The case against a well-known surf instructor accused of allegedly raping female tourists who stayed at his Airbnb hit a snag when the case once again had to be postponed to the end of November as his co-accused is being treated at an undisclosed facility.
The surf instructor was arrested in June 2022 after a woman from the USA, who was staying in South Africa for a few months, laid the first charge against him. Since then four other women also opened cases against him.
The second accused in the matter was arrested approximately one year later. Reliable sources confirmed the second suspect was reportedly implicated only in one incident. The surf instructor from Hermanus was released on bail of R1 000 a few days after his arrest.
Other newspapers have identified the surf instructor, but South African law states that a person accused of a sexual assault or rape cannot be identified in the media or on social media until the accused has pleaded to the charges.
This typically happens during the pre-trial hearing, a special court session, held before the trial commences, to assess whether the prosecution (state prosecutor) and defence (the accused's legal representative) are prepared to proceed before a trial date is set.
The incidents of rape and sexual assault reportedly occurred between 2014 and 2022 when the women, who were all international tourists travelling alone, stayed over at the Airbnb in Hermanus.
The fact that the women were all from other countries complicated the case as South African law requires victims to

be in the country when reporting a case.
The breakthrough came when a young American woman who stayed in South Africa for a few months, laid a charge against the surf instructor, which led to his arrest on 6 June 2022.
This opened the door for the other women to be added to the case as co-complainants, after authorities had contacted them virtually to take their statements and sworn affidavits.
Whether the women will be able to testify from the different corners of the world or come to South Africa to testify during the trial still remains unclear.
Rozanne Sack, co-founder of the non-profit organisation Koleinu SA, which has been assisting the complainants, said the fact that the case has

dragged on since 2022 was extremely traumatic for the women as they hadn't managed to get justice and closure.
“It feels like forever. The investigation has been finalised and the docket is complete, and now we are waiting for the trial date to be set.”
One complainant, who currently lives in Portugal, said although she was grateful for the progress being made in the case she remained worried and distressed that the accused’s name had not yet been revealed, allowing him to continue operating his business and possibly targeting more unsuspecting women.
This concern was echoed by Sack and Rebbetzin Wendy Hendler, who co-founded the NPO with her.
“The biggest problem with sexual-abuse cases in South Africa is that the accused cannot be named until he has pleaded in court. This allowes the ac-
cused to carry on with his life, business, everything. It is an indictment on our justice system because women are still at risk,” Sack said.
There have also been reports from various sources indicating that the accused was registered with at least one dating app under the name “James”.Three different sources stated they reported the accused’s activities to accommodation booking platforms.
They claimed “he manages to slip through under false names” and also deleted his social media profiles regularly and created new ones under different names.
Nina (not her real name), one of the complainants in the case, said she had recently been alerted to a Facebook post by a woman from Hermanus, in which she claimed that the surf instructor had been harassing her.
“He knows who one of the girls is who laid a complaint and we believe he created a fake profile to badmouth and bully her.”
Nina was filled with apprehension about testifying and possibly also being targeted by her alleged rapist.
“When I testify he will find out who I am. What if he’s not found guilty and gets out?”
Sack and Hendler said they were ready to assist the complainants, who would “have to revisit their trauma” when they testify during the trial. They were, however, positive the case would have a favourable outcome.
“We have five cases where the same modus operandi was reportedly followed, so I don’t see any way he can get off scotfree,” Hendler said.

A young European traveller who stayed in Hermanus recently says he was shocked when he found out the owner of the establishment where he was staying is accused of raping a number of females who reportedly also stayed at the surf lodge in Hermanus between the period of 2014 and 2022.
“I had been staying with him for a while when I made the discovery. When I confronted him about it, he went off on a tangent, saying he is a big name in international surfing and this is all a conspiracy against him. Never once did he say he’s not guilty,” the tourist stated. “Someone who is innocent would immediately deny it but he just made up a story and said the articles are old.”
Concerned about the serious allegations he did more research around the subject and informed various authorities about it.
“I found out he doesn’t have a license to give surfing lessons,” the man said.
A woman who stayed at the same establishment in Hermanus at the time says she never felt unsafe with the surf
instructor but felt “there’s something off about him”.
“When I found out about the allegations, I felt like I had a dodged a bullet by not staying there alone,” she stated.
“It’s insane that guests are still staying there, the majority of them girls travelling on their own.”
Both the man and woman stated that they reported the matter to AirBnB who immediately removed the establishment’s advertisement.
“He changed the listing and now the address does not correspond,” the man claimed.
They were shocked to discover that the surf instructor’s name was not Robz as listed or James as he had introduced himself.
“I noticed him on Bumble, a dating app where he states that he is 35 when he is actually 45,” the tourist said. He added:
“This guy doesn’t seem very intelligent and is mentally very immature. In general he has a very disrespectful way of talking about women.”
Both the man and woman say they are extremely concerned about the fact that the surf instructor has not been identified as they believe “he is a danger to society”.

