Eikestad-kraanwater veilig Yaël Malgas Damvlakke in die Wes-Kaap het gestyg en in die Eikestad verseker die Stellenboschmunisipaliteit inwoners dat die watergehalte hier veilig vir verbruik is. Die departement van water en sanitasie (DWS) het die afgelope Dinsdag (22 September) in ’n verklaring gesê damvlakke het in ’n positiewe rigting beweeg, met die provinsie se ses opgaardamme wat gesamentlik 76,14% vol is. Volgens die jongste data van die Kaapstad-watertoevoerstelsel het die damvlakke sedert verlede week met 1,42% gestyg. Ten spyte van die toename maan Ntombizanele Bila-Mupariwa, provinsiale hoof van die departement, moet water steeds verantwoordelik gebruik word en watervermorsing vermy word. “Hoewel die huidige toename in opgaardamvlakke bemoedigend is, behoort dit nie tot gemaklikheid lei nie. Verantwoordelike watergebruik bly noodsaaklik om ons waterhulpbronne te beskerm en langtermyn-watersekuriteit vir die Wes-Kaap te verseker. Elke inwoner, onderneming en industrie het ’n rol om te speel,” sê sy. Die grootste dam in die Kaapstad-watertoevoerstelsel, die Theewaterskloofdam, is tans 76,49% vol. Bila-Mupariwa sê damvlakke word voordurend gemonitor sodat proaktiewe maatreëls geneem kan word. Met die El Niño-toestande wat teen die einde van die jaar verwag word, word hoër temperature, meer verdamping en bykomende druk op waterhulpbronne verwag. “Waterbewaring moet ’n daaglikse gewoonte word. Die water wat ons vandag spaar, sal ons help om veerkrag te bou en ons voorrade vir die maande wat voorlê te beskerm,” sê Bila-Mupariwa. Volgens die munisipaliteit voldoen die plaaslike watergehalte aan die Suid-Afrikaanse nasionale SANS 241-standaarde. “Die munisipaliteit voer roetine-monitering van watergehalte uit, insluitend omvattende laboratoriumtoetse, om te verseker dat ons drinkwater veilig bly en aan die vereiste standaarde voldoen. As ’n bykomende veiligheidsmaatreël word watermonsters ook onafhanklik deur die Wetenskaplike en Nywerheidsnavorsingsraad (WNNR)-laboratoriums vir bakteriologiese en mikroskopiese parameters getoets. Die resultate wat ontvang is, is positief en geen rede tot kommer is geïdentifiseer nie,” lui ’n verklaring wat verlede week deur die munisipaliteit uitgereik is. Die munisipaliteit erken die kleur en skakering van water mag dalk opval en skryf dit toe aan ’n seisoenale verskynsel, veral tydens en ná reënvalperiodes. “Die kleur word veroorsaak deur natuurlike tanniene wat uit plantmateriaal – veral fynbos – vrygestel word en ná reënval in waterbronne kan beland. Die teenwoordigheid van hierdie natuurlike kleur beïnvloed nie die veiligheid van die water nie.”

Eerste bergbrand al in Simondium

Die vlamme van die komende brandseisoen het reeds begin woed met plaaslike brandweerbeamptes wat die afgelope naweek vlamme in Simondium ingekamp het. Twee grondspanne van die Kaapse Wynland-distriksmunisipaliteit (KWDM) het die afgelope Vrydag (18 September) reageer nadat ’n brand op die berg bo Simondium uitgebreek het. Die brand, wat bo die Le Plaisirwynlandgoed gewoed het, is deur ’n kombinasie van hoë brandstoflading en

