oeie watergehalte vir die Dwarsrivier word deur ’n spanpoging gelewer – en wanneer die gemeenskap, die regering en kundiges saamwerk. Dit was die gevolgtrekking tydens die department van water en sanitasie (DWS) se besoek aan Pniël die afgelope Maandag (20 Julie). Die besoek was deel van die DWS se veldtog vir skoon riviere. Talle Pniël-inwoners sê dié vergadering moes lankal reeds geskied het, aangesien die gemeenskap al vir jare kommer oor die watergehalte opper. “Die meeste van ons hier het in die rivier leer swem. Ons het goue vissies en ander visse gevang en vandag is al daardie spesies bedreig,” sê Grechard Petersen, Dwarsrivier-inwoner en proporsionele raadslid van die Stellenbosch-munisipaliteit.

Petersen is lid van die Dwarsrivier-omgewingsbewaringsprojek wat twee jaar gelede gestig is. Met dié projek werk lede van die gemeenskap om die rivier skoon en gesond te hou. Petersen vertel hoe die rivier oor die jare weens gronderosie, storms en die uitvloei van die nabygeleë pompstasie verander het. Kennisgewingborde langs die
rivier verbied swem. Tog hou dit nie almal uit die water nie. Petersen sê die rivier kan ’n dryfkrag vir die vallei wees – indien dit in ’n gesonde toestand gehou word. Die verwydering van bome ’n paar jaar gelede het die rivieroewer kwesbaar vir erosie gemaak. Inwoners wat voorheen met Eikestadnuus oor oorstroming in Riverside-straat gesels het, is
ook op die vergadering genoem (“Riool gee Pniël kopseer,” 9 Oktober 2025). Dit gebeur gereeld dat dreine en mangate in die strate langs die rivier oorstroom en rioolwater na die Dwarsrivier vloei. Petersen sê oorstromings van rioolwater vloei na die stormwaterstelsel en dan in die rivier. Stellenbosch se munisipale bestuurder, Geraldine Mettler, sê beamptes het gevind dat baie Stellenbossers hul stormwater na die rioolnetwerk laat uitloop wat tot oorstroming van die stelsel lei. WATERGEHALTE NAGAAN Die DWS het die gemeenskap aangespoor om saam met die nasionale departement en die munisipaliteit te werk om na die Dwarsrivier, wat die gemeenskap as deel van die dorpie se erfenis beskou, om te sien. Ntombizanele Bila-Mupariwa, hoof van waterwese vir die WesKaap, sê samewerking sal die
sleutel tot sukses wees. Sy het ook saam met Bentley Engelbrecht, ’n DWS-wetenskaplike, monsters van die Dwarsrivier geneem. Engelbrecht het verduidelik “goggas”, spesifiek akwatiese makro-ongewerweldes, word bestudeer om die watergehalte te bepaal. Monsters word vir die afgelope 18 jaar kwartaalliks in die Dwarsrivier geneem. Maandag het hy die watergehalte as bogemiddeld bestempel. Dr. Christoff Truter, lid van die Universiteit Stellenbosch (US) se waterinstituut, en sy studente het op hul beurt hul water-navorsing verduidelik. Hulle het monsters van beide die Dwarsrivier en Franschhoek-gebied geneem en die inligting gedeel. Deel van hul monitering is om regstreekse data te versamel. Indien die gemeenskap meer wil doen om ’n goeie watergehalte te verseker, is die US-span bereid om inwoners op te lei om self monitering te doen.

Suspects in the dock for FH murders Four suspects have been arrested following a string of killings and violence in Franschhoek.
Polisie vind drank van miljoene rand in Plankenbrug Onwettige drank ter waarde van R12 miljoen is verlede Donderdag (16 Julie) in ’n gesamentlike optrede deur die polisie, die Wes-Kaapse Drankraad en die doeane-eenheid van die Suid-Afrikaanse Inkomstediens (Sars) gekonfiskeer. Die operasie het gelei tot die vonds in Plankenbrug nadat die drankraad inligting ontvang het dat dié perseel as ’n stoorplek vir die drank dien. Die perseel is fyn dopgehou voor die klopjag verlede week uitgevoer is. Die drank is in die besit van die doeane-eenheid. Niemand is nog in verband met die voorval in hegtenis geneem nie.

