Lyle Thomas (28) of Bonteheuwel died when a car crashed into the accident scene he was assisting in the early hours of Sunday morning. Capt FC van Wyk, of the police’s provincial media centre said police were investigating the scene of a fatal hit-and-run on Jakes Gerwel drive, when Thomas, an off-duty LEAP officer, stopped to assist. “The police vehicle was parked on the side of the road with flashing blue lights,” Van Wyk said. “An off-duty law enforcement officer stopped on the left side of the road with his VW Polo to assist the police members with the accident. A silver grey Toyota Fortuner came at a very high speed and drove into the back of the police vehicle which then overturned.” Van Wyk said the officer was killed when the Fortuner

“rammed into a nearby tree and came to a complete stop”. “The 37-year-old driver of the Toyota Fortuner was arrested and taken to the shadow centre for a blood alcohol test, and afterwards detained at Nyanga police station on a charge of culpable homicide. He will appear in court once charged,” he said. A secondary case of culpable homicide is also under investigation for the man who had been killed in the first hitand-run, though his identity and the identity of the driver who knocked him down are both unknown. He lived not for himself, but for the safety, dignity, and well-being of others. Even while off duty, his instinct was to help, to protect, and to serve,” McKenzie said. “This loss is devastating. Lyle was young, driven, and deeply committed to his community,” he said. The MEC for police oversight, Anroux Marais, also expressed “profound sorrow”. “This is a devastating loss of a young life dedicated to service. Officer Thomas was not only a LEAP officer but a young man whose life was defined by commitment, courage, and selflessness. Missing Delft girl found unharmed

n a wonderful twist of fate a 9-yearold girl from Delft that went missing on Monday 17 November returned home unharmed. Akahlulwa Qwili went missing and her family, the police and the community were looking all over for her. Everyone feared the worst. On Wednesday her father, George Thompson, received the great news that his daughter was alive and well. But where was she for the better part of three weeks? According to Candice van der Rheeder, Founder of the Western Cape Missing Persons Unit, Akahlulwa was found with a family in Crossroads. “She was found walking along the road late at night and was taken good care of. The woman who she stayed with realised she was missing and alerted the dad,” says

We were praying and doing everything in our power to find her and our prayers were answered. There are still some children missing, but we praise God for finding Akahlulwa,” says Van der Rheede. No festive cheer for suspected thieves

Metro police officers arrested four suspects in Eerste River yesterday for the possession of stolen goods to the value of half a million rand. Officers received information of a Toyota Hino truck that was hijacked in Manenberg. The suspects then apparently headed to Khayelitsha where the stock was transferred to a yellow Hino truck and taken to Eerste River to be sold. According to superintendent Ruth

Solomons, spokesperson for the metro police, at around 12:30, officers spotted the truck at a shop in Eerste River, where the goods were being offloaded. “The five suspects, aged between 28 and 41 years, were arrested and detained at the Kleinvlei Police Station. Officers confiscated the truck and six cellphones for further investigation. The goods were returned to the rightful owner,” says Solomons.

Young man caught with ﬁrearm On Thursday (11 November), around 01:30, Ravensmead Crime Prevention Unit officers were conducting stop-and-searches in Fabriek Street, Eureka Estate. During the search a ﬁrearm was found in possession of a young man with about 14 9 mm live rounds

of ammunition, said police spokesperson Capt Odwa Makupula. “A 23-year-old suspect was arrested and a case opened, CAS 137/12/2025, for illegal possession of a ﬁrearm and ammunition. He will appear in the Goodwood Magistrates' Court, once charged.”

Court rules on taxi interdict

he Western Cape Mobility Department welcomed the Western Cape High Court’s decision, on 10 December, in a matter between the Provincial Minister for Mobility and the Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (Cata) and others. The ruling made permanent an earlier interim order aimed at curbing violence, intimidation and unlawful operations within the minibus taxi industry. Western Cape Mobility Minister Isaac Sileku approached the court earlier this year following ongoing conflict between rival associations Cata and Cape Organisation for the Democratic Taxi Association (Codeta), particularly over the contested M18 route between Mfuleni and Somerset West. Despite attempts to mediate violence escalated from June 2025 onwards, leading to several fatalities and continued threats to public safety. A temporary interdict was granted in August 2025, but violent incidents persisted, including as recently as October. This decision sends a clear message, that the rule of law must prevail and the safety of commuters must come first. Taxi associations are required to comply with

