Menno vertel hy het voor sy ma se kamervenster gestaan en na haar geroep. Daar was egter geen antwoord nie. Hulle moes hul selfone se ligte na binne skyn om deur die venster te sien. Dis toe hy iets vreemds sien —dat sy ma se bed kaal is, sonder lakens en komberse. "Ek het dit baie vreemd gevind en die deur van my ma se kamer was toe. My vrou hettoe agterom die huis gegaan. Ek het voor tussen die twee vensters gebly en daar by my ma se venster geskree 'Mamma! Is mamma hierso?' En toe gaan ek om na die voorhuis se venster toe."
ALETTASEVREEMDEGEDRAG
Volgens Rochelle het een van die bure van agter af geskree datiemand nou net die venster toegemaak het.Dis toe dat hulle ontdek dat Aletta in die huis is. Aletta,die beskuldigde, het deur die venstergeskreedat hulle die venster moettoemaak en dat sy wil gaan slaap. Hulle het uiteindelik toegang tot die huis gekry nadat Aletta die deur oopgesluit en hulle ingelig hetdat sy ma saam met 'n vriendin,wyle tannie Leentjie, na Robertsonisennog nie teruggekeer het nie. Oor die kamerdeur wat toe is, het sy gesê dat sy ma haar sleutel saamgevat het —wat ook vreemd was vir Menno, want sy ma sounie so iets doen nie. Hy vertelsoos hy deur die huis gestap het,het hy gevind dat die huis soos 'n varkhok lyk.
"Mymahet gerook, maar lankal opgehou." Toppertjies het die plek vol gelê en komberse op die vloer. Aletta het gevra vir kos en genoem dat daar niks in die huis is om die eet nie. ToeMenno dit noem aan sy skoonma, wat oorkant die pad woon en die hele tyd buitegewag het, het sy verbaas geantwoord dat sy die twee susters nogdie vorige dag gewaar het waar hulle met kospakkies van diewinkel af gekom het. Dit was ook die laaste keer dat Connielewend gesien is.
'n Heen-en-weer gesprek tussen Aletta en Mennohet voortgeduur en teen dié tyd het die gemeenskapreeds begin saamdrom.
Eenvan die bure het toegeskree dat daar iemand in die kamer lê, met komberse toegevou. Volgens Menno kon hulle nieeintlik sien of dit iemand is wat daar lê nie. Ditwas wel sy ma se bruin komberse wat op haar bed was.
Aletta hetook intussen probeer weghardloop deur die agterdeur, maar waaksame bure het haar gesien en aangekeer totdatdie polisieopgedaag het.
Metdie polisie se aankoms kon hulle die kamerdeuroopkry.
"Die polisieman het vir my gesê: 'net jy nou in die huis'. Daar lê iemand daar binne, maar hulle weet nie wie dit is nie. Ek moet die persoon vir hulle identifiseer."
Diegru-ontdekking is toe gemaak: "Toe ek ingaan,staan die een polisieman oor my ma se liggaam. Ek het nie toe geweet dis my ma nie.Toe ek die kombers lig, sienek‘ngedeelte van my ma se bors en liggaam. My ma se arm was so onder haar liggaam ingedruk, maar toe sien ek haar hand is af."
Hiérdie prentjie alleen het Menno laat knak en hy moesdie kamer verlaat.