Suspected robbers tracked down, arrested Two suspects will appear in Stellenbosch Magistrates’ Court after they were arrested in possession of an unlicensed firearm on Sunday (19 July). According to Stellenbosch police, members of the Public Order Police unit were conducting crime prevention patrols in Kayamandi when they received a complaint of a business robbery at Kayamandi Mall around 09:30. On their arrival at the shopping centre, the officers were informed that the robbery suspects had gone to Slaptown, Cloetesville, but police found two suspects in a shack in Lamla Street in Kayamandi. Upon searching the men and premises, the police found a Junior Black Firearm with 3.5 mm printed on the silver chamber with no magazine, as well as an imitation weapon (gas gun). The two were arrested for the possesion of an unlicensed firearm and will appear in court once charged.

The local police along with various other provincial policing units traced suspects to the various extortion crimes in Langrug and Groendal over the last few months. The operations, conducted last week, led to the arrest of the four suspects, provincial police confirmed on Friday 17 July. This comes after spaza shop owners in Langrug were gunned downed with Franschhoek police connecting the killings to extortion (“Spate of killings in F’hoek”, Eikestadnuus, 16 July). Since the start of the year, Eikestadnuus has reported on various shootings and robberies in Franschhoek’s neighbourhoods. In March, eight suspects were arrested following three separate robberies at local spaza shops. Two separate fatal shootings were reported in Langrug last week. Constable Ndakhe Gwala, a provincial police spokesperson, confirmed the Franschhoek police responded to reports of a shooting at a spaza shop in Lavender Street around 19:30 on Monday 13 July. “On arrival, they found two men who had sustained gunshot wounds. They were transported to a medical facility for treatment and were later declared deceased,” Gwala said. Two more people were shot and initially critically injured, but later succumbed to their injuries. On Tuesday 14 July, another shooting claimed the life of a 37-year-old man. “Franschhoek police responded to reports of a shooting in Mazaleni Street, Langrug, on 14 July at 18:30. Upon arrival, they found a white Chevrolet bakkie in the street. “Inside was the body of a 37-year-old man. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was declared dead by medical personnel on the scene. A case of murder was registered for investigation. The motive for the attack is unknown at this stage,” Gwala explained. In light of the ongoing violence, the DA demanded that Franschhoek police receive additional support to address the crimes. “Five people have lost their lives between 13 and 14 July,” Reginald Pheiffer, Ward 1 councillor, said in a statement. “Residents deserve to live and work in an environment where they are safe from intimidation, organised crime and violent attacks.” He confirmed that the
party had started a petition calling for immediate police intervention to address the killings. Councillor Grechard Petersen of the GOOD party added his voice to the demand for intervention. “The triple murder in Jakaranda Street in May and the subsequent fatal shootings in Langrug were not isolated incidents. They form part of a disturbing pattern that points to a growing safety crisis in parts of Groendal. Residents deserve more than sympathy after each shooting; they deserve a coordinated response that prevents the next tragedy,” he urged. Petersen further called on authorities to create a multi-agency safety intervention to address the violence, adding that the response from police, Law Enforcement and community-policing structures should be focused and intelligence-driven. “Franschhoek cannot continue to exist in two opposing realities: one of prosperity and tourism and another of recurring violence, fear and insecurity. The safety of Groendal residents must be treated with the same urgency and importance as the safety of every other resident in Stellenbosch Municipality.” According to a community member, who spoke on condition of anonymity out of fear, the extortion-related killings have been occurring for sometime. “This has been going on for months now and nothing is being done. Nearly all the shootings that have happened in Franschhoek recently have to do with extortion. “There are two extortion groups that have been threatening business owners in Franschhoek for the past few months. The thing is, these extortionists are not even from this town,” the resident said. The community member made further shocking claims, saying that local police are aware of the extortionists and are allegedly in cahoots with them. “The police are doing nothing to catch the people behind the recent spate of shootings. [Last] Tuesday night’s shooting had to do with the two extortion groups fighting over territory. “One group is from Paarl and we believe the other group is from Cape Town. The group from Cape Town was behind Monday night’s shooting, and the Paarl group retaliated on Tuesday,” the resident claimed. The four suspects, aged between 21 and 30, appeared in the Paarl Magistrates’ Court this week.