baie sterk wind aangeblaas. Wes-Kaap fokus op plaasaanvalle Ishmael Mabena Die Wes-Kaapse regering het sy eie veiligheidsintervensies uitgebrei te midde van voortdurende druk op landelike polisiëringsbronne om plaasaanvalle en ander misdade wat boerderygemeenskappe raak, te bestry. Polisiekantore in landelike gebiede staar uitdagings in die gesig, insluitend verouderende voertuie, ’n tekort aan personeel en groot geografiese gebiede, terwyl die polisie die land se hoogste misdaadgenererende gebiede prioritiseer, sê Anroux Marais, die LUR vir polisie-oorsig en gemeenskapsveiligheid. “Plaasaanvalle bly ’n groot bron van kommer weens die verreikende gevolge daarvan – nie net vir die individue wat skade ly of die boerderygemeenskap nie, maar ook vir voedselsekerheid in die land,” sê Marais. Gespesialiseerde polisie-eenhede word gereeld in landelike gebiede met toenemende misdadige aktiwiteite ontplooi – veral waar aanduidings is dat misdaad aan georganiseerde sindikate of bendes gekoppel kan word, sê Marais. Sy voeg egter by die beskikbare hulpbronne vir landelike polisiekantore is beperk. “Ek het gesien nuwe voertuie is aan sommige polisiekantore toegeken. Dit moet egter in ag geneem word teen die breër werklikheid dat polisiëringsbronne steeds as gevolg van jare se verwaarlosing en onderfinansiering steeds erg beperk is. “Baie landelike kantore werk steeds met verouderende voertuigvlote, wat tot onklaarraking geneig is, terwyl personeeltekorte ’n groot uitdaging bly.” In reaksie hierop het die Wes-Kaapse departement vir polisie-oorsig en gemeenskapsveiligheid sy eie kapasiteit verhoog om landelike veiligheid te ondersteun. Die departement het sedert 2019 landelike LEAP-kapasiteit in die Swartland en Overstrand gevestig. Daarbenewens het hy vennootskappe met 24 landelike munisipaliteite aangegaan om 566 munisipale vredesbeamptes tot dusver op te lei en toe te rus en landelike K9-kapasiteit (polisiehonde-eenhede) hier in Stellenbosch, maar ook in die Swartland en Mosselbaai, te vestig. Die doel van dié werk is om polisiekapasiteit te verhoog. Daarby werk die departement met landbou-organisasies en ander staatsinstellings om misdaad op ’n gekoördinerende manier te bekamp. Marais sê ’n onlangse optrede in die Cederberg het die waarde om inligting te

deel en ontplooiing te koördineer, bewys nadat vier verdagtes wat in verband met ’n plaasaanval en huisroof daar in hegtenis geneem is. Marais bieg egter dit bly ’n uitdaging om die omvang van plaasaanvalle te bepaal, aangesien dit nie as ’n afsonderlike misdaadafdeling deur die polisie aangeteken word nie. Dit maak dit moeilik om jaar-op-jaar-vergelykings te doen. Die jongste amptelike statistiek illustreer hierdie uitdaging. Die polisie het in die eerste kwartaal van 2026-’27 op nasionale vlak een moord in ’n landbougebied en vier aanvalle op landelike gemeenskappe aangeteken. Die moord in ’n landbougebied is in Gauteng aangeteken. Onafhanklike landbou-organisasies het aansienlik hoër syfers aangeteken deur van hul eie definisies en moniteringstelsels gebruik te maak. Die Transvaalse Landbou-unie van Suid-Afrika, die oudste landbou-organisasie in die land, het tussen 1 en 27 Augustus vanjaar 21 plaasaanvalle en twee plaasmoorde aangemeld. Intussen het AfriForum 184 plaasaanvalle en 29 moorde in 2025 aangeteken. Hierdie syfers kan egter nie direk met polisiesyfers vergelyk word nie, omdat die organisasies verskillende definisies, metodologieë en verslagdoeningstydperke gebruik. Die polisie sê hy het verlede Maart syfers oor plaasmoorde, wat deur AfriForum ingedien is, geverifieer. Destyds is glo bevind slegs een van die gevalle, wat ’n plaaseienaar betrek het en vir verifikasie voorgelê is, is in die polisie se amptelike statistiek vir daardie kwartaal weerspieël. Op internasionale vlak opper die Amerikaanse regering herhaaldelik bewerings van geweld teen wit boere. Die Suid-Afrikaanse regering het egter bewerings van sistematiese vervolging verwerp. Verlede week het die Amerikaanse minister van buitelandse sake, Marco Rubio, visumbeperkings vir sekere Suid-Afrikaners aangekondig. Marais meen landelike veiligheid moet deur meer as individuele voorvalsyfers beoordeel word. Sy glo dit moet polisie-reaksietye, inhegtenisnemings, die uitkomste van hofsake, intelligensie geleide optredes, voertuigbeskikbaarheid en die doeltreffendheid van plaaslike veiligheidsvennootskappe insluit. In die Wes-Kaap het die reaksie toenemend beteken dat polisiekapasiteit deur provinsiale en munisipale ingrypings aangevul word terwyl owerhede steeds worstel hoe om die omvang van landelike misdaad die beste te meet.

