HAND-REARED PENGUINS SET FOR WILD RETURN The Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (Sanccob) is hand-rearing 85 African Penguin chicks, set to be released into the wild to support population recovery. With 40 eggs incubating and 491 patients admitted in 2025, including penguins and seabirds, Sanccob continues its vital work, rehabilitating and releasing 150 seabirds back into their natural habitats. This month saw 23 oiled patients in a single month in Cape Town. Among the oiled birds were a Kelp Gull, a Hartlaub’s Gull, a Reed Cormorant and 20 African Penguins. Photo: Dan Callister

n a personal call for change local resident Troy Davies, who has been directly impacted by the surge in criminal activity on the N7 highway, is urging the community to demand better safety measures by signing a petition.
INCIDENTS HAVE HEIGHTENED FEARS
His family recently became victims of a frightening smashand-grab incident at a major intersection leading off the N7 (Malibongwe Drive), an experience that has prompted
him to take action, according to the petition he posted online. TygerBurger reported numerous times of recent incidents of smash-and-grab crimes along Malibongwe Drive and the N7 highway, raising concerns among residents and commuters. These areas, particularly near Dunoon, have become hot spots for such
criminal activities. In July 2024 a series of brazen smash-and-grab incidents were captured on drone footage, showing a suspect in a bright orange shirt breaking car windows along Malibongwe Drive and the N7.
