Inteendeel– duisende toegewyde onderwysers werk daagliksonder groot druk om die beste moontlike onderwys aan leerders te bied. Tog ervaar baie gesinnedat die behoeftes van individuelekinders niealtydmaklik binne groteronderwysomgewings oorwin kan word nie.

Ouers meld toenemendeuitdagings aan, soos oorvol klasse, uiteenlopende leerbehoeftes, akademiese druken kinderswat eenvoudig nie optimaal binne tradisionele strukture floreer nie. Sommige leerders benodig meer individuele aandag,terwyl ander beter presteer in kleiner, rustiger leeromgewings.

West Coast College hosted the AllanGray Inspire Inter-Campus Entrepreneurship Competition in Malmesbury on 10 June, bringing aspiring student entrepreneurs from across its campuses together to showcase innovative business ideas and established enterprises.

Thecompetition, which started in 2022, provideda valuable platform for students to present their ventures to a panel of judges, demonstrating creativity, innovation and practical businessskills.

Addressing the participants, Robertson encouraged students to embraceinnovation, resilience and forward-thinking entrepreneurship under the theme, “It’s NotBusiness as Usual”. This year’s competition attracted an impressive 107 entries from students across WestCoast College, more than doublethe approximately 50 entriesreceived the previous year.

Following preliminary rounds 26 student entrepreneurs wereselected to pitch their business ideas and established enterprises at the inter-campus competition.

In the Tech Business category, Karabelo Frans Borokelo (first) from the Vredendal Campus, Khanyisa Mantshi (second) from the Malmesbury Campus andSanele Mingane (third) from the Vredenburg Campus impressed the judging panel and finished among the top three. Simiso Biyela from the Vredenburg Campus also distinguished himself in the Trade Business category.

Thetop two competitors in each category will now advance to the regionalcompetition, scheduled to take place at the Northern Cape Rural TVET College in Upingtonon 7August, where they will represent West Coast College against competitors from across theregion. Riaan Hoffman, deputy principal: Partnerships, Innovation and Development at West Coast College, said the institution extends beyond equipping studentswith employable skills.