Juno does it again! Fresh from a successful drug bust in Cloetesville earlier this month, Stellenbosch K9 Unit member Juno and his handler Anwar Jansen struck in Klapmuts on Saturday (19 September), uncovering a stash of drugs with an estimated street value of R2 800. According to a statement from Stellenbosch Municipality, members of the newly formed unit and Klapmuts police were following up on information about suspected drug activity, when Juno sniffed out drugs hidden beneath a cupboard. The drug haul included 36 half Mandrax tablets, eight quarter Mandrax tablets, one full Mandrax tablet and 38 small bags of tik. One male suspect was arrested on charges relating to the possession of illegal substances. “Juno’s success highlights the important role that trained K9s can play in supporting police operations and combating drug-related crime in our communities,” the statement read. “The K9 programme is still to be officially launched and will subsequently be rolled out to all areas, strengthening municipal law-enforcement efforts and bringing this valuable resource to more communities.”

The race is on for seats in S’bosch Yaël Malgas

The men and women who are ready to represent the residents of Stellenbosch for the next four years have raised there hands. Eighteen political parties have registered to contest for the seats in Stellenbosch in the upcoming Local Government Election (LGE) on Wednesday 4 November. According to the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) 3 456 3245 voters in the province have a wide field of candidates to choose from. In the Western Cape 416 wards are being contested in 25 municipalities. “A total of 106 political parties are competing, alongside 33 independent candidates. Of the 14 349 candidates, 4 502 are contesting the 452 proportional representation (PR) seats, while 9 847 are contesting the 416 ward seats,” the IEC said in a statement. In the City of Oaks the parties vying for seats in the municipal council are the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP), African Independent Congress (AIC), African National Congress (ANC), African Transformation Movement (ATM), Afrika Mayibuye Movement, Alliance of Citizens for Change, Cape Independence Party (CapeXit), Democratic Alliance (DA), Democratic New Civic Association, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Good, National Coloured Congress, Pan Africanist Congress of Azania, Patriotic Alliance (PA), People’s Democratic Movement (PDM), South African Communist Party,

Umkhonto Wesizwe, and Freedom Front Plus (FF+). Of the 18 competing parties the DA, ANC, EFF, Good, ACDP, PA, PDM, and the FF+ have a presence in the current council. Locally campaigning is in full swing with door-to-door engagements and various party meetings being held from Klapmuts to Jamestown. Most parties have also released their manifestos with party promises being made to would-be voters. Many a current councillor is again on the ballot for the upcoming LGE but there are also a few “returning” councillors who have now found a new home. Among these are former DA councillors Siegfried Schäfer and former executive deputy mayor Mynard Slabbert. Both have joined councillor JC MacFarlane at the FF+. Slabbert officially resigned from the DA last month (“Slabbert breaks away from the DA,” Eikestadnuus, 27 August). Part of the IEC’s candidate nomination and verification process identifies candidates who have not complied with Commissions rules and regulations will not be taking part in the LGE. Provincial electoral officer Michael Hendrickse said the scale of candidates’ participation reflects the importance of LGE. “This shows South Africans want to actively participate in decisions that affect them. Meanwhile, the IEC will continue with its preparations to ensure that the elections are conducted in a free, fair and credible manner,” Hendrickse said.

Tablet donation to enhance hospital operations The Stellenbosch Provincial Hospital are two tablets richer thanks to a donation by the Rotary Club of Stellenbosch. Yaël Malgas Daar is talle oogies by Brückner de Villiers Primêr wat nou beter kan sien danksy die Stellenbosch Rotariër-klub en Van Neel Oogkundiges se gemeenskapsuitreik. Myrtle van Neel het onlangs sowat 100 leerders van dié Idasvallei-laerskool se oë getoets. Die leerders wat dit die nodigste het, het dan ’n splinternuwe brilletjie gekry, danksy die Rotariërs. “Die kinders sien letterlik die wêreld in ’n ander lig,” sê die Rotariër Chris van der Leij. Benewens die verskeie skole in Kayamandi, Cloetesville en Idasvallei wat deur die plaaslike klub bygestaan is, is soortgelyke uitreike ook in Macassar gedoen – hier waar die skoolhoof, James Isaacs, en Van der Leij jare gelede ontmoet het. Isaacs sê die program is beslis ’n aanwins vir die leerders, omdat talle van hul ouers nie ’n nuwe bril kan bekostig nie. Die skool identifiseer eers leerders wat moontlik ’n bril nodig het. Dan word die