Bond switching – moving your home loan from one bank to another – is becoming increasingly popular among South African homeowners. The aim is simple: to secure a better deal on your existing bond, without selling your property.

There are several reasons why you might consider switching. Lower interest rates can translate into substantial savings over the life of your loan, while some banks offer more flexible repayment terms or lower monthly instalments. If your credit score has improved since taking out your bond, you may now qualify for better terms. Bond switching can also be used to consolidate debt or access equity in your home to fund renovations, investments or other financial goals.
The process involves two legal steps:
cancelling your existing bond at the deeds office and registering a new one with your chosen lender. A conveyancer or property attorney is required to manage both stages. It is important to note that switching is not without costs. Bond cancellation and registration fees, conveyancing charges and possible early termination penalties may apply. Before making the move, carefully weigh up the costs against the potential long-term savings. Consulting a financial advisor or property law expert can help you decide if bond switching is the right step for your circumstances.

“Mattwin se optrede het my seun se lewe geëis.

Hermanus Public Protection (HPP), in partnership with Fidelity ADT, played a key role in several arrests last month. Swift action and vigilance from HPP’s ground teams and CCTV operators successfully resolved numerous incidents, including theft, intoxication and disorderly conduct.
Marius Boshoff, Hermanus Branch Manager for Fidelity ADT, said a Fidelity Special Response Unit officer, on a routine patrol on 15 August, came across a crowd gathered around a pedestrian knocked down by a vehicle.
“He soon established that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and detained him until the police arrived on scene.
“The HPP Control Room contacted an ambulance for the injured pedestrian, and police and traffic officers were dispatched to the scene.”
The driver, taken to hospital too for blood tests, was arrested for driving under the influence.
On the same day HPP CCTV operators spotted a known criminal trailing two

drunken males in the CBD. The two removed a stop sign pole and carried it off. Police, alerted, arrested them for malicious damage to property.
Eagle-eyed HPP CCTV operators also assisted with the arrest of two suspects for theft from a motor vehicle. Two officers spotted the two loitering near a vehicle parked in the industrial area and after noticing them tampering with the vehicle, the officers alerted the police.
Boshoff said the officers intervened.
“Initially, no stolen items were found on the suspects. However, CCTV footage revealed they had discarded a bag on being approached. It was found nearby and contained a firefighter first-aid kit, leading to their arrest for theft from a motor vehicle.”
HPP officers assisted in numerous other arrests, including of three men for allegedly robbing a woman of her handbag in Westcliff, a man for shoplifting in the CBD and three men for drunkenness and disorderly conduct.
“We are incredibly proud of our HPP members,” Boshoff said, “and I thank them for their hard work and effort.”

In a groundbreaking initiative the Western Cape Department of Environmental Affairs, Theewaterskloof Municipality, Enviro Care TWK, Soul Food, the Villiersdorp Community Buy-Back Centre and local residents joined forces to clean up the informal settlement of Goniwe Park. The collaboration marks a first-of-its-kind effort in the area, setting an inspiring example of what is possible when communities and authorities work hand in hand.
“Three key lessons emerged from the initiative,” Deputy Mayor of Theewaterskloof Jennifer McKenzie said, “advocacy, community education and awareness are vital to building cleaner societies; recycling is essential to healthier living; and community participation remains the cornerstone of environmental progress.” McKenzie said the scale of the challenge quickly became clear.
“While a 5-ton truck was filled with general waste, a 1,3-ton vehicle was loaded with recyclable materials collected during the clean-up. This small but powerful demonstration proved that residents are eager to recycle once they are shown the benefits and what to do.”
Around 200 people participated in the event, most of whom had not even been formally invited. A large number of young people were present, highlighting both the enthusiasm of youth and the ongoing challenge of high unemployment in the community.
Organisers said the litter problem is far from solved. Local rivers remain heavily polluted, underscoring the urgent need for ongoing interventions. However, the momentum from this clean-up offers hope. With continued awareness campaigns, organisers believe Villiersdorp and the broader Theewaterskloof could see a significant reduction in waste and a shift towards greener,