Run4Wings draf weer vir meisies Yaël Malgas Die Cloetesviller Keith Present vat vanjaar weer die pad om sanitêre doekies vir Vrouemaand in te samel. Present is lid van die Cloetesville-sokkerklub se uitvoerende span en het verlede jaar 129 km van Stellenbosch tot Robertson en terug afgelê vir die Run4Wings-insameling. “Dit was grootliks die sukses van verlede jaar se Run4Wings wat my inspireer het om weer die projek aan te pak,” sê Present. Die 34-jarige langasem sal op Maandag 24 Augustus weer die pad vat – hierdie keer na George en terug. Hy sal op Sondag 30 Augustus in die Eikestad aankom. Volgens Relston Lakay, die voorsitter van die Cloetesville-sokkerklub, sluit Present se jaarlikse tog in by die klub se strewe om meer as net sokker aan die gemeenskap te bied. “Hierdie is Keith se projek en ons as klub sluit net daarby aan – hy moet al die krediet hiervoor kry. Ons is baie bewus van ons sosiale verantwoordelikheid in die gemeenskap en dit is een van die pilare waarop ons klub gevestig is. Aanvanklik het ons gedink Run4Wings is ’n grap, maar Keith het dit ’n werklikheid gemaak wat trefkrag vir meisies in skole gehad het,” sê Lakay. Present het drie jaar gelede die projek begin. Verlede jaar was die eerste keer wat hy besluit het om ’n wedloop aan te pak. Die 2025-aflewering was só suksesvol dat Present en die klub sanitêre doekies aan 11 skole kon skenk. “Ek het van ’n pa gehoor wat een dag sy werk moes verlaat omdat sy dogter onverwags haar maandstonde by die skool gekry het. Die skool het nie sanitêre doekies vir haar gehad nie.
Dit het veroorsaak dat haar pa ’n halwe dag van werk moes verloor en sy, as ’n gr.11-leerder, ’n halwe dag van skool verloor het. Gevalle soos hierdie maak my net meer vasberade om my deel te doen sodat geen meisies skool moet mis as gevolg van ’n gebrek aan die nodige higiëneprodukte nie,” sê Present. Present het reeds in Januarie met voorbereiding vir sy tog begin. Vandeesmaand het hy sy stamina op die proef gestel en onlangs van Stellenbosch na Kuilsrivier en terug gehardloop. Die verste wat hy tot dusver afgelê het was 65 km. “My kop is in die regte plek en dit is deel van die uitdaging. Vir die afgelope drie maande was my oefening spesifiek vir die tog. Indien ek gereeld stop, ’n piesang en ’n broodrolletjie kan eet, is ek dan weer gereed vir die langpad. Mense lag wanneer hulle hoor ek eet net ’n piesang en rolletjie, saam met my water natuurlik, maar hulle verstaan nie die voedingswaarde van dié kombinasie nie – dit werk vir my.” Present pak die pad na George saam met Colin Roberts aan. Lakay en nog ’n lid van die sokkerklub sal saam as die drawwers se ondersteuningspan reis. Die groep se eerste stop sal in Caledon wees. Dan volg Swellendam en Riversdal, gevolg deur die laaste oorslaap in Mosselbaai voor die groep in George aankom. Lakay en Present bedank al hul borge wat tot dusver die projek ’n sukses gemaak het. Present sal vir die tweede jaar in Joma-oefenklere sy tog aanpak. Borgskappe is ook ontvang van Point S. Kuilsrivier, die plaaslike tak van Wellness Warehouse, KwikSpar Stone Square Welgevonden en SuperSpar Grabouw, wat ook afsetpunte vir skenkings is. Casting on for the vulnerable among us Shincheonji Volunteers teamed up with elderly community members at the Klapmuts Clubhouse Knitting Day and Winter Drive last month. The group will meet for another Knitting Day on Friday 31 July, in recognition of Mandela Day. A statement from Shincheonji Volunteers said the group had, through its 2026 initiatives, committed itself to upholding dignity for all, including vulnerable and elderly detainees worldwide. The organisation is the winner of the SA Heroes Award for Community Service for 2025 and the Icons of Africa Award for Best Volunteer Organisation this year. It stated that the late Tata Madiba’s legacy extended far beyond 67 minutes of service; it referred to a lifelong commitment to compassion, service and ubuntu, upholding the dignity of another person, of all people.

