No DNA,

Just RSA They may have upheld South Africa’s name, but we can say they are the Overberg’s pride. Two sportsmen from the Overberg, Demitri Erasmus from Grabouw and Mateo le Roux from Caledon, achieved excellent feats this past week when they were crowned as

the world’s and Africa’s best. It cost hard work, but according to these two athletes, the effort was worth it, because without dreaming big, the support of your community and faith in God, your dreams will never become a reality. In 2023, Demitri Erasmus from Grabouw said he would

like to run out for the Bok team. Two years later he ran out for the junior Boks and they were crowned World Champions on Saturday. What makes this victory even more remarkable is that the Bokkies managed to reach this achievement after 13 years when they gave the New Zealand team a 23-15 beating

during the World Cup championship in Italy. (Read story on page 15). Similarly, we can proudly report of the humble Mateo le Roux from Caledon who became the African champion in high jump last week after he triumphed in Nigeria during the CAA-u-18/u-20 Championships

in Abeokuta with a winning height of 2.06 m. (Read story on page 16). Mateo, a former learner at Hoërskool Overberg who received a bursary to continue his high school career at Hoërskool Stellenbosch, has excelled in high jump from a young age and his hard work and perseverance is now bearing fruit.
