A Tradition That Unites a community

There are few events in the Paarl community that capture the spirit of pride, tradition and unity quite like the annual Derby between New Orleans Secondar y School and Klein Nederburg Secondar y School. Since its establishment in 1984, this much-anticipated occasion has grown into far more than a spor ting fix ture. I t has b e co m e a c h e r

together learners, educators, parents, alumni and community members in a celebration of h e a l t h y c o m p

school pride.

perseverance. While vic tories will be celebrated, the true success of the week will be measured by the respec t shown to opponents, officials and suppor ters, and by the lifelong memor ies created both on and off the field.

As we count down to the exciting climax on Saturday, 8 August, we encourage ever yone to suppor t our young athletes with enthusiasm, positivity and respec t. Let us fill the sidelines with encouragement, celebrate ever y effor t, and demonstrate the values that make our schools and our community so special.

Derbyboodskap 2026: Klein Nederburg Sekondêre Skool

Ek is seker die stigter-vaders van die jaarlikse New Orleans-Klein Nederburg- derby (onder andere menere Joey Sitzer, Hankey Green, wyle Ar throb Petersen en wyle Steven Bothma) het groot drome gehad toe hulle jare gelede met hierdie briljante idee vorendag gekom het.

Hulle droom was sekerlik om 'n instelling te vestig wat aan die spor tsterre van beide skole die geleentheid sou bied om hul talente ten toon te stel. Maar eintlik meer as dit: die derby sou die skoolgemeensk appe en die breër Paarlgemeensk ap saamsnoer in 'n week van skool- en dorpstrots

“In strength we compete, in unity we meet.” Hierdie tema van Derby 2026 sluit gepas aan by die ideaal wat seder t die laat-1980's nagestreef is: that there will be competition, but also collaboration between New Orleans and K lein Nederburg secondar y schools. Healthy competition and collaboration can create a per fect environment for the growth of both schools.