Hundreds of houses handed over in Bonteheuwel The City’s Human Settlements Directorate handed over 234 homes at the Bonteheuwel Infill housing project in recent weeks. “This is a long-anticipated moment for many residents,” said Mayco member for Human Settlements Carl Pophaim, who called the handover “a significant milestone” and “one of the City’s most meaningful and community-centred” projects. “We are honoured to assist so many families with a housing”, he said. “The R140 million project provides Breaking New Ground (BNG) homes to families, and several homes are designed to accommodate elderly residents and people with disabilities. “To date, all 273 housing opportunities are completed, with 270 opportunities handed over to beneficiaries. The Bonteheuwel Infill project is just one of several housing projects currently underway across the metro, and we

Grant Twigg, Mayco member for Urban Waste Management, said this signalled the City’s commitment to lead, by example, the shift to more sustainable and responsible consumption. “This recommendation aligns closely with the City’s broader waste-reduction and environmental goals. If we expect households, businesses and communities to adopt more sustainable practices then we must take the lead within our internal

Our continued use of certain single-use materials in City operations highlights the scale of the challenge. “Once these materials are disposed of, they contribute to long-lasting waste that remains in the environment for decades. By exploring compostable or recyclable alternatives the City can significantly reduce its own waste footprint while setting a powerful example for residents and businesses.” He said the City is poised to phase items such as bottled water, certain stationery, kitchen utensils, operational consumables and plastic waste bags out, and explore compostable or recyclable alternatives where appropriate. “This will be a carefully considered

process involving multiple directorates, attention given to practicality, cost implications and operational requirements. “As a start a joint portfolio committee (PC) task team, including all relevant PCs, will be established to look at ways to further reduce plastic and other relevant single-use materials used within the City departments. “This is not an overnight shift, but a responsible long-term direction for the City. The noting of this recommendation by Mayco is a positive step towards reducing our environmental footprint and strengthening the credibility of our call for a cleaner, more sustainable Cape Town for all,” Twigg said.

ape Town Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) has welcomed Prof Brian Figaji as its new Chancellor, with the academic leader pledging to break traditional patterns of distant leadership and champion ethical education in South Africa’s challenging socio-political climate. Figaji, who served as the Vice-Chancellor of the former Peninsula Technikon (Pentech) until 2004, returns as the third Chancellor of CPUT. He served as Pentech’s Vice-Chancellor for a decade, guiding the institution before its merger with Cape Technikon (Cape Tech) into CPUT in 2005 and is a qualified engineer. He studied at the University of the Western Cape, University of Cape Town, Unisa, and Harvard. On Wednesday 10 December, during a media briefing before his robing ceremony, Figaji outlined a distinctly hands-on approach to the ceremonial role, emphasising his commitment to being actively present in the university community.

Ensuring students receive the recognition they deserve at graduation ceremonies. “I suppose the most important role is going to be that I will be present at graduation, because I think we owe it to our students that the Chancellor is present at graduation,” Figaji stated. “There are too many Chancellors that you see once and never again.” Figaji’s vision extends far beyond ceremonial duties. He plans to position CPUT as a crucial battleground in South Africa’s fight against corruption and unethical leadership. “As an institution, we are the grounds, we’re the preparatory grounds for the future leaders of this country. We’ve got to do something intentional about that. We cannot hope that something will happen.” Figaji acknowledges some challenges facing South African higher education institutions in moulding leaders who will uphold ethical standards in a climate where corruption has become endemic. ape Town-based clothing small businesses are ending 2025 on a high note through their participation in Cape Acceler8, a 12-month capacity-building journey designed to strengthen and grow emerging manufacturers across the metro. Delivered by the Cape Clothing and Textile Cluster (CCTC), the programme is made possible through contributions from both public and private partners, including support from the City of Cape Town as a catalytic funder to the CCTC. Forty small businesses form part of the inaugural cohort. Participants receive expert workshops on business fundamentals such as cost engineering, financial management, customer negotiations and competitor market analysis, alongside NQFaccredited technical training to strengthen operational capability. “Clothing, textile, footwear and leather (CTFL) manufacturing is a legacy industry in Cape Town,” said Mayco member for Economic Growth James Vos, “which is why it is encouraging that almost half the SMMEs in Acceler8 are from the Cape Flats. Similarly, 80% of the people employed in CTFL are women, and more than 70% of the programme’s trainees are women-led. Collectively, these businesses employ more than 600 people. Officers trained to spot trafficking

