tones and a custom-designed dragon chandelier

One of the most dazzling highlights is the massive recycled-glass chandelier suspended above the lounge a showstopping art piece by a Cape Town artist Alongside it, a rectangular light fitting made entirely from recycled glass floats above the bar, both taking two full days to install

Muirhead said the goal was to create “a bold, colourful, glamorous, elegant, boutique-style experience one that appeals to all the senses Although the

styling is contemporary and sophisticated, it is well balanced by comfort ”

Naidoo added that sustainability and atmosphere were key considerations

“All the glass you see here in the chandeliers and fittings is recycled We wanted to build this space responsibly The splash of colour was deliberate; we wanted a complete departure from what we had before We kept the nautical theme, but gave it a complete modern, sexy feel Now when you walk in, the music, lighting and décor work together to create a relaxed cocktail-lounge atmosphere ”

He concluded: “It’s a place you want to sit in a space that feels alive, comfortable and stylish The transformation has exceeded our expectations, and it’s just the beginning of what’s to come for the Grand Hotel ”

The result is a glamorous,magazine-worthy transformation created by David Muirhead and Associates,a renowned interior design team whose portfolio includes five-star hotels, luxury guest houses and exclusive game lodges

City’s law enforcement volunteer expansion takes off

The City's safety and security directorate has been fine-tuning plans over the past few years to provide opportunities to volunteers in a non-uniform capacity and now they have a 52-person strong corps in play

The non-uniformed volunteers assist with administrative tasks and other support services, including IT support, community engagement and supporting crime prevention partnership programmes

As the name suggests, they do not wear the law enforcement uniform, or engage in field operations

The non-uniformed volunteers are supervised by the area law enforcement staff, who coordinate their duties, and like their uniformed counterparts, are expected to complete at least 16 hours of service a month

"This has been a long time coming and these civilian volunteers are critical to our operations The public see the officers on the road, doing patrols and roadblocks and pursuing suspects, but there is so much support work required to make it all happen, from ensuring that shifts are coordinated, vehicles are available and equipment is sourced and available for operational use

“As our law enforcement department operates on a 24-hour basis, these volunteers handle crucial administrative

needs and reduce the load on permanent staff," said Mayco member for safety and security, JP Smith The City’s uniformed law enforcement auxiliary service has been up and running since 2013, with more than 250 members currently The addition of the non-uniform members takes the overall complement of volunteers to more than 300 who, as a collective, completed 18 896 hours of service in the three months between July and September

CRITERIA

Those applying for civilian volunteer duties need to be 18 and have at least a Grade 10 qualification

THEYSHOULDALSO:

. Be of good standing and have no criminal record;

. not be the accused in an ongoing or pending criminal case that is of a serious nature;

. subject him or herself to an internal vetting process; . complete the prescribed entry level cognitive assessment successfully;

. comply with the City's prescribed drug test policy; and . comply with any other conditions as determined by the law enforcement HR branch

Motorcyclist dies in collision

There is a dire need for traffic enforcement, especially over weekends on Monte Vista Boulevard with the amount of accidents taking place

This is the opinion of Deon Oosthuizen, vice-chair of the Monte Vista Plattekloof Glenn Neighbourhood Watch, following a horrific accident on this stretch of road recently

One person died on Monte Vista Boulevard Bridge near to the N1 highway on Friday 17 October around 23:00 when a motorcycle and vehicle collided.

Oosthuizen says their members were at the scene on the night of the accident He said one of the neighbourhood watch's first-aid responders went to the scene as well and that patrollers on duty that night also went to investigate where they found one damaged vehicle in the middle of the intersection

with somebody trapped inside The person was identified as a passenger The motorcyclist was declared dead at the scene, while the person in the vehicle was transported to the nearest hospital. He said he had not received any updates on the passenger of the vehicle, but that he hopes the person makes a full recovery He says the driver of the car reportedly had no injuries

Sgt Wesley Twigg, spokesperson for the Western Cape police, confirmed Goodwood police had registered a culpable homicide case for investigation following a fatal crash on the bridge between a motorcycle and a motor vehicle, which claimed the life of a 40-year-old male

. Anyone with information about this incident can contact Crime Stop on 08600 1011.

