Western Cape Premier Alan Winde and the Provincial Minister of Police Oversight andCommunity Safety Anroux Marais have welcomed the appointment of Lt-Gen Sizakhele Dyantyi as the new provincialPolice Commissioner.

Vergadering oor pensioenfonds
"Die kernbeginselisdat pensioenfondse in die uitsluitlike belang van hul lede bestuur behoort te word —sonder politieke inmenging," het Zirk Gous, nasionale voorsitter van die Association for theMonitoring andAdvocacy of Government Pensions (AMAGP),gesê. Hy het so gesê op Donderdag 23 Julie op 'n vergaderingvan staatsdienspensioenarisse en -werknemers in die Wes-Kaap —die eerste van die AMAGP Wes-Kaap.
Dieeerste vergadering het alle verwagtinge oortref, sê Albin Bowler, wat op die vergadering verkies is as voorsitter van die provinsiale uitvoerende komitee vanAMAGPWes-Kaap.
REGSTREEKSUITGESAAI
Altesame 179 mensehet die vergadering by die NG kerk Stellenberg in Bellville bygewoon.Nog 132deelnemers het aanlyn ingeskakel by die vergadering, wat regstreeksuitgesaai is.
Dievergaderingisgehouom staatsdienswerknemers en -pensioenarisse in te lig oor die huidige stand van die Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF) en die belangrikheid van onafhanklike toesig oor die fonds.
Dieeregastewas Adamus Stemmet, ere-president en eerste voorsitter van AMAGP, wat die organisasie se oorspronklike visie gevestig het, en Rob Moody, nasionalevoorsitter van die pensioenaris-tak van die VSA.
Nog tweeledevan AMAGP se nasionale uitvoerende komitee het die vergadering
bygewoon. Hulle is Strini Govender, verantwoordelik vir massamobilisering, en Ben Kellerman, verantwoordelikvir parlementêre skakeling.
UITDAGINGS
Tydens sy aanbieding het Gousdie uitdagings waarmee die GEPF tanste kampe het, uiteengesit. Hy het beklemtoon dat verantwoordbare bestuur, groter aanspreeklikheid en doeltreffende toesig die potensiaal het om beter opbrengste vir lede te verseker. Hy het verder bevestig dat die GEPF nie op die rand van bankrotskap staan nie. Daar is egter aangevoer dat verbeterde bestuur en sterker oorsig daartoe kan bydra dat toekomstige pensioenverhogings gunstiger as bloot inflasiegekoppelde aanpassings kan wees 'n Belangrikehoogtepunt van die vergadering was die stigting van 'n Wes-Kaapseprovinsiale struktuur van AMAGP. Ses lede het ingestem om die provinsiale organiseringskomitee te vormensal voortaan die belange van staatsdienswerknemers en –pensioenarisse in die Wes-Kaap verteenwoordig.

The Tygerberg Photographic Society (TPS) recentlycombinedanexhibition of members' favourite images with the announcement of the winners of acompetition held for aspirant photographers from high schools
The event was held in the hall of the NG Kerk in Panorama on Saturday 4July with about 70 member prints on display. All the entries from the students were displayed on acontinuous video display on alarge screen. Various hot soupsand sherry/fruit juice, as well asbread rolls, wereavailable for guests to enjoy.
The winning studentsinthe three categories –Open Colour,Open Monochrome and Photojournalism/Sport –were announced during the event. The winner from each categoryreceived free membershiptothe Societyand to the Photographic Society of South Africa, with full membership privileges. Aspecial certificatewas awarded to the winner whose image was judged to be best overall.