he Western Cape has taken a significant step forward in the fight against human trafficking. Over 300 traffic law enforcement officers were given specialised training to identify and address trafficking. Since November, 334 traffic officers have been trained through a collaborative initiative between the Western Cape Department of Social Development (DSD), the Western Cape Mobility Department, and anti-trafficking organisation A21 South Africa. “This training is crucial because human trafficking is often a hidden crime that exploits our most vulnerable community members,” said Western Cape Minister of Social Development Jaco Londt. “By equipping our traffic officers with these specialised skills, we’re creating an additional layer of protection for potential victims.” The training has already shown promising results. In one case, a traffic officer successfully intervened in a highrisk situation involving an undocumented minor travelling with an older man, potentially preventing a trafficking incident. Western Cape Minister of Mobility Isaac Sileku emphasised the strategic importance of training traffic officers: “Our officers are uniquely positioned to spot suspicious activity on our roads. Many victims don’t even realise they’re being exploited until it’s too late.” The training particularly focuses on protecting high-risk groups, including undocumented individuals and young people, especially girls. These populations are often targeted through online recruitment and job scams that appear legitimate on the surface.

“Transportation routes, including our roads, are frequently used by traffickers to move victims,” explained Modrau. “Having trained traffic officers who can recognise suspicious situations and respond appropriately is invaluable.” The initiative represents a coordinated effort involving multiple agencies working together to combat trafficking. Partners include the South African Police Service (SAPS), the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), and the South African Human Rights Commission. This collaboration ensures that when trafficking cases are identified, there’s a clear pathway for investigation, victim support, and successful prosecution.

Plans are already underway for a more comprehensive rollout of the training programme in 2026, with the aim of reaching even more law enforcement officers across the Western Cape. “The success of this pilot programme demonstrates the value of investing in specialised training for our front-line officers,” said Minister Londt. “We’re committed to expanding this initiative to strengthen our province’s defence against human trafficking.” The departments are also focusing on raising community awareness about the dangers and signs of human trafficking. High Court judgement challenges City’s rates ‘blank cheque’ The Western Cape High Court has reserved judgement in a landmark legal challenge that could transform municipal financing nationwide. The South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA) and Afriforum squared off against the City of Cape Town over three days last week in a hearing centred on whether municipalities have the constitutional authority to impose fixed charges based on property values — a practice SAPOA argues amounts to an unconstitutional “blank cheque” for local government spending. The matter was heard by a full bench of three senior judges — Judge President Nolwazi Mabindla-Boqwana, as well as presiding judges Andre le Grange and Katharine Savage.

The legal clash centres on SAPOA and AfriForum's bid to have three contentious budget tariffs covering cleaning, fixed water charges, and fixed sanitation — as introduced in the City's 2025-'26 Budget — struck down as unconstitutional. While the City insists these are legitimate service charges rather than rates, it has raised the stakes considerably with a bold counter-application. Should the court rule against the municipality, Cape Town wants Section 75A of the Systems Act itself declared invalid, arguing that such a decision would cripple its constitutional mandate to deliver municipal services. “In essence, SAPOA argued that the City does not have the power, in terms of the Constitution and the applicable legislation,

to raise fixed charges based on property value bands,” comments SAPOA CEO, Neil Gopal. The Good Party, who sought leave to intervene, the Cape Town Collective Ratepayers’ Association, and SA First Forum, both of whom were admitted as friends of the court, all support SAPOA’s views. According to Gopal, the Court specifically asked the City of Cape Town’s counsel whether there is any legislative requirement that the City, or any other municipality for that matter, is required to “tighten its belt”. “The City was unable to point out any such requirement, and merely argued that salaries, its biggest expense, are set at a national level. SAPOA and its members

have no objection to the principle of subsidisation, or to pay its fair share of municipal service costs. The problem arises, however, if a municipality is given unbridled power and a blank cheque to do as it pleases. Municipalities across the country, including the City of Cape Town and others that regularly receive clean audits, must also be held accountable on the way taxpayers’ money is spent,” says Gopal. “The Court reserved judgment, but no indication has been given as to when it may be expected. The Court did point out, however, that this is a complex matter, that requires careful adjudication, and that it is mindful of the effect that this judgment may have on other municipalities throughout the country.”

