The police National Serial and Electronic Crime Investigations (SECI) Team operationalised intelligence received from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the United States Embassy, and the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). The intelligence indicated that a target, suspected of being linked to violent online networks commonly referred to as “764,” was believed to be located in South Africa.

The “764” networks are violent international online extremist networks associated with child exploitation. These perpetrators reportedly target, blackmail, and coerce minors into online sexual abuse, torturing and murdering of animals and other forms of harmful criminal activity. Following extensive investigations, the National SECI Team traced the teenager to an address in Malmesbury, where he was arrested in the act on Monday, 17 August. The operation was led by the National

SECI Team, supported by members of Head Office Occult Unit, the Paarl Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, Paarl K9 Unit, and Western Cape Crime Scene Investigation Unit, as well as agents from the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), US Embassy. A preliminary on-site analysis of the suspect’s electronic devices uncovered explicit images and videos depicting child sexual abuse and animal mutilation. The devices will undergo comprehensive forensic analysis to determine the full extent of the alleged offences. A number of child victims have been identified thus far.

Malmesbury High plants vege patch A new vegetable garden project was officially launched at Malmesbury High School in Chatsworth on 3 September through a partnership involving ABSA, the Swartland Municipality’s Sondeza programme and the school community. ABSA has been involved with the Sondeza camps by providing facilitators for the past 20 years. In 2025, ABSA committed funding towards the establishment of a vegetable garden at a deserving school in the Swartland. Funding for the initiative was linked to ABSA’s annual Run Your City event, with R1 donated towards the project for every kilometre completed. Malmesbury High School was identified for the project following an assessment against several criteria, including the need for such an initiative, the availability of suitable land and water, and the school’s willingness and capacity to maintain the garden. The Western Cape Department of Agriculture has also come on board and pledged water tanks, netting and irrigation for the new garden. A vital part of the project team is Urban Harvest, which was appointed by ABSA to guide and support the school for a period of one year. The organisation will assist with the establishment of the garden and provide ongoing monthly advice, resources and practical support. The vegetable garden aims to provide fresh produce for the school’s feeding programme; make affordable fresh produce available to the surrounding community and create an opportunity for the school to generate additional income. New stage production about ﬁnancial literacy launched this week Acclaimed South African performance group Spektrum is launching a vital, completely free educational stage production about financial literacy, aimed at tackling issues such as debt, debt management and healthy money matters. This 30-year-old theatre collective has been commissioned by the government to take the production, presented in English, Afrikaans and isiXhosa on a regional tour targeting community hubs, municipal spaces, and local venues across the City of Cape Town and the Swartland municipality. The production, which started yesterday is tailored to cut through complex economic jargon to deliver real, actionable tools

for everyday survival. Using engaging narrative storytelling and live performance, the production provides practical insights on budgeting around the importance of managing household income, navigating debt with crucial strategies to recognize and avoid predatory lending and "loan shark" traps and active debt management demonstrating direct steps to take. "With so many citizens currently facing extreme financial pressure, this tour arrives at a crucial time," says Gaerin Hauptfleisch, representative for Spektrum. "Because this initiative is entirely funded and commissioned by the government, there is absolutely no cost to the public.