SANDF concerned by use of combat dress by civilians

The South African National Defence Force (SANDF), on Wednesday 22 October, issued a statement that expressed concern about illegal wearing of the service's combat dress (camouflage), and especially for the purposes of committing crimes

It came after a video clip of criminals wearing such uniforms on one of their sprees had gone viral on social-media platforms

"The SANDF can confirm the video clip that has gone viral on social-media platforms depicting people believed to be thieving and terrorising communities wearing patented SANDF camouflage uniform artifacts are by no means authorised to wear these, and they certainly do not represent the interests of the defence force in any way, shape or form," the statement reads

The SANDF advised members of the public that the camouflage is a registered patent, for the sole use of authorised defence personnel (on legitimate defencerelated business)

It said wearing such gear when not personnel is a punishable offence, and anyone found doing so would be prosecuted

CREEPSTOP-VELDTOG HOU KRUISINGS OOP

THINKING OUT LOUD

Learning to embrace the speed of modern life

"I remembered reading that they were making sausages out of fish, and fish, no doubt, out of something different It gave me the feeling that I'd bitten into the modern world and discovered what it was really made of That's the way we're going nowadays Everything slick and streamlined, everything made out of something else "

This passage from George Orwell's novel Coming up for air has become a haunting metaphor to describe this glittery age we find ourselves racing to embrace and understand

First published in 1939 just before World War 2 and the birth of the atomic bomb, two terrifying phenomena that would alter life and our idea of safety and security forever And yet I find the novel still captures the unease and paranoia that technological and industrial innovation presents our society in 2025

A few years ago, we survived and emerged from the Covid-19 pandemic, where we witnessed hybrid work environments, government distrust, the rise of podcasts and dying theatres and record stores closing down

During this time the political world became more divided, with content creators sharing their ideologies towards their fanbases on social media and deepening the divide between liberals and conservatives to boost their followers

We saw YouTube become the new television and now we are bombarded with

WEAREBASKINGINTHE GOLDENAGEOFTECHNOLOGY ANDWITNESSINGTHE BREAKNECKSPEEDOF INFORMATIONANDEVER INCREASINGPOPULARITY OFSOCIALMEDIA.

unskippable ads and more spam calls than ever before

Cooped up in our homes while being forced to quarantine and social distance, these videos or "content" we consumed became an escape from a gloomy reality we were struggling to accept

You often hear people say they weren't the same person that entered the pandemic

All the while our cellphones, our apps, kept updating and improving

Now these devices are operating at unprecedented speeds, effortlessly processing oceans of data and completing tasks more efficiently

We are basking in the golden age of technology and witnessing the breakneck speed of information and ever increasing popularity of social media

Particularly, Instagram and the obsession of appearing cool and having an "aesthetic" and style that sets you apart from the rest and pretending to live as a celebrity

Like the word "fast food" means a quick, cheap and tasty meal, people can become irritated and impatient when this convenience doesn't fulfil its promise and they waited 20 minutes for their hamburger

And yet after they've exhausted their lungs, once they've received their meal they'll bite into the meat like some rabid hyaena, with little care to consider if the meat they re chewing is truly the "100% pure bred beef'' they paid for I think this is an apt way to describe why we should remember the importance of staying vigilant and distinguish between the truth and the lies being sold and packaged to us with colourful gift wrapping - KEANAN HARMSE

mental health declines as screen time skyrockets

As a practising psychologist I have had countless conversations with colleagues including psychologists, psychiatrists and general practitioners about the growing crisis in children’s mental health Again and again one issue rises to the top of every discussion: excessive screen time

Never in my life when I decided to study psychology did I imagine that one day I would speak about screen use 10 times a day Yet here we are It has become one of the most urgent and distressing topics in my consulting room

We now see children who spend more hours on screens than they do sleeping Some report being online for up to 19 hours a day These children often struggle to sleep, eat poorly and find real-world interaction confusing or overwhelming Their attention, emotions and sense of identity are shaped by a digital world that rewards comparison, instant gratification and performance

Many teenagers are now diagnosing themselves with conditions they have discovered on social media In a developmental phase defined by identity exploration it has become common to seek belonging through a diagnosis They are not being dramatic; they are trying to make sense of themselves in a world that feels overstimulated, disconnected and relentlessly demanding