World Cup dream realised Avril Fillies “An amazing, once-in-a-lifetime experience.” This is how Lorenzo Claassen from Cloetesville described his month-long stay as a volunteer at the FIFA World Cup in Mexico City. “I had the privilege to not only to represent South Africa at the World Cup in Mexico City, but also Africa, after being selected by the FIFA Community Leaders Programme as a volunteer,” Claassen explains. “What an amazing and once-in-alifetime experience, not only to broaden my overseas travel but also meeting people from other countries and experiencing the cuisine of Mexico first hand. “I was looking forward to see the performances of Bafana Bafana in a World Cup after we qualified in 1998, 2002 and 2010 when we hosted it here on home soil. Simphewe Tshabalala scored the first goal against Mexico in 2010, the same team they played in the opening match of the tournament this year.” Four volunteers were chosen by FIFA as volunteers in Mexico City: Natalia Catalina Hernandez and David Osorio from Colombia, Aldin Vojvoda from Germany and Claassen representing South Africa. The two other African volunteers from Uganda and Kenya did not make it due to visa problems. SNEAK PEAK “The country I was looking forward to see in action was England, specifically Jude Bellingham, a very good player. We all know what he did to secure the semi-final spot against Argentina, scoring two goals against Norway,” Claassen says.

“Being a volunteer, you are not allowed to watch games in person, only on television in the Volunteer Centre, but I had a sneak peak to see the English players in person against Mexico as part of the shift when they locked horns. I sneaked in after half-time to watch my hero play and that was definitely one of the highlights of the World Cup.” There were many other highlights but the most memorable was the rehearsal two days before the opening match. “The volunteers had the privilege to step onto the pitch as players during rehearsals and I sat in the locker room that would be used by Bafana Bafana. “I stepped out as a ‘Bafana player’ on the pitch and sang our national anthem in front of an empty stadium as a South African. In the game between Mexico and Ecuador, I was the flagbearer of Mexico on the pitch and met the Mexican superstar Radamal Falcao at our

hotel. Another highlight was the overall feeling of being in the stadium on my shift when a match was being played and the interaction with fans from around the globe,” Claassen says. PASSION TO PROMOTE SOCCER Soccer was his first love growing up in Stellenbosch when he received his provincial colours as an under-15 and under-17 player, before he switched to rugby at Blakes and Van der Stel-Evergreens rugby clubs. The past five years Claassen has worked as a coach at Training4Changes and has been involved in projects at local schools. “I have passion to promote soccer at Dorothea School in Cloetesville, where I have hosted weekly training sessions with the learners. I like working with kids with disabilities; my involvement in the community is my journey with

soccer.” His experience in Mexico City was “unbelievable”, not only being there, but the welcoming nature and hospitality of the locals. Initially they were lost in translation as Claassen cannot speak Spanish and many locals are unfamiliar with English, but they soon found common ground. “The cuisine was amazing; I tried many dishes and the locals also recommended to try street vendors, but I am not adventurous when it comes to food, so I mostly stuck to the tacos,” he relates. “The way the other three volunteers handled situations in their own way was a new experience. I was amazed to see how people from different countries can come together to work for a common goal. The outstanding thing about an event like the World Cup is that you must be ready for anything, as changes on the day can be made in minutes, whether you planned it to perfection, you must be ready for any disappointment, rescheduling or adaptation. You must always be ready to walk the extra mile,” he says.

