The community of Silversands held a prayer walk on Saturday to pray about the escalating crime situation in the area

Recently a spike in robberies, breakins and murders have sparked the community into action with the election of street representatives to monitor and act on crime It is the group of these representatives that is organising the prayer walk

Chanell van Heerden, spokesperson for the group, says the situation in Silversands is growing worse by the day

"New information has come to light these past few days that gangsters from other areas are coming to hide guns and sell it in the area

“We have breakins mostly done by the same people each week and nothing is being done They get arrested and released within hours, just to do it again

“The burnt out crèche called Stepping Stones seems to be a hideout as well and we are having trouble finding the owners to clear up that space It is just a breeding place for crime

“Even school children hide out there If the owners can contact us we will appreciate it," says Van Heerden

In parallel, the City is upgrading sidewalks and pedestrian crossings citywide to support children, the elderly, cyclists, and persons using mobility aids

International visitors to Cape Town are set to have a much smoother arrival, thanks to a near-doubling of capacity in Cape Town International Airport's (CTIA) Border Management Authority (BMA)

In response to the devastating fire that swept through Goliath Estate in Kraaifontein earlier this month, non-governmental organisation Charitas partnered with the Department of Home Affairs to bring much-needed relief to affected residents