Rail services, safety in Western Cape boosted for December holidays Train commuters and holidaymakers across the Western Cape can beneﬁt from extended rail services this festive season, as Prasa announced full-day Sunday operations for the ﬁrst time during the holiday period. According to a statement released by the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) Western Cape, the agency

is running an enhanced Summer Festive train service as from Monday 15 December to Sunday 11 January, to accommodate increased travel demand during one of the busiest times of the year. The expanded service includes full-day operations on all Sundays throughout the festive period: 21 and 28 December this year and 4 and 11 January 2026.

Trains will also run extended services on public holidays, including New Year’s Day (Thursday 1 January). The move represents a signiﬁcant departure from Prasa’s usual limited Sunday services. It is designed to cater for beachgoers, families visiting relatives, and regular commuters during the holiday season. Prasa stated that to manage the

expected increase in passenger numbers, the agency has deployed additional security personnel across all stations and trains. Visible security teams will be stationed throughout the rail network to ensure passenger safety. The festive service will showcase Prasa’s modern “People’s Trains”, which have replaced the old yellow trains.

These newer trains feature on-board CCTV cameras, improved lighting, open interleading coaches, and advanced braking systems. Province to safeguard schools during holidays The province plans to safeguard schools during the holidays. Peter Johnson, DA spokesperson for education, said on Thursday (11 December) that the party welcomed the provincial Education Department’s allocation of over R5,2 million for this purpose. He said more than 840 incidents of crime, vandalism and theft were reported at schools across the province during the first three terms of 2025, which resulted in a repair bill exceeding R5,1 million. He said that while these figures highlighted that criminals targeted schools, with Mitchells Plain, Paarl, Manenberg, Bonteheuwel and Khayelitsha among the most affected areas, they also underscored the critical role of the police in reducing crime in these communities. Gershwin spectacular set for Maynardville Open-Air Festival Cape Town Opera will transport audiences back to the golden age of American music when it presents Gershwin in the Park, a one-night-only concert celebration at the Maynardville Open-Air Festival on Sunday 15 February 2026. Baghel returns to Artscape Pratibha Singh Baghel, who performed to a sold-out audience during her 2023 Symphony of Love concert with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, returns for a one-night-only performance called Encore at Artscape on Saturday 31 January at 20:30. The concert, produced by Cape Town-based Inner Circle Entertainment, will feature a different format from her previous symphony performance – an acoustic evening showcasing Bollywood classics, ghazals, and contemporary hits. Pratibha will be accompanied by a 10-member ensemble of Indian musicians, performing with traditional instruments including tabla, esraj, harmonium, and bansuri, alongside piano and acoustic guitar. Airport plan enters design phase

ape Winelands Airport announced last week that it has entered into an agreement with WBHO as the contractor for the technical development and construction of the airport as part of the airport’s multibillion-rand expansion programme. “With the contractor now formally on board, the project advances into a crucial new phase — detailed technical development and planning. These appointments will enable the team to begin developing the specific designs and engineering frameworks required to move the project toward construction readiness. This process will also provide clearer insights into overall timelines and costs,” explained Deon Cloete, managing director of Cape Winelands Airport, in a joint media release with WBHO last Tuesday. WBHO, the technical development partner for Cape Winelands Airport, is a heavyweight in South Africa’s construction sector and one of the country’s largest publicly listed firms, with deep expertise in infrastructure, civil engineering, roads and earthworks. Best known for delivering major infrastructure projects and technically demanding projects, WBHO has built everything from stadiums and dams to airports and highways, says Deidre Davids, spokesperson for Cape Winelands Airport, in the media release. MOST SIGNIFICANT AVIATION INVESTMENT The Cape Winelands Airport expansion, estimated to cost approximately R8 billion, is one of South Africa’s most significant aviation infrastructure investments. It includes the construction of a new boutique terminal, extended and realigned runway infrastructure, upgraded airside systems, enhanced cargo and logistics

The airport’s location in the Cape Winelands provides a rare opportunity to design an airport experience that reflects the character and beauty of the Winelands. Cape Winelands Airport aims to establish a world-class aviation and logistics hub that supports economic growth, attracts new investment and enhances regional connectivity, according to the media release. “With WBHO’s proven track record

in delivering complex infrastructure projects, the project is positioned to achieve excellence in execution. The teams’ combined expertise strengthens the airport’s commitment to building an efficient, future-ready and environmentally responsible aviation facility,” Cloete adds. STRATEGIC DEVELOPMENT PARTNER This announcement follows the recent confirmation of Growthpoint Properties as a strategic development partner for Cape Winelands Airport, focusing on long-term property and asset management