S’bosch-hospitaal weer in kollig Yaël Malgas Die familie van juffrou Emilia George was geskok en hartgebroke gelaat nadat dié afgetredene onlangs dood is nadat sy die Stellenbosch-hospitaal besoek het. Volgens Shirlene Witbooi is haar tante verlede maand na die plaaslike hospitaal gehaas nadat sy kort van asem was. “Dit was alles so onwerklik. Sy het in al haar jare nooit nodig gehad om ’n hospitaal te besoek nie, maar die een keer wat sy gegaan het, is sy oorlede,” vertel Witbooi. George is op Maandag 29 Junie na die hospitaal gejaag nadat sy van borspyne gekla het. “Sy is vir ’n vermoedelik dreigende hartaanval behandel, maar weens sekere toetse het die eindresultaat ná X-strale, verwys dat sy met pulmonêre edeem gediagnoseer is. Juffrou George, wat byna 74 jaar oud was, is deur ’n senior dokter huis toe gestuur, waaroor ons as familie nie tevrede was nie. Ons was nog nie eens 10 minute by die huis nie toe sy weer nie kon asem kry nie. Ons het die ambulaans ontbied, wat nou nog nooit
opgedaag het nie. Die tweede keer nadat die ambulans nie opgedaag het nie, het ons self weer met haar hospitaal toe gejaag. Sy is deur ’n ander dokter gesien wat haar weer vir toetse gestuur het, maar sy kon nie verstaan hoe Juffrou George huis toe gestuur is en so siek kon word nie. Die dokter was baie bekommerd.” OP SUURSTOF Witbooi vertel haar tante is op suurstof geplaas, omdat sy “reeds baie suurstof verloor het”. Volgens Witbooi was sy onder die indruk dat alles onder beheer was en George nou die nodige behandeling ontvang en het besluit om saam met nog ’n familielid ’n paar benodigdhede vir haar tante by haar woning gaan haal, in geval George in die hospitaal moes oornag. Ná ’n oproep van die hospitaal het Witbooi en haar niggie teruggekeer na die hospitaal, waar hulle deur ’n verpleegster ingewag is. “Daar kry ons die skokkende nuus dat my tannie gesterf het.” George het vir byna vyf dekades by die Laerskool Rietenbosch in Cloetesville skoolgehou. Dié skool het haar as “nede rig” beskryf en het ná haar dood gesê sy
het ’n liefde vir almal gehad en “was ’n inspirasie vir elkeen van ons”. “Juffrou George sal vir ewig in elkeen by Rietenbosch se harte bly. Ons innige meegevoel gaan uit aan die familie. Mag die familie omvou word deur God se kosbare liefde in hul tyd van rou,” het die skool op sy sosialemediablad laat hoor. Witbooi sê haar familie se emosies was ná George se afsterwe “onbeheerbaar” en hulle het die hospitaalpersoneel onmiddellik laat weet hulle vereis antwoorde oor George se dood. Familielede het op Woensdag 1 Julie met die hospitaal se bestuur vergader, wat volgens Witbooi glo erken het daar was nalatigheid aan hulle kant. Culpable homicide probe after head-on collision claims two Two people tragically died in an accident involving a truck and a car on the R45 outside Franschhoek on Tuesday evening (21 July). According to local paramedic Kurt Maske, several patients were treated on the scene, with two fatalities, two with critical injuries and the rest moderate to serious injuries. The Franschhoek First Responders were also on the scene and helped in providing
medical assistance. The truck was transporting agricultural workers. Provincial police spokesperson Captain Frederick van Wyk said: “Preliminary investigations indicate that it was a head-on collision between a light motor vehicle travelling from Franschhoek, which collided with a truck travelling to Franschhoek on the R45. The middle-aged driver of the light motor vehicle died on the scene due to injuries sustained, as well
as one passenger who was sitting on the back of the truck, which was carrying 28 other workers of a nearby farm. Five occupants of the truck were taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment.” Franschhoek police have since opened a culpable homicide investigation. On its Facebook page, Stellenbosch Municipality confirmed the fatal accident on Tuesday evening. “Stellenbosch Municipality is aware of a tragic motor vehicle
accident that occurred on the R45 near Paserene Wine Farm outside Franschhoek. The incident involved a head-on collision between a motor vehicle and a truck,” the post read. Shortly after the accident, traffic services implemented a stop-and-go traffic system to regulate traffic. Time to cheers to 55 years Stellenbosch Wine Routes marks 55 years of championing South African wine tourism and the wines of Stellenbosch this year. The centrepiece of the occasion is Wine Town Stellenbosch, which unites wine producers, restaurants, accommodation establishments and visitors for nine days of exceptional wine and food experiences across the region from Saturday 25 July to Sunday 2 August. This year’s programme incorporates the anniversary through special experiences, collaborations and anniversary events. The event prides itself on pitching the broadest insight to Stellenbosch lifestyle to experienced connoisseurs, newcomers and everyone in between, and completely over-delivering on value. The programme offers experiences across the region, which culminates in the Stellenbosch Wine Festival, an all-inclusive walk-around tasting at the
historic town hall. On offer are specialised wine tours, workshops and curated vertical tastings as well as winemaker lunches and dinners, specials at restaurants and tastings hosted exclusively for the run of the event. Dorpskalender | Town calendar Classical ballet to mesmerise Cape Town City Ballet presents an evening of classical ballet at the Adam Small Theatre in Stellenbosch on Friday 31 July and Saturday 1 August, featuring highlights from Swan Lake and Raymonda. The programme opens with the second act of Swan Lake, set to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s celebrated score. On a moonlit lakeside the story of the swan queen, Odette, unfolds through some of classical ballet’s most recognisable choreography, including the corps de ballet of swans, the white swan pas de deux and the timeless image of ballet dancers in full flight. Come explore Japan through its film festival The 32nd Japanese Film Festival returns to Stellenbosch on Friday 24 and Saturday 25 July, with a selection of captivating Japanese films set to be screened at the Road House Cinema at the Neelsie Student Centre. Gold for Zara Ida’s Valley gymnast Zara Williams (8) has won three gold medals this year. In May she won gold at her club competition, while she again claimed gold at the Winelands District Competition, taking part in vault, floor, uneven bars,and beam. The Van Der Stel Gymnastics Club gymnast continued her gold streak at the Western Province Championships in Saldanha Bay in June. The little dynamite is working toward her dream of one day making it to the Olympics.