Die reaksie van die polisiebeamptes het hom egter laat besef dat ietsgrootsfout is Dele van sy ma se liggaam is glo in die huis versteek en deur die polisie gevind. Aletta het saam met die polisie gewerk en uitgewys waar die liggaamsdele is
Die polisie en forensiese ondersoekers is die Vrydag teen 04:30 uit die huis uiten die woning is afgesper en aan die polisie oorhandig. Menno kon eers Woensdag toegang tot diehuis kry.
Die motief vir die moord is steeds onbekend. Aletta sal weer op Maandag 30 Maart in die hof verskyn.
MASEGESIGINDIEDOODSKIS
Menno moes Sondagoggend sy ma se liggaam gaan uitken. Hy prys die patologiedienste vir die heropbou van die liggaam. Volgens hom was die doodskoot aan haar agterkop. Hulle het ditso probeer kry dat dit weggesteek is en slegs die voorkant van haar gesig gewys. "Ek kon sien dis nie 'n normale liggaam wat daar lê nie. Hulle het dit so mooi gedraai dat ek nie die grusaamheid moet sien nie, maar net my ma se gesig. Dieeen gedeelte van ma se gesig was nog mooi. Die kaak was heeltemal los, maar hulle het dit so gedraai dat dit presentable lyk vir my en my vrou."
VirMenno was dit nie 'n aangename prentjie om sy ma in so ‘n toestand te sien nie.
Sy stem breek egter wanneer hy sê: "Ma se hoof en gesig was nie in 'n toestand soos ek gedink het ek sal my ma eendag, as sy die aarde moet verlaat, in so 'n toestand moet sien nie.
Verder vertel hy met trots watter gelowige en presiese mens sy was. Sy was een wat dagboek gehou het van alles en alles wat sy gedoen het, soos breiwerk, het sy neergeskryf. Sy het nog op 15 Maart laas in haar dagboekie geskryf. Sy was ook lief vir hekel en brei.
Connie het nog verlede week 'n trui vir haar kleindogter gegee wat sy gebrei het, terwyl sy besig was met Menno se een. Dit is haar laaste handewerk.
Die seun is ewe trots op hoe sy ma hom streng grootgemaak het, en die waardes wat sy hom geleer het.
"Sy't altyd vir my gesê ek het vir jou van die Here gebid en ek gee vir jou terug aan die Here. My ma het my verskriklik streng groot gemaak."
Met baie min het sy ma hom grootgemaak en deur skool, kollege en universiteit gesit en daarvoor sal hy vir ewig dankbaar wees.
Menno sê hy sal haar lag en sin van humor die meeste mis. Hy het versoek dat die gemeenskap die familie se privaatheid respekteer in die tyd van rou.

Anslin Gysman, from Kuils River and aUniversity of the Western Cape human resourcesprofessionalhas become the voice behind the Springboks’ new anthem “TheyDon’t Know What We Know,” transforming a viral AI-generated song into an emotionalanthem for South African rugby. Gysman,a 30-year-old singer who grew up in Philippi but resides in Kuils River now, works full-time in UWC’spayroll department, was selected by SA Rugby after an audition process thatfollowed the viralsuccess of an AI-created versionof the song.
Gysman is awell-known South African singer, songwriter, and radio hostknown for his emotive, faith-based music and soul-stirring performances. Based inCape Town,hehas risen to prominence through The Voice South Africa and his work with The Vocal Associates.Herecently won the “Inspirasie-mens met Kuier” award atthe Netwerk24 Smaakmaker-toekennings
“I didn’t even curateanexpectation that I’d get the job considering all the incredible people who were invited to audition. Ihad to sing formylife,” Gysman said in an interview withUWC The journey began when content creator Skiwi used artificial intelligence to generate the original version, which gained significant traction online. SA Rugby then invited singers to auditionfor ahuman-performed version.
“I received acall from SA Rugby inviting me to an audition for the song. They shared the link to the AI version, andI fell in love with it immediately,”Gysman explained.
Despite his musical success,Gysman remains committed to his academic aspirations. He holds an undergraduate degree in linguisticsand multiple

His role in the university’s HR division focuses on payroll administration. “My role is to makesure people get paid,” he said simply.

Gysman’s musical journey began in
childhood at church, and he later became afinalist on season three of The VoiceSA He is also aradio host, content creator and supportsthe DHL Stormers.
Theanthem project became deeply personal for him during the recording process. “I cried real tearsbecause it felt as if Icould sense the healing and restorative properties of thissong for SouthAfrica,” he said.
“I thought about every boy from the Cape Flats who looks like me and dreams like me, Ithought about every mother who would stop at nothing to see theirkids succeed, Isaw my grandmother,who was obsessed with rugby, cheer me on and my late uncle who would quietly stand in the crowd feeling proud of me.”
For Gysman, the anthem represents more than rugby enthusiasm. “The song is abeacon of hope, aheart’sposture and abold declaration of hope for us as a country,” he said.
“I realised what agreat moment it is,not only for me but for SouthAfrica, to have something on the airwaves that people can hold onto as asymbol of resilience that’s incredibly powerful.”
Thesinger, who has performed at rugby fan malls during World Cup seasons, described the opportunity as “the greatest honour to serve my country in this capacity.”
Looking ahead, Gysman plans to continue his academic pursuits whilst developing his music career, with new releases planned alongside his PhD studies.
His advice to aspiring artists reflectshis own journey: “The reward for your labour isn’tovernight. Nothing that is meant for you will miss you. It will locate you when the time is right and elevate you in a season that has been set aside for you.”

The 2025 generalvaluation roll (GV2025) of Cape Town’s approximately930 000 registered properties is available forinspection and, if need be, objection beforeitwillbe implemented on 1July 2026.
