Die Verkiesingskommissie(OVK) hetMaandagmiddag na afloopvan die registrasienaweekgesêaltesaam 477174 nuwe registrasies het plaasgevind, waarvan379 767 in die ouderdomsgroep16tot 29 jaar is “Die syfersdui daarop datdie jeug-gefokusde veldtog aanklankby jongmensevind en datjongmense glad nie apaties is nie,” sê die OVK. Volgens die kommissieisaltesaam 2,9 miljoenregistrasie-verwante transaksies die afgelopenaweekoor die land heen gedoen.

At the releaseofthe statistics,provincial commissioner Lt.Gen. Koliswa Otolacited that the fourth quarter’s statistics showed that the hard work anddedicationofmen and women in blue,with involvementfromcommunities and external stakeholders,managed to reduce crime in some categories in thelatestquarter.

Contactcrimes were reducedby416 cases, compared to the same period of the 2024’25 financial year

“Wesuccessfullyreduceda totalofsix categories included in contactcrimes with the exception of attempted murder,which increased. The sixcategories that decreasedin this quarter are: murder,with 35 fewer cases; sexual offences, with 106 fewer cases; assault with intent to do grievous bodilyharm(GBH), with 39 fewer cases; common assault, with 163 fewer cases; common robbery, with 40 fewer cases; androbberywith aggravating circumstances,with 83 fewer cases. ”

As alcoholabuse continues to contribute to violentcrime, the DA in the Northern Cape reiterates its call forstricter regulation of the provincial liquor industry.

Following this,itcalleduponthe publicto speakupabout anysuspiciousactivity that mighthavebeennoticedaround this charity organisation or anyinformation heardon someone tryingtosell trailer wheels “Thosetrailersare ourlifelines. Without them,our abilitytorespond to emergencies, rescue animals in distress,and transport them to safetyisseverelycompromised,” said Alet Steyn, chairperson.

“Itisbecomingincreasingly difficult to protectand assist the vulnerable animals in ourcommunity when ourfacilityistargeted by criminals who think theycan just come and takewhatdoesnot belongtothem.”