healthier communities. Looking ahead, participants called on the municipality to encourage open-space adoption projects and greening initiatives across settlements.
Such efforts will not only improve the environment but also uplift community
morale and quality of life.
“Thankful for everyone who participated, including the municipality and the WCDEA, this initiative proves that with cooperation and determination cleaner and safer communities are possible,” the organisers stated.
When three of Grabouw’s most prominent businesses decided to roll up their sleeves this Clean-Up and Recycle Month, they didn’t just talk about making a difference; they grabbed their gloves and headed straight to the water's edge.
In a powerful display of corporate environmental responsibility Two-ADay, Oude Molen Distillery and Western Cape Fruit Processors joined forces to tackle one of the region’s most pressing environmental challenges – the pollution choking the vital Swannie River.
The initiative, which started on Mon-
day 15 September, will run for 14 weeks at a cost of approximately R200 000. Six workers from G&P Transport and Maintenance have been appointed to carry out the clean-up, equipped with protective gear and tools to safely remove waste.
“We cross the river every day on our way to work, and it is heartbreaking to see the plastic, tyres, and even nappies that pollute it,” says Jandré Human, winemaker at Oude Molen Distillery.
tor at Two-A-Day, said the project is not only about environmental protection but also about the reputation and well-being of the town itself.
“The accumulation of rubbish, inadequate waste management, and the general lack of tidiness in the town are having a detrimental effect on the image of Grabouw.” He believes cleaner surroundings would have lasting benefits.
While the river clean-up may feel like a small step it’s something meaningful citizens can do to make a difference, Human believes.
“We hope this initiative inspires other businesses and communities to take action in uplifting the environment. Clearing the river is a short-term solution, but we are already in discussions with the municipality and other stakeholders about long-term measures.”

The targeted stretch of river, between Oude Molen and the local pump station, is expected to yield several tons of plastic and other waste. The Swannie River flows into the Palmiet River, which eventually empties into the Atlantic Ocean south of Kleinmond, meaning the project carries broader environmental impact beyond Grabouw.
Last year a smaller clean-up by Oude Molen removed 38 tons of plastic. This year, in a more sustainable approach, collected plastic will not go to landfill but instead be delivered to Beautiful Star Recycling and Projects for resale.
The pollution poses a significant risk to both the environment and agriculture. Microplastics can find their way into soil, while discarded plastic bags often clog water pumps used for irrigation.
Chris Petzer, Group Operations Direc-
“It is essential for sustaining investor confidence, promoting tourism and fostering community pride.
“Everything that happens in Grabouw impacts our employees, who in turn influence our business. If we lift the standards of the community it will have a direct effect on our people and, eventually, the company.”
Two-A-Day has also called for stronger involvement from Theewaterskloof Municipality. “We have written to our local municipality,” Petzer said, “asking them to play a bigger role in tackling areas where high levels of pollution have become the norm.
“The health of our water sources is incredibly important. Much of our irrigation water comes from the Swannie River, and if we don’t protect it the impact will be felt all the way down to farm level. Our producers depend on clean, good-quality water to grow apples and pears of the highest standard.”
This collaboration underscores the role local businesses can play in addressing environmental challenges, while highlighting the urgent need for sustainable solutions to protect South Africa’s rivers and farmlands.
“As a shareholder in Two-A-Day and the company responsible for marketing its fruit globally we at Tru-Cape know that healthy rivers and clean water are essential for both the environment and the farming communities who depend on them,” said Roelf Pienaar, Managing Director of Tru-Cape Fruit Marketing.
“We are especially proud of the leadership that Two-A-Day is showing in this initiative. It proves that when businesses work together, we can make a real and lasting difference.
“Protecting our natural resources not only safeguards the future of farming but also strengthens the communities and ecosystems that support it.”