Another serious concern is the sharp rise in autism spectrum diagnoses over the past few years Of course there are children who genuinely meet the diagnostic criteria and who need proper assessment and support But we are also seeing a pattern where children with extremely high screen exposure begin to show symptoms that resemble autistic traits: limited eye contact, flat affect, reduced reciprocal conversation, poor frustration tolerance and social withdrawal If you think about it, it makes sense

When a developing brain spends its formative years engaging mostly with screens rather than with people, social communication and emotional attunement will inevitably be affected This is not true autism but the functional outcome can look very similar It is heartbreaking to see how preventable some of this may be What is even more concerning is that screen overuse does not only create new problems but also worsens existing ones

Anxiety, depression, attention difficulties, irritability and social withdrawal all increase when a child’s nervous system is constantly flooded by stimulation that the human brain was never designed to handle This is not a normal activity for a developing mind It

is not natural for children to sit still for hours scrolling through content that hijacks their attention and emotions Our brains were built for movement touch conversation and human connection, not for the endless dopamine loop of screens Schools, without realising it, have become part of the problem Homework is posted on digital platforms Class notices are sent to learners phones Parents are directed to WhatsApp groups for updates What happened to the homework book? What happened to sending a note home or allowing a child to take responsibility by writing something down? Children should be allowed to disconnect when they leave school Home time should mean family time, a chance to rest, talk, play and simply be Yet the expectation to stay connected has blurred every boundary between school and home life

Of course, every parent also carries responsibility We cannot expect schools to carry this alone Families need to set boundaries for device use and decide when screens are put away so that rest, presence and connection can take priority again It is not easy, and many parents feel trapped in a system that demands digital participation but we still have a say in how we raise our children

I want to make a friendly but urgent request to all parents: start questioning this Talk to your schools Make appointments with the headmaster Ask whether homework and notices can once again be written in a book or sent directly to parents Ask if there are ways to reduce the expectation that children must be online after school hours We need to stand together and protect what truly matters

This is not about being anti-technology It is about restoring balance It is about helping our children develop the skills and the inner calm that screens have begun to erode: focus, empathy, curiosity, imagination, patience and rest

Our children’s mental health is paying the price for a system that has gone too far We, as adults, have the power to change it Let us not allow our children to one day look back and resent us for standing by while their childhoods disappeared behind a screen Let us South Africans be the change We do not have to wait in line for first-world countries to first make this drastic change We can be the ones who act now, who set the example, who put our children first

If we want a generation that is emotionally healthy curious and connected, we must give them back what technology has quietly taken away: their childhood CONCERNED PSYCHOLOGIST, Email

Take your cable ties with you

We often go for walks in the Sonstraal Heights area, and it is extremely concerning to see that when advertising boards are removed from poles or lamp posts, the cable ties or pieces of string are often left behind on the ground, or around the pole

During the past week, boards advertising the Dutch Reformed Church market of 8ste Laan, Boston, were removed from lamp poles, and the cable ties were left on the ground

Is it too much effort to remove the cable ties as well, rather than leaving them for someone else to pick up?

When a leash fails, everyone pays

The letter "Alle honde hoort aan leibande" of 22 October refers

My 10-month-old dog, Audie, a Whippet/Greyhound mix, is a friendly pet who plays well with others

However, a few months ago, she and I were involved in a distressing incident when we were attacked by an aggressive Border Collie

The attacking dog was ostensibly "leashed", but the owner was using a long nylon strap that slipped from her grasp the moment the dog lunged This failure of equipment and control left me struggling to protect both myself and my dog

The incident resulted in a physical fracas where I had to take protective action, and the other dog's owner was injured in the attempt to regain control

Since this event, I have had to change my walking routes and carry protective items to ensure our safety This is an unacceptable situation for law-abiding dog owners simply trying to enjoy a walk

There is no doubt that all dogs ought to be leashed in public places, even trained dogs, and I support any such initiative KPS CUTHBERT, Edgemead

NewID rulesfor motorists from1Nov

Motorists will be required to present certified copies of identification documents when visiting City motor vehicle licensing offices from 1 November, following the implementation of new national regulations