responsibilities across the 450 ha aviation precinct’s logistics, commercial and hospitality components. As the project enters its detailed technical development phase, the newly appointed contracting partner will work closely with the Cape Winelands Airport team. This next stage will bring greater clarity on what must be done to achieve construction readiness and the delivery of a future-focused aviation precinct for the province. The event took place from Saturday 13 September to Sunday 21 September. Gardeo Isaacs says he still can't believe it. "It is still sinking in, and I must get used to a medal," he says in his family home still recovering from jet lag. He recently won a bronze medal at the Tokyo World Championship Athletics 2025 as part of the South African men's 4x400m relay team. The team secured the bronze medal with a time of 2:57.83 seconds, narrowly missing silver. Isaacs says the last time SA won a medal was in 2017. So, to him this means something major for the country, and it also means they are somehow headed in the right direction. He says for the next generation this was an inspiration. Isaacs says he's not doing this for himself but for his family and also the country, as this was

always a dream for him to represent his country. "To get that first medal after eight years still gives me goosebumps." Isaacs' athletic career started back in high school. He first started out to play soccer but laugh when he says he did not like the aspect where he had to work hard and the next person was just feeding from someone else. Also, the fact that one person was not accountable for the success of the team. When he went to high school, he did athletics. First without training before he realised he can do so much better with the training. The rest is history. Isaacs mentions he trains five days a week, three gym sessions. A typical training day for him ranges from two hours to two and a half hours. He advises those who would like to follow in his footsteps or dream of being any successful

But even then, he had something special. “He honestly seemed to have such light in his eyes,” recalls Josh Slade, who recently adopted him with his wife, Christie. The ongoing failures are widely attributed to severe corrosion from sulphuric acid and the age of the infrastructure. “City teams were deployed within minutes to cordon off the affected area, implement traffic-safety measures and begin assessing the extent of the damage,” said Zahid Badroodien, Mayco member for Water and Sanitation. “We are finalising an emergency-repair plan and closely monitoring the site to mitigate any further risks, especially to the nearby Milnerton Lagoon, which remains a key environmental priority.” TygerBurger reported on the issue since August 2023 of the collapses occurring successively and at multiple points in the 50-year-old 900 mm fibre cement bulk sewer pipeline, which runs underground at a depth of 5 metres. The road was cordoned off for months, with motorists having to use alternative routes.

LIEFDE, DIE SIMBOLIEK WAT EK VANDAG AAN KERSBOME HEG. Buiten die Christelike en feestelike simboliek dink ek tog die Kersboom het in elke huis sy eie betekenis en tradisie. Vir baie is dit net nog 'n "feesmal" versiering. Sommige van ons gebruik dit as 'n verskoning om die kleinspan op Oukersaand vroeg in die bed te kry - want Kersvader gaan nie geskenke onder die boom los terwyl jy wakker is nie. Sommige, hoewel hulle Kersfees en Jesus se geboorte vier, slaan glad nie 'n Kersboom op nie, juis oor sy heidense wortels. Dit neem my terug na my kinderdae waar in die vroeë jare ons ook nie 'n Kersboom onder ons dak gehad het nie. Ons het op Kersoggend wakker geword met ons ouers wat al singend in die gang afkom. My pa met 'n lemoensak oor sy skouer waarin my en my broer se geskenke was. Hulle het dan op die voetenend van ons beddens gesit en gesels oor die ware betekenis van Kersfees terwyl ons ons nie-uitspattige Kersgeskenke oopgemaak het. Latere jare, toe een huishouding twee geword het, was daar in my ma se huis 'n Kersboom, maar nie by my pa nie. Dit was tot ek en broer een jaar so knaend geraak het dat hy 'n paar bougainvilleatakke gaan afknip en aan 'n boomstok vasgemaak het. Tot vandag toe is dit my gunsteling Kersboom ooit. Nie omdat hy teen sy waardes ingegee het op 'n tradisie waarin hy nie glo nie, maar oor die liefde waarmee dit gedoen is. Liefde, die simboliek wat ek vandag aan Kersbome heg. Dit het ook in my 'n voorliefde gekweek vir unieke Kersbome. Ek skep veel eerder my eie met klatergoud, viersierings en 'n paar stokke as wat ek 'n plastiekboom ten duurste in die winkels gaan koop. Maar maak nie saak watse Kersboom vanjaar in ons voorkamer opgeslaan gaan word nie, dit word met liefde gedoen. - CECILIA HUME