I want to take the opportunity to congratulate the Municipal Manager and law enforcement on saving an elderly lady recently from a friendly encounter with a poodle in Haarderbaai with two full-on patrols, and for stopping a hundred or more cars coming out from Onrus River at 10:00 in the morning of same day, thereby apprehending all the criminals on their way to go shopping. What does this achieve? Revenue collection perhaps, or is it more sinister?
It is no secret that SA is a challenged state, if not a failed one on many fronts. When laws are enforced in such a manner as to apply to some and not to others, fear and surveillance are employed to enforce compliance with unpragmatic if not absurd legislation, we all should take a stance and object. No-one can dispute the hoards of dogs in Zwelihle, none of them ever on a leash, along with toddlers running all over the streets at their peril,
and lets not forget the robberies, murder and mayhem within the township. This is not being racist, but I am a proponent of equality for all before the law, and categorically oppose authoritarianism and the discriminatory application of our laws. What are you protecting by issuing fines for friendly dogs off-leash on Sandbaai and Onrus beach or in Haarderbaai, where they have the time of their lives with their owners, with no danger to anyone? And how else but by their conspicuous absence is law enforcement (not MCM who do their best) noticeable in the ongoing poaching saga? Not enough that we were barred from walking there during covid - because fresh air is infectious? Why don’t you put up more surveillance to fine without even patrolling? Get a life and fight crime; and please let us be. Beware of mindless authoritarianism which is encroaching on all of our liberties.
Ingo Schirmer, Hermanus
I have to ask - are we living in a municipality-run dictatorship where decisions are made without any consultation from the very people they affect?
In recent months, the Overstrand Municipality has repeatedly made impactful changes without asking for public input. Water tariffs go up, levies go up - yet no one gets a say. And now, another blow: the scrapping of our “No Mow Month”. For the past two years, this initiative allowed our precious spring wildflowers - especially the iconic white daisies - to bloom freely between July and October. These flowers are not only breathtaking to look at, but also vital for our local bio-
diversity and the identity of our region.
This year, instead of seeing fields of blooms, we will see mower blades cutting them down before they get the chance to thrive. The official reason? Some residents complained that the flowers made public spaces look “unkempt”. But should the beauty and ecological importance of our natural heritage be sacrificed for a tidier lawn? Overstrand’s wildflowers are part of what makes our area unique. Once they are gone, they are gone. I urge the municipality to reconsider this decision and to start engaging with the community.
Corine, Gansbaai

I am writing as a deeply concerned and long-standing resident of Hermanus, my home since the 1980s. I feel compelled to respond to your recent coverage of the case involving the 41-year-old Hermanus man arrested in June for possession and distribution of child pornography. Firstly, the decision to release him on bail of only R10 000 is incomprehensible given the seriousness of the charges. This is not a minor offence. It involves not only the consumption but also the distribution of child pornography, flagged internationally by the FBI and traced back to our very town. To grant such leniency to someone implicated in such evil is a slap in the face to every parent, grandparent and citizen who values the safety of their children. The fact that this individual is currently under house arrest is already far too generous. This allows him to continue living in relative freedom, able to socialise, potentially make money and maintain a semblance of a normal life. Justice is not about making life easier for those who pose a threat to society, and especially its most vulnerable. What assurances do we as a community have that he is not in contact with children, whether directly or indirectly through visitors and associates?
It must also be said, child pornography is not a “victimless crime”. Every single image or video in this man’s possession is evidence of a real child being abused, traumatised and exploited! By viewing and distributing this material he is complicit in those crimes! To relax his re-
strictions is to show disregard for those very children. Secondly, leniency in such cases sets a dangerous precedent. If bail conditions can be softened for someone accused of such grotesque offences what message does that send to others? That child exploitation is not taken seriously enough in our justice system? That financial inconvenience for an accused man outweighs the lifelong trauma of abused children?
Thirdly, our community deserves to be formally informed about decisions regarding bail and conditions in cases of such gravity. The people of Hermanus have a right to transparency, accountability and assurance that their children are being prioritised over convenience and business interests. Silence breeds mistrust and allows rumours – of paedophile rings and hidden dangers – to fester unchecked.
I want to make my position clear: I will not stand idly by while further leniency is considered for this man. Pornography in itself is wicked and degrading, but child pornography is nothing short of pure evil, absolute decimation and utterly against God’s principles!
Our beautiful town leads in so many ways; let this be another example of it, showing we will not tolerate moral decay, that we will protect the innocent, that we stand for justice and defend our town’s integrity, its people and future. For the sake of every child in Hermanus, South Africa and beyond we must act.
Concerned resident, Hermanus
Isn’t it a shame, this tearing down instead of building up of people’s lives at McMillan House. Isn’t this the sickness of our age, greed above all costs?
At least in heaven there will be space for even the humble mouse. No strings attached.