oogtoetse pasella deur Van Neel gedoen. Sy sê dit is verbassend hoeveel leerders werklik ’n bril nodig het, maar nooit die geleentheid kry om een aan te skaf nie. “Sommige leerders gaan deur hul hele skoolloopbaan sonder ’n bril, maar dan het hulle dit só nodig. Hierdie projek het ons reeds in 2019 begin en werk saam met die Rotariërs, want ons moet help. Jy sal verbaas wees hoe swak sommige van die leerders se oë is. Indien nodig verwys ons ook die leerders na spesialiste en leer hulle oogoefeninge,” verduidelik Van Neels. Leerders soos Cayden Wenn (10) het by die gemeenskapsprojek baat gevind en sê hy kan sy skoolwerk baie beter sien. “Ek kan ver sien, maar wanneer ek nie my bril aan het nie, dan kan ek nie goed sien nie. Dan lyk alles vaal,” vertel dié gr.4-leerder. Geina Lalo (11) het ook haar eerste bril gekry – ’n spoggerige deurskynende pienkraam bril. “Ek kon nie naby sien nie, maar nou kan ek alles sien. Ek kan ook baie beter die bord voor die klas sien,” sê sy. Dié langtermyn Rotariër-projek beoog om uiteindelik nog leerders te help sien.

A conversation that began with adolescent sexual-health research, music and the question “Are you thinking with your brain or your hormones?” is moving from information to practical community action. Last Thursday (17 September), singersongwriter, nurse and Stellenbosch University (SU) MNurs graduate Marthie Hauptfleisch presented “Hey, Brain” at StellCare in Ida’s Valley. The gathering brought together people working across the community system: StellCare and e’Bosch Heritage Project, counsellors, nurses, social workers, final-year SU social-work students, social-auxiliary workers, diversion and parenting services, courts, the Social Employment Fund, Social Development and GBV coordination as well as NPOs and participants from Stellenbosch, Paarl, Wellington and Melkbosstrand. SU theology students were also represented. The session took Hauptfleisch’s research on adolescent sexual-health knowledge, practices and influences out of the thesis into a practical community conversation. Participants explored menstrual education, popular contraceptives and longer-acting contraception. Tools were demonstrated rather than simply discussed. Music was deliberately part of the conversation. Hauptfleisch performed her “Hey, Brain” song and introduced a new one-minute one, “Ten (Count Them Condoms)”, written on Thursday 10 September during the FAWM Song Sprint, a week dedicated to music. The playful song turns a pack of 10 condoms into a memorable counting exercise, using humour to make an uncomfortable subject easier to talk about. “Knowledge is not enough,” said Hauptfleisch. “My research showed me young people can know the facts and still struggle to use that knowledge when decisions are made. ‘Hey Brain’ is about creating the conversation between knowledge, choices and real life.” CONNECTING THOSE WHO’VE MADE INFORMED REPRODUCTIVE CHOICES The presentation included findings from Hauptfleisch’s research in the greater

Stellenbosch area and then moved into discussion on how the important information, tools and conversations could be given to the communities. The event also launched the next phase: Happy Man, Happy Woman, Happy Families – Get a Permanent Smile, sometimes described as the “Happy Bus”. The initiative aims to connect people who have made informed reproductive choices with practical access to services. “Happy Man” focuses on vasectomy and the permanent smile; “Happy Woman” includes permanent contraception as well as a “five-year smile” through long-acting contraception such as the Mirena/IUCD. The momentum was immediate; the day after the event, confirmation was received for a pilot service day at Cloetesville Community Health Centre World Vasectomy Day (20 November). The current plan provides capacity for around 20 IUCD insertions and six vasectomies between 09:00 and 13:00, supported by the participating healthcare team. StellCare will assist with community recruitment, while the project covers information, choice, registration, referral, transport, procedure and follow-up. The Stellenbosch Thuthuzela Centre has also confirmed its willingness to participate.