In die hartjie van die middestad troon daar vanjaar 'n Kersboom uit bo Kaapstad. Sover vasgestel kan word is dié skitterende 17m-lange "Kersboom van Hoop" op die dak van die Sky Hotel die hoogste van sy soort in Afrika. Dit dien boonop 'n goeie doel. Tesame met 'n geldinsamelingsdoel, waarmee vier plaaslike organisies ondersteun word, is dit ook 'n baken van eenheid, vrygewigheid, opheffing en, soos sy naam verklap, hoop. So na aan die moderne betekenis van die Kersboom - 'n simbool van lewe, hoop en die gees van Kersfees. Dit raak nogal interessant wanneer jy Google inspan en begin soek na die simboliek en ontstaan van die Kersboom. Dit het vroeë heidense wortels met antieke Egiptenare, Romeine, Druïde en Vikings wat tydens die wintersonstilstand immergroen takke gebruik om lewe en wedergeboorte gedurende die donkerste winterdae te simboliseer en die son se terugkeer te vier. Die meer moderne Kersboom se Christelike wortels lê in Duitsland waar families dennebome op 24 Desember, die feesdag van Adam en Eva, met appels en wafels versier het. Sedert die 16de eeu word hierdie tradisie in die huise ingebring en later met kerse versier - 'n tradisie wat aan Martin Luther toegeken word - om sterre na te boots wat deur takke skyn, wat Jesus se koms na die aarde simboliseer. Hierdie tradisie het in die 1800's na Engeland versprei vanwaar dit later na die res van die wêreld uitgebrei het. Vroeë versierings het vrugte, koekies, springmieliekranse en kerse ingesluit, voor vandag se kenmerkende glasballe en elektriese liggies hul verskyning gemaak het.

nskrywings vir 2026 se Weg-stapfees is nou oop. Stappers kan begin strek vir die volgende Weg-stapfees in samewerking met Salomon en Cape Union Mart. Die fees word van 20 tot 22 Februarie 2026 by Meerendal buite Durbanville aangebied. Weg-stapfees is ’n lekker bederf vir stappers. Dis ’n naweek waar jy jou fiksheid vir die Vis-, die Otter- of die Amatolaroete in die veld kan toets en sommer lekker kan gesels met ander mense wat versot is op stap. Dit werk soos ’n pretloop, maar jy stap. Die eerste twee Weg-stapfeeste in 2024 en vanjaar was albei baie suksesvol en is deur duisende stappers bygewoon. Inskrywings vir die Kaapse Weg-stapfees is nou oop.

ASTANDE BY DIE STAPFEES Vrydag 20 Februarie: ’n 6 km-stap om 18:00 (geskik vir die hele gesin). Saterdag 21 Februarie: Kies of jy aan die 6 km-, 12 km- of 21 km-stap wil deelneem. Die verskillende pret-stappe spring op verskillende tye weg, maar almal is vroegoggend. Sondag 16 Februarie: 10 km-stap om 07:00. Die feesterrein is weer op die grasperk langs die proelokaal, en vanjaar sal daar koffie- en kosstalletjies wees. Daar word ook bier verkoop. By die ekspo-ruimte gaan jy verlei word deur die borge, Salomon en Cape Union Mart, se nuutste toerusting. Solal bederf die stappers op ’n heerlike manier.

STAPPERS KAN TUSSEN VERSKEIE STAPROETES EN AFSTANDE KIES Wat die roetes betref is ’n paar veranderings gemaak. Die kort afstande, sowel as die Sondagroete, bly dieselfde. Op die Saterdag sal die 12 km-stappers in 2026 ’n hele nuwe roete stap, en die 25 kmroete word ingekort tot 21 km. Slegs die langste afstand, die 21 km, sal in 2026 oor Dorstberg loop. As jy nie in die omgewing woon nie, kan jy een van die kamers in die boetiekhotel op Meerendal bespreek of in een van die gastehuise in Durbanville bly. Bespreek plek in die hotel op Meerendal by dieselfde skakel waar jy inskryf. Maar jy moet spring, daar is net ’n handvol kamers beskikbaar.

VOORBEREIDING Die staptogte is alles op gruis- en grondpaaie – nooit teer nie. Die 21 kmroete loop oor Dorstberg (’n stywe bult op los klippe) en gewone tekkies gaan nie die mas opkom nie. Veral die 21 km-roete is ’n stewige stappie en ons raai deelnemers aan om goed voor te berei. Weg verkoop ’n oefenprogram, Weg-stapfiks, wat jou sal help om gewig te verloor en fiks te word. Kom nou!