Maties paddler shows his mettle Joshua Glyn-Cuthbert, a member of the Stellenbosch/Maties Rowing Club, arrived at the 2026 Berg River Canoe Marathon as the form paddler of the Western Cape season, unbeaten in all four June build-up races on the 240 km course from Paarl to Velddrif. The 22-year-old Stellenbosch University electrical-engineering student carried the hopes of a new generation against 48-year-old Hank McGregor, a man with 14 Berg titles and more marathon world championship kayak crowns than anyone alive. Glyn-Cuthbert proved he belonged immediately. A lead quartet broke clear on Day 1 (Wednesday 15 July), and when Tom Lovemore swam and Msawenkosi Mtolo fell away, the race became a duel across the generations. Glyn-Cuthbert and McGregor crossed the line together, separated by a single second. On Day 2 the elapsed-time start let them paddle together, and McGregor was content to follow the younger man’s line through the tree-blocks and narrow channels. “Josh knows what he’s doing,” the champion admitted. “I’m in good hands.” After two days Glyn-Cuthbert sat second overall, within touching distance. Disaster struck for the young paddler on the 76-km Queen Stage on Friday 17 July. Roughly 20 km from the finish, in one of the most remote stretches of the route, he followed Jeremy Maher through a narrow gap in a tree.

Glyn-Cuthbert’s paddle caught the branches and snapped in half. “I took a few hard strokes and it just snapped right in half,” he said. Stranded in the wilderness, he lost more than 30 minutes. Leading woman Neriyah Dill offered him duct tape; a friendly farmer helped repair the shaft and he managed to limp home 15th on the stage, plunging from second to seventh overall. But his tenacity and fighting power were on full display on the final day. A powerful paddle saw Glyn-Cuthbert salvage fifth place overall, finishing third in the lead group, just under two minutes away from the podium. Notably he was the only paddler to pressure the eventual winner McGregor across the four days of racing.

ictories were recorded by three of the four rugby clubs from Stellenbosch and surrounds in action on Saturday (18 July), with Franschhoek, Pniël Villagers and Raithby Universals all walking away smiling following their league encounters. Franschhoek, the only local team in action in Super League A at the weekend, have clawed their way out of the top tier’s relegation zone following a narrow, hardfought 22-20 triumph over fellow stragglers Unimil at the Groendal Sports Ground. But maintaining their place in the safe zone will be difficult for the team from the valley, who prepare to face log leaders Villager at Brookside in Claremont this weekend (Saturday 25 July). Villagers have been in fine form this season, having lost only one of their 12 matches so far, so 12th placed Franschhoek may have a tough day on the pitch. But they managed to pull a rabbit from the hat when least expected, beating SU Maties earlier this year, so one cannot just write off the league newcomers as they desperately look to keep their spot in the top flight Meanwhile, Van der Stel-Evergreens, who are certain of their relegation to Super League B next season, will be back in action after a bye weekend. They travel to Kenilworth to take on another struggling team, Primrose, while SU Maties are still on their extended holiday break. In Super League C Pniël Villagers delivered a stellar performance to secure 20-33 victory over Busy Bee at Langa Stadium. The team from the Dwars River Valley tapped into their attacking arsenal to secure the bonus-point win over the hosts, the result allowing them to leap into third spot on the log (48 points). Along the R44, Raithby Universals again showed just how dangerous they are at home, putting up a valiant fight to claim a 39-29 victory over Eerste River. With another bonus-point win under their belt, RU now boast 30 log points and have moved to ninth place well clear of the drop zone.

There was misfortune for travelling Kylemore, who suffered a 39-29 defeat to league contenders Watsonia Warriors in Athlone. The loss means Kylemore, who collected a four-try bonus point, dropped to fourth place on the log, with 44 points, but they still have a game in hand over neighbours Pniël Villagers. SLC teams play at home, with Kylemore hosting last-placed Strand United, Pniël Villagers taking on Caledonian Roses and RU welcoming neighbours Strand RFC.