Wanneer jy hier lees, is onsop die vooraandvan een van die grootste rugbygebeurtenisse in die geskiedenis vandie land. Dalk selfs diewêreld.
Die All Blacks uit Nieu-Seeland ishierop huleerstevolwaardige toer in 30 jaar. Die toer staan bekend as The Greatest Rivalry, want nie net is die Springbokke en dieAll Blacks mekaarsegrootste teenstanders nie, maar hulle is ook al jarelank die leiers in rugby.
Dertig jaar gelede het die All Blacks Suid-Afrika toe gekom en die eerste keer in die geskiedenis‘nreeks hier gewen. Vanjaar gaan hulle weer probeer indie viertoetse —drie in Suid-Afrika en een in Amerika.
Maar dis nie sodanig oor dierugby wat ek wil praat nie, maar wel oordie bekgevegtetussen ondersteuners wat reeds op sosiale media woed. Die gevegte woed nie tussen regte Nieu-Seelandersen Suid-Afrikaners, maar wel tussen Bokondersteuners en Suid-Afrikaners watdie AllBlacks ondersteun.
Hierdie is nie ‘n nuwe situasie nie, want histories het bruin en swart mense die All Blacks ondersteun om hul weersin in apartheid te wys. Onder daardie verwerplikebestel kon slegs wit spelers vir die Bokke speel en daarom was die situasie algemeen aanvaarbaar.Met die nuwe bestel kon bruin en swart spelers teoretiesvir die Bokke speel,maarbaie mense in rugby het ditsomoeilik as moontlikvir spelers van kleur gemaak om gekies te word. Ek het gehoor sokker is ons nasionale sport, maar ek weet vir‘nfeit datrugby die nasionale gemoed bepaal. Wen die Bokke, is almal gelukkig —van die kassier by die winkel tot die petroljoggie. Verloor hulle, kan‘nmens amper hoor hoeinflasie styg en alles duurder word. Alles is nie wel in ons landnie, maar wanneerdie Springbokke wen, dan vergeet onsbietjie van wat rondom ons aangaan. Dit bring my by die punt wat ek eintlik wil maak: kom ons gebruik hierdie toer om mekaar beter te verstaan. Rugbyis so ‘n lekker sport en is ‘n katalisator vir baie mooi dinge. Wanneer rugbyondersteuners, van verskillende spanne, goedig met mekaar spot,maakdit die spel nog lekkerder, maar wanneer hulle mekaar begin vloek en beledig, doen dit afbreuk aan die spel en dievrede watdit kanbring.

Others deliberatelywaste passengers’time, refusetostopatappropriate and safe locations, or disembark passengers in moving trafficor farfrommain access points, leavingthemto navigateunnecessaryand potentially unsafe routes
Another serious concern is the excessivevolume of music playedinside taxis. Thesoundissoloud that passengers areeffectivelydeafenedwhenattempting to communicatewith thedriver or whendisembarking. Ihavealsoencountereddrivers andattendants who appeartobeoperatingwhile intoxicated and reaking
of alcohol, often with clearsignstheyare under the influence of asubstance other than alcohol, whichmake them aggressiveand unpredictable, andraises obvious andserious safety concernsfor passengers.
Thesedrivers don't care about the livesand safety of their passengers, drivingintooncomingtrafficlanes simplytoavoid waitingintrafficaseveryoneelse must,insultingand cursingatpassengersfor objecting to their livesbeingplacedatrisk.
Theseconcernsare notaboutthe taxi industryasa whole.Theyconcern specificconductthatpassengers should notbeexpected to tolerate simplybecause theydependonpublictransport.Public transport users deserve accountabilityand protectionfrom exploitation,intimidation and unsafepractices.

TygerbergHospitalmarks50years
Incelebration of its 50th anniversary this year, TygerbergHospital in Parow, Cape Town recently honoured 260employees for their unwavering commitment to public healthcare at its Long Service AwardsCeremony.
The ceremony,which was sponsored by the hospital's facilityboard,honoured 49 employees for 40 years of service, 111 for 30 years and 100 employees for20 years of service.
The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness said these employees represent every aspect of the hospital's operations, fromdoctors, nurses andallied health professionalsto pharmacists, technicians, administrative personnel, artisans, food service workers, porters, cleaners, and support staff. While their responsibilities differ, they share acommon purpose —providing compassionate, quality healthcare to the thousands of patients who depend onthe hospital each year, the department said.
"As we celebrate 50 years of excellence, we acknowledge that our greatest achievement has never been our buildings or our technology; it has always been our people. Everyrecipient we honour today has helped write the story of Tygerberg Hospital through theirunwavering commitment to our patients, our communities and one another.
"Through your service, you have touched countless lives, strengthenedthe health system and helped build Tygerberg Hospital into the institution it is today,"dr Matodzi Mukosi, chief executive, saidin his address.