Toyota Stellenbosch Woordfees 2026

‘Moffie’ kyk na verlede se letsels Die veelbekroonde teaterproduksie Moffie is as deel van die Toyota Stellenbosch Woordfees op die planke van die Adam Small-ouditorium in Stellenbosch te sien. Ses vertonings word van Saterdag 3 tot Dinsdag 6 Oktober en van Saterdag 10 tot Sondag 11 Oktober oor twee blokke aangebied. Ná ’n vyfster-wêreldpremière in Londen en ’n hoogs aangeskrewe Suid-Afrikaanse debuut by die Baxterteater verlede September, keer dié eenmanvertoning vir ’n beperkte seisoen na Suid-Afrikaanse verhoë terug. Die verhoogverwerking, gebaseer op André Carl van der Merwe se roman, word deur ’n uitmuntende Suid-Afrikaanse span in ’n kragtige en aangrypende verhaal oor liefde, oorlewing en identiteit onder die Apartheidsregering tot lewe gebring. Greg Karvellas behartig die regie en vervaardiging van die produksie en dit word ten volle deur die Common Humanity Arts Trust gefinansier. Philip Rademeyer was verantwoordelik vir die verwerking van André Carl van der Merwe se roman. Die bekroonde akteur David Viviers vertolk die rol van Nicholas van der Swart, ’n jong dienspligtige wat sy identiteit noodgedwonge moet verberg en wie se aangrypende reis die hart van die verhaal vorm. TERUG IN TYD Moffie speel af in 1979, teen die agtergrond van Apartheid Suid-Afrika. Die Suid-Afrikaanse regering se verklaarde doel was om Suider-Afrika teen kommunisme te beskerm en sodoende die Afrikanervolk, Christenskap en die sogenaamde vrye wêreld te verdedig. Om dit te bewerkstellig, was soldate nodig en is die 17-jarige Nicholas vervolgens in die Suid-Afrikaanse Weermag ingelyf. Hy bevind hom in die donker hart van ’n regime wat absolute gelykvormigheid, “manlikheid”, rassisme en onverdraagsaamheid vereis. Nicholas word gekonfronteer met die vrees om as ’n “moffie” bestempel te word en met die voortdurende angs dat sy identiteit ontbloot sal word. Die toneelstuk ondersoek deur hierdie lens die vernietigende gevolge van giftige manlikheid en trauma.

Die verhaal wys daarop dat die emosionele wonde van daardie onstuimige tyd – dekades ná SA se demokrasie – steeds voortleef en nooi gehore om na te dink oor die letsels wat die verlede nagelaat het en oor die invloed daarvan op die hede en die toekoms. Moffie kom by die Woordfees aan met hoë lof van kritici uit SA sowel as die VK. A festival of local art awaits Strauss & Co returns to the Toyota Stellenbosch Woordfees from Saturday 3 to Sunday 11 October with exhibitions, talks, valuation days, coffee raves and a benefit auction. The auction house is a proud silver sponsor of the spring arts festival. “Since its beginnings in 2000 as an all-night literary event at Stellenbosch University (SU), Woordfees has grown into one of Africa’s largest arts festivals,” says director Caro Wiese. “Cultural institutions of this scale require sustained support. A flourishing arts sector is a clear measure of a society’s wellbeing.” Following its 2025 success, Strauss & Co again divides activities between Oude Leeskamer and the Stellenbosch Town Hall. Oude Leeskamer serves as curatorial hub, centred on a century-spanning stilllife survey and an art jewellery exhibition by 15 South African practitioners. The town hall hosts talks and the fifth Woordfees Benefit Auction. Curated by Jo Voysey, Anything but Static brings together more than 60 works

spanning painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography and video. The Rotary Club of Stellenbosch made a splash in the Eerste River this past weekend, where the ducks of local businesses raced to be crowned the winner of inaugural Stellenbosch Corporate Duck Race. Stellenbosch businesses were invited to swop the boardroom for the riverbank and the locals showed up. Each business purchased a duck to the tune of R2 500, decorated it and sent it along the river at Spier Wine Farm on Saturday (19 September) at Spier. Hosted by the Rotary Club of Stellenbosch, the event was held for the benefit of the Stellenbosch Gender-based violence (GBV) Centre. The centre in Ida’s Valley is 24-hour facility providing free, comprehensive care to survivors of gender-based violence. Opened in February 2024, the centre is a one-stop for all necessary services. More than 1 200 persons have been helped since its establishment, with more than 40% of those helped under the age of 11 years, explained centre manager Carol van Zyl. Supporters of Stellenbosch Hospice gathered in the hall of the Ida’s Valley Volkskerk for the organisation’s firstever high tea on Sunday 6 September. The event brought together 190 guests for an afternoon filled with beautiful tables, delicious treats, music and laughter. “The day was about much more than fundraising; it was about people coming together because they care,” said Jennilee Geduld, general manager of Stellenbosch Hospice. “A heartfelt ‘thank you’ to every table host who opened their tables and their hearts, every guest who bought a ticket and Jesmone Damons, who contributed towards the music and helped create such a special atmosphere.” Hospice is about more than illness and loss, Geduld stressed. “It is about dignity, compassion and walking alongside patients and families when they need support most. The funds raised will help Stellenbosch Hospice continue providing this care within our community. The high tea reminded us that sometimes a small act of kindness can become something much bigger – a ticket becomes support, support becomes care, care becomes comfort, and comfort reminds someone that they are not alone.”