It is one of Hermanus’ most unique features and it has captured hearts worldwide.
Picture this: you’re strolling along the dramatic clifftops of Hermanus when suddenly, a haunting call echoes across the bay - not from the majestic southern right whales themselves, but from a colorfully dressed figure wielding a kelp horn, announcing the presence of these ocean giants to anyone within earshot. This is the extraordinary story of Hermanus’s Whale Crier, a position that began as a spontaneous publicity stunt in the early 1990s. According to the Hermanus Info Centre the tradition of the Whale Crier started in 1991 when a visitor came into the publicity offices of Hermanus and exclaimed that the whales he had just seen “must be the best kept secret in the Cape”. On hearing this, Jim Wepener decided that this was a waste of a great opportunity and set about planning and organising the publicity stunt that is known today as the Whale Crier of Hermanus. Jim was a long-time resident of Hermanus and had made his way as a hotel and tourism manager. At first he had some of his family members call in to the local radio station when-

ever whales were spotted until he decided to up the ante and create a new position in Hermanus as “The Whale Crier”. By August 1992 the first Whale Crier was heard, blowing on the now familiar kelp horn to alert tourists of whales nearby.
The tale spans three decades, five remarkable individuals, and countless magical moments where the ancient migration of whales meets the timeless human desire to share this wonder with others...
When Wilson Salakuzana first picked up the iconic kelp horn in the early 1990s, few could have predicted that this humble resident of Zwelihle would soon become one of South Africa’s most recognizable faces on the international tourism stage.Within months of assuming his duties, Wilson’s infectious enthusiasm had earned him an extraordinary accolade. Tourism officials noted that he had become “the most photographed South African after Nelson Mandela”. For eight remarkable years, Wilson became the human bridge between the magnificent southern right whales and the thousands of tourists who flocked to Hermanus’s beaches and viewpoints. Today Silize Kuka is the Whale Crier of Hermanus and proud of his work.

This is certainly one of the most popular events of the Whale Festival – the Whales & Wheels Vintage and Classic Car Exhibition.
The exhibition, which will be held in the Sandbaai Hall, boasts more than 100 vintage, classic, and custom vehicles. According to the organiser and long-time resident of Sandbaai, Roy Groenewald, it is definitely a highlight on the Whale Festival calendar. What makes this Vintage and Classic

Car Exhibition even more unique is the fact that people from all over the Western Cape come here to display their cars.
During the car exhibition, you not only have the opportunity to talk with the owners, but it’s also the perfect time to take that selfie next to one of the vintage cars.Festival goers just need to arrive early at the Whales & Wheels Vintage and Classic Car Exhibition, because it is only offered from 09:00 to 15:00 on Saturday 4 October.

Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek dominated wine tourism for years, but these days the wine routes in the Overberg are becoming increasingly popular. Not only are the wines in the Overberg winning more and more awards, but places like Benguela Cove, Creations and now Gabriëlskloof are also making a name for themselves around the world.
According to Master of Wine Tim Atkin the majority of the country’s best winegrowers and winemakers are closely attuned to nature and deeply respectful of their vineyards. Acknowledging that the land, the vines and the vintage have the final say lets winemakers create wines that express a place and time as much as their own personalities. He observes that currently “the overwhelming majority of the Cape’s best wines are single- vineyard or single-estate bottlings.”
For the 2025 report Atkin tasted 2 000 wines from close to 400 producers over two visits to the country, funded and organised by Wines of South Africa (WoSA). “WoSA’s support has been invaluable since the report’s inception in 2013,” he said.
This year a great honour fell on Dr Paul Clüver when he was crowned the 2025 Winemaking Legend. As far back as the 1980s he was instrumental in
establishing Elgin as a cool-climate wine-growing area. Other wine farms in the Overberg that were also honoured were Gabriëlskloof in Botrivier, winner of the Best Cellar Door Experience, and Rosé Wine Discovery of the Year 2024 Lost Boy Latigo in Cape Agulhas.
Another wine farm that not only produces very good wines, but also steals the hearts of people all over the world is Bouchard Finlayson. This year its Galpin Peak Pinot Noir 2023 walked away with the Michelangelo Trophy.
In 1989 Bouchard Finlayson planted the first Pinot Noir vines in the Hemelen-Aarde Valley, a bold step into uncharted territory that would shape the future of South African winemaking. Thirty-six years later that pioneering spirit has been honoured once again, as the Galpin Peak Pinot Noir 2023 received the Michelangelo Trophy, South Africa’s most prestigious wine accolade. This vintage is more than a bottle. It is the culmination of decades of quiet craftsmanship, of soil and soul, and of a winemaker’s pursuit of elegance and truth in Pinot Noir. Crafted by Chris Albrecht, the 2023 Galpin Peak carries the depth of the estate’s history and the promise of what is still to come.
From Tim Atkin MW’s 96-point rating to Gold medals at Decanter and IWC, Galpin Peak has consistently defined
South African Pinot Noir on the world stage. The 2023 vintage joins this lineage with not only the Michelangelo Trophy, but also Old Vine Project Heritage Recognition, affirming Bouchard Finlayson’s role as a custodian of terroir and tradition.
“Pinot Noir is justifiably considered, among many, to pose the greatest challenge in producing a wine of excellence,” said Albrecht. “Notoriously sentient, it disapproves of forceful interference, but is unmatched in its eloquent expression of contentment.”
Another boutique winery, Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate, has triumphed at the 2025 Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Awards, winning the prestigious Best Wine of Show trophy for its Vinography Cabernet Sauvignon 2021.
The wine outshone 1 335 entries to secure the premier wine competition's highest honour, marking the second time the estate has achieved this remarkable feat.
The Vinography Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 was also named the Best Cabernet Sauvignon Trophy winner and received the Southern Sun Wine Grand Prix award, a distinction reserved for only 1 of 23 top entries. These accolades reaffirm the estate's dedication to crafting world-class wines that are a pure expression of its unique coastal terroir.

After two years Hermanus is once again preparing to welcome nature's most magnificent visitors with the internationally acclaimed Hermanus Whale Festival from 3-5 October.
This year's celebration promises to be the biggest yet, offering visitors an unparallelled opportunity to witness the annual migration of southern right whales while enjoying a weekend packed with entertain-

ment, education, and environmental awareness events. What sets the Hermanus Whale Festival apart from any other event worldwide is its unique status as the only eco-marine festival on the planet. This distinction

reflects the event's deep commitment to marine conservation and its role in educating the public about ocean preservation while celebrating the natural spectacle that draws visitors from across the globe. "This isn't
just a festival – it's a celebration of one of nature's most incredible phenomena. Visitors get the rare chance to witness southern right whales up close as they make their annual journey to our coastal waters."

It was a momentous occasion for Swartberg Secondary School in Caledon when its brand-new state-of-the-art science laboratory was officially opened.
The construction of the Science Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC) was made possible through the partnership among Advancing Knowledge NPC, Garden Cities Archway Foundation and Western Cape Education Department. (“Schools boast new science labs”, Hermanus Times, 10 September 2025).
critical thinking, problem solving and analytical skills to understand the natural world so they can make decisions and engage responsibly with scientific and technological advancement. Science education should foster curiosity, creativity and an enquiring mind to prepare people for careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
“We started the project in 2004. To us the professional development of teachers was so important. We needed to make sure teachers in the classrooms are able to teach the subject at an advanced level of understanding. That is why we are running courses for teachers.”

Swartberg’s principal Adrienne Delport welcomed the dignitaries who made this R800 000 project possible, the principals of the other Caledon schools and especially the learners, this being their special day. “Today is a very joyous occasion because our school is a beacon of hope in our community and this actually gives learners another reason to choose to attend our school. We would really like to excel in science and with this project we can do that. We are so thankful for all the donors, funders and everybody that made this day possible.”
Prof Shaheed Hartley, director of Advancing Knowledge NPC, said: “The textbook definition of the purpose of science education is to equip individuals with
John Matthews, CEO of Garden Cities Archway Foundation, said: “Nobody can deny an individual education, nor can anybody take it away from them. Education is key to success. Swartberg’s motto is ‘Knowledge Enlightens’. Knowledge gives one clarity, which is the purpose of this facility. We do this to educate our youth. We do this to pass the torch on to the new generation. We would like to congratulate the school on this facility, but now it is in your hands. It depends on you what happens to this facility.”
This brings the total of new Science TLC’s constructed at Western Cape schools since 2011 to 118.