We are partnering with local non-profits, municipal offices, and community leaders to ensure this free resource reaches the heart of our communities." When asked who should attend, he said anyone interested in making sound financial decisions. The shows will start today, 8 September in Mamre at 10:00 in the community hall and at 12:30 at Atlantis Saxonsea Primary. The initiative aims to educate the public on "freedom of testation", the legal privilege that allows individuals to ensure their assets are distributed according to their wishes after death. According to the Law Society, attorneys possess the necessary qualifications and expertise to draft wills that meet legal requirements and comply with testators' intentions. Many wills prove invalid because they were drafted without proper legal knowledge of statutory requirements. Without a valid will, estates are distributed according to the Intestate Succession Act, which generally transfers possessions to spouses, children, siblings, parents and extended family members based on degrees of relationship and financial dependence. However, dying intestate can create complications. Assets may not reach the testator's preferred beneficiaries, and the appointment of an executor can be delayed. The appointed executor may be someone the deceased would not have chosen, potentially leading to unnecessary costs and family conflict over asset distribution. The Law Society warns that unclear instructions regarding estate distribution often result in unhappiness and disputes among family members. Kennis geskied hiermee dat Swartland Munisipaliteit beginselgoedkeuring verleen het vir die voorgestelde vervreemding van Erf 15701, Malmesbury, groot 30,9528 hektaar, by wyse van verkoop deur middel van ’n mededingende openbare tender vir die ves#ging en bedryf van ’n sonkragenergiefasiliteit. In Mei 2023 het die Raad beginselgoedkeuring verleen dat ’n gedeelte van Erf 327, Malmesbury, beskikbaar gestel word vir die ves#ging van ’n sonkragaanleg. Die grondbesitmeganisme wat destyds goedgekeur is, was ’n langtermynhuur. Die projekterrein is sedertdien opgemeet en as ’n afsonderlike eiendom, naamlik Erf 15701, Malmesbury, geregistreer. Na verdere oorweging van die aard en langtermynvereistes van die projek, is besluit om ’n verandering van die grondbesitmeganisme na ’n verkoop in plaas van ’n langtermynhuur te oorweeg. Die voorgestelde verkoop sal onder meer meer permanente en sekere grondregte vir die projek bied, terwyl die Munisipaliteit nie van voorneme is om die sonkragaanleg self te besit of te bedryf nie. ’n Openbare mededingende bodproses sal me"ertyd ten opsigte van die sonkragenergieprojek gevolg word. Hierdie proses sal ’n versoek om voorstelle vir die ves#ging en bedryf van die sonkragaanleg insluit. Die voorgestelde verkoop van Erf 15701 sal derhalwe nie as ’n alleenstaande grondtransaksie geïmplementeer word nie, maar met die mededingende proses vir die sonkragenergieprojek gekoördineer word. Die voorgestelde reserwekoopprys is R6 965 000, plus BTW indien van toepassing, gebaseer op die beves#gde ope markwaarde van die eiendom. Aangesien ’n verkoop, anders as ’n huur, die permanente oordrag van eienaarskap van munisipale grond behels, word ’n nuwe openbaredeelnameproses onderneem. Robert gaan vis oorsee jag Robert Moreland (62) van Malmesbury is eersdaags op pad na Montenegro in die suide van Europa, waar hy as lid van die Springbok-spieshengelspan sy land en sy dorp in die Adriatiese See sal verteenwoordig. Die Wêreld-onderwaterfederasie (CMAS) se Euro Afrika-spieshengelkampioenskap word van 22 tot 25 Oktober by die stad Bar beslis, waar Moreland teen deelnemers van meer as 20 lande sal meeding en hul vaardighede, waagmoed en respek vir die natuur onder die water gaan uitleef en op die proef stel. Die Suid-Afrikaanse Onderwatersportfederasie het in Julie vanjaar Moreland, wat gereeld met sy pylgeweer gaan duik, van sy insluiting in die span in kennis gestel. wag. ’n Verloor teen Voorberg sou Eagles die streekuitdaagbeker laat wen. Dinge het egter nie uitgewerk soos hulle gehoop het nie en Coronations het sy laaste wedstryd teen Voorberg met 40-19 gewen. Met dié oorwinning het Corries die beker voor Eagles se neus weggeraap en die Swartwes-streekuitdaagtitel beklink. Voorberg en Darling Young Tigers, wat ook nog in die wedloop was, se hoop is egter vernietig toe Voorberg deur Corries uit die wedloop geboender is. Dit is nou ’n uitgemaakte saak dat Corries en Eagles die Swartwes-streek in die Sanlam-Boland-Super-10-kompetisie later in November sal verteenwoordig.