VDE vereer sy beste spelers ná uitdagende seisoen Die Van der Stel-Evergreensrugbyklub (VDE) het voorverlede Saterdag (12 September) sy bekeruitdeling in die klubsaal gehou om die spelers wat vanjaar in Superliga A die wa deur die drif getrek het te vereer. Dit was ’n moeilike jaar vir die klub, maar die klub se junior- en seniorspelers wat ná aftrede weer op die veld gedraf het, het gehelp dat die klub sy ligaverpligtinge nakom, ondanks die groot tellings wat teen die span opgestel is. VDE speel in 2027 in Superliga B en sal weer daarvandaan bou. Die aand se bekerwenners was (agter van links) Jerome Daniels (spelers se speler van die jaar), Justin van Ryneveld (eerstespanvoorspeler van die jaar), Winston Krediet (tweedespanvoorspeler van die jaar), Matthew Cupido (eerstespanvoorspeler van die jaar), Liyabona James (eerstespanspeler van die jaar) en Wade Ezau (o.20-speler van die jaar). In the Senior Olympic division for Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) Stellenbosch’s Travis Giles, a third-year BSc Computer Science student, placed first overall and first on floor, pommel, rings and high bar and second on parallel bars. Ellard Rademeyer, a first-year student of BEng Mechanical Engineering, placed second overall and first on vault and parallel bars, second on pommel and third on floor and rings. The Stellenbosch women also represented the Maties well. On the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) side first year Bsc Human Life Sciences Biology student, Mardean Harris placed first overall in level

9 (14 year and over). Mardean also came first on bar and vault and second on beam and floor. Joining Mardean on the podium was Chantezé Coetzer whose stellar performance landed her second place overall. Travis and Mardean will now represent the Western Cape at the National Gymnastics Championships, which started today (Thursday 24 September) to Sunday 4 October in Centurion, Gauteng. Earlier this year Travis was the first Western Cape gymnast in two decades to be selected for the MAG Protea team. He was part of the artistic gymnastics team who placed third on the podium at the 19th Artistic Gymnastics African Championships in Cameroon in April. In that competition, Travis placed ninth in all round, fourth in pommel and sixth in both rings and parallel bar.

he winners of the Top 8 (President’s Cup) and Bottom 8 (Challenger’s Cup) in Super League A, B and C were determined at City Park in Athlone on Saturday 19 September. Teams from the greater Stellenbosch who were in action in the finals were victorious in all the matches they were involved in. Kylemore RFC were the winners of the SLC President’s Cup, after they clinched a nail-biting but deserving 29-26 win over neighbours Pniël Villagers. The stage was set for an enticing duel, and both sides certainly delivered as the

Die klubkrieketseisoen in die Boland is om die draai en die Stellenbosch-krieketklub (SKK) begin reeds vroeg om sy spelers vir kompetisie voor te berei. Die klub het die afgelope Sondag (20 September) in ’n vriendskaplike wedstryd op die Idasvallei-sportterrein besoek van die Hottentots Holland-krieketklub (HHKK) ontvang. Die roes van die tuisspan, wat vanjaar in die Premierliga van Boland Krieket speel, was duidelik te sien en hulle het gesukkel om met die kolf en bal aan die gang te kom. Tog was dit ’n geleentheid vir die plaaslike span om ná maande van geen spel weer op die veld te kom. Die besoekers, wat in die 1B-liga van die Westelike Provinsie speel, het die 35-boulbeurtwedstryd met 53 lopies beklink. HHKK het die loot gewen en besluit om eerste te kolf. Die SKK-aanvangsbouler Lishan Meyer het in die eerste beurt getref en het die openingskolwer Rashaad Salie vir ’n nulletjie terug kleed-

kamer toe gestuur. Daarna het die tuisspan se dissipline met die bal hulle in die steek gelaat en die HHKK-kolwers het hul kolfbeurt terug op koers gebring.
