The Western Cape mobility department on Wednesdaylaunched alandmark initiative to register minibus taxi drivers acrossthe province,creating the first verified, province-wide database of active taxi drivers in abid to transformthe industry’s safety andprofessionalism.

Theregistrationdrive received an immediate positive response, with 510 drivers registered within the first few hoursofthe launchatthe successful pilot in Cape Town.

Western Cape minister of mobility Isaac Sileku visited theMitchells Plainmain rankonWednesdaymorning to oversee theregistrationprocess and engage directly with drivers andoperators, expressing appreciation forthe industry’s support.

“Minibus taxis carry approximately 80% of ourcommuters every day and are both thelifeblood of oureconomy and avalued stakeholder in our province,” Silekusaid.

“Improvingthisindustry is not just a policy goal; it is essentialfor adignified and integrated public transport system.”

The ministeraddressed specific concerns regardingdataprivacyand outstanding traffic fines, providing clear assurance that the registration is notapunitive measure.

“Some drivers may be hesitant to provide theirdetails, fearing this information couldbeused to track fines. This is about support, professionalisation, and restoring thedignity of the taxi driver,”Silekusaid.

Pandemonium erupted on afilm set in Century City recently when asnake decided make an unannounced appearance.

Redmoon Productions wasshooting a scene when the snake appeared. Nadia Gouws, an actress playing one of the main characters, said the incident was one of the highlights of the shoot.

Die deelnemers Nowlan Jones van Proteahoogte in Brackenfell en sy spanmaat, Wium McLachlanvan Robertson,het hul deelnameaan dié kompetisie aan Chánterievan Rensburg (12), ‘n jong kankerlyer, opgedra. Dit het deel gevorm van hul Cape Epic #RidingForChánterie-veldtog.

Chánterie is ‘n graad 7-leerder en hoofmeisiebydie Laerskool Panorama. Haar ouers, Clarissa en Divanvan Monte Vista, sê hulle is uiters dankbaar vir Jones en McLachlan se gebaar.
