Its historydates back 150 yearstowhen thousands of prospectorsarrived with onlypicks andshovels,eventually creatinga massivecavitythatreached adepth of 240 m. Themine wasactive from 1871 to 1914 andhas since evolved into Kimberley’smostvisited touristattraction, featuringa museum anda preserved“OldTown” that
recreatesthe diamond rush era. Construction forthis multi-year programme officially commencedin 2026.
AccordingtoDeBeers,all preparatory work and site establishmenthave been completed,and earthworks are currentlyadvancingasscheduled. The projectisbeingimplementedinsequential phases,with overallcompletionanticipated during2028 or 2029, dependingonweather conditions and regulatory processes.
Whilstthe work is ongoing, safety remains the toppriority. Certain areas