The City has been directed to enforce these requirements under the National Road Traffic Act of 1996, though officials are seeking further clarification on certain aspects of the new rules

Drivers renewing their licences will be exempt from this requirement if they have received an SMS notification from either the City or the Road Traffic Management Corporation These renewals may proceed under existing procedures

ACCEPTABLEDOCUMENTATION

The following certified identification documents will be accepted:

. South African ID book or card; . Foreign identification documents; or . Traffic Register Number (TRN) certificate

The City is awaiting guidance from authorities on the acceptance of passports and driving licences

Documents must be certified as true copies by Commissioners of Oaths, notaries or other authorised officials

Certification must comply with the Justices of the Peace and Commissioners of Oaths Act The certification must be dated within three months of submission and must contain the official stamp and signature of the certifying officer

Residents planning to visit City motor vehicle licensing offices after 1 November should ensure their documentation meets the new requirements beforehand This will help avoid delays and the inconvenience of having to return with properly certified documents

City on high alert this Guy Fawkes

Incident reports in recent years suggest a downturn in the illegal discharge of fireworks and marauding mobs usually associated with Guy Fawkes, but the Safety and Security Directorate will be on high alert again this year to respond to public complaints

The City’s Public Emergency Communication Centre (PECC) has recorded decreases in complaints related to the illegal sale and discharge of fireworks In 2024 the Fire and Rescue Service also did not respond to any incidents that were specifically linked to Guy Fawkes

"We’ve seen a marked downturn in the past two years of incidents reported to the City on Guy Fawkes Day," said Mayco member for safety and security JP Smith "We understand that there might well have been more incidents and that these were not reported, but we are encouraged nonetheless by the apparent decline ” In the first 20 days of October this year, the PECC recorded 45 incidents of the illegal discharge of fireworks, with more than half occurring over just four days, from the 17 October Mitchell's Plain and Bonteheuwel had the highest number of reports, with sporadic complaints in areas such as Heideveld, Macassar Village, Manenberg, Ocean View, Cravenby and Grassy Park

"The discharge of fireworks is allowed only with a permit," Smith said "So if you see anyone selling fireworks on the roadside or at corner shops, and you’re not sure they have a permit for it, please do report it immediately " . The PECC's number is 021 480 7700

Porter’s relationship with South African fans runs deep

Film screening explores shared SA histories

Three short films interrogating South Africa’s colonial past and legacy of slavery will be screened on Friday 31 October at the Avalon Auditorium, Homecoming Centre, Cape Town. The Kingdom of the Netherlands in South Africa, in partnership with the District Six Museum, will host a special screening of three short films that explore South Africa’s colonial history through the lens of art, memory, and cultural resistance The screening will take place at the Avalon Auditorium, Homecoming Centre, Cape Town, from 18:00 to 20:15. Entry is free, but seating is limited and booking is essential.

The evening forms part of the Netherlands’ #cocreateIDENTITY programme, which supports South African cultural initiatives and Dutch-South African collaborations that address identity, heritage, and transformation.

FILMS

Each film offers a unique perspective on the country s layered past and its echoes in the present: . Whispers and Shouts (18 mins), directed by Elise Fernandez, documents the "CAPE X NL: Whispers and Shouts" exhibition at the Camissa Museum. This collaborative project between Dutch and South African partners engages with the legacy of

Dutch slavery in the Cape through archival material, art, and public memory The film captures the exhibition’s resonance with local audiences and its transformation into a permanent installation at the Castle of Good Hope

. Wat was hie? (30 mins) a site-specific film directed and choreographed by Luke de Kock, retraces the erasure and resistance of indigenous San and Khoi peoples. Through embodied performance and poetic reflection, the film reclaims historical spaces impacted by slavery and colonial rule, posing the haunting question: What was here?

. Fugitives (18 mins) directed by Philip du Plessis, is a documentary produced by the Biography of an Uncharted People project at Stellenbosch University Using forensic artistry and archival records, the film reconstructs the likenesses of enslaved individuals who escaped before the abolition of slavery in 1838 The project gives visual identity to lives once rendered invisible by the historical record.

A post-screening Q&A session with the filmmakers and project collaborators will offer audiences an opportunity to engage with the creative and historical processes behind the works. Entrance is free but booking is essential.
