From the former Anglican church in Khayamandi to the former Louiesenhof Cellar and now a state-of-the-art new school, Apex Stellenbosch have firmly putrootsdown in Stellenbosch.

The ApexEducation Group celebrated amilestone last weekwith the official openingofits local campus alongthe R304. Theprivate schoolhas ablending learning model with 100 learners per class, working independently onlinewith the help of an in-person teacherand teaching assistant.

“Visitors always ask ‘100?’and Ihave to explain ‘Yes,100 learnersper class. Would you liketovisit aclassroom?’” saidprincipal Robyn van de Rhede.

Although private, Apex schoolsare registeredwith theprovincial education department and followthe CAPS curriculum.

AccordingtoErnst Gouws, chairperson of Apex Education, the group’smission is to make quality education possiblefor all learners. “With Apex’s unique andinnovative learning model, where we take the best elements of technology, togetherwith stillgiving ourlearners in-person access to excellent teachers, we havebeenable to bring quality education at an affordableprice to the communities who need it most, andtoput the schoolsright in the middleofthose communities,” Gouws explained At full capacity, Apex Stellenbosch can accommodate1000 high-schoollearners and 700 inits primary school. Currently theschool offersGrade 4and 5, whilethe high school hasGrade8,9and 10 learners. The first matriculants willgraduate in 2028.

Although the first Apex schoolin Eerste River was established in collaborationwith public schools, Gouwssaid the real potential of Apex was in creatingindependent schools.

Funding from the Millennium Trust andthe Michael &Susan Dell Foundationmeant Apex could branch outfrom Eerste River to Stellenbosch. Aschool in Pinelands is on the booksfor this year.

During the campusopening,ApexEducation CEOJanaduPlooy announced plans to incorporate aprimaryschool model into Apex schools, the expansion of the Pinelands school andApex’s 10yeargrowth strategy.Vision 10/10/10 is aplantobuild10new schools,overthe next 10 years which willaccommodate 10000 learners annually

Locally, learnersare doing more than keeping up with their peers. During the department’s systemic test, ApexStellenbosch’s learnerssurpassedthe provincial average, as well as other local quintile 5 schools in both mathematics andlanguage provincial education minister David Maynier confirmed.

Du Plooysaid these results were not lucky or aonce-offeffort, butitwas achievedthrough discipline.“Nowwe knowwecan delivery education at a meaningfully lower cost point than what we believed possible untilnow andthis model hasthe potential to significantly increase the quality of education for thousands,” sheadded.

Vanjaar se fees bied iets vir almal metbesprekings, opvoerings en historiese terugblikke oor die Dwarsriviervallei en meer.

Volgens JanineMyburgh van die Pniël Erfenis- en Kultuurtrust word ’n groot gedeelte opgedra aan wyle dr. Diana Ferrus –nie net vanweë haar bydrae tot die Afrikaanse letterkunde nie, maar ook haar betrokkenheid by die fees sedert die stigting

Die eerste fees om Adam Small, die digter, skrywer, politikus en akademikus, se lewe en nalatenskap te vier, is in Februarie 2017 aangebied.

Vrydag se program vind in die plaaslike museum se teetuin plaas.
