A week of water woes

esidents across Kramat, Macassar Beach and Sandvlei faced yet another frustrating water outage on Monday (10 August), marking the latest setback in an ongoing infrastructure breakdown that sparked community protests and tyre burning late last week. A formal alert issued by the City of Cape Town at 09:00 on Monday revealed that maintenance teams from the Water and Sanitation Directorate were once again conducting emergency repairs on a valve along the 250 mm-diameter bulk pipeline feeding the Macassar Reservoir. Acknowledging the severe inconvenience caused by repeated supply losses, the City deployed emergency water tankers – one stationed at Beach Road in Kramat and another roaming Sandvlei – to deliver basic relief. Municipal officials advised residents to keep taps closed during the repair period and to flush outside taps for 30 seconds once water returned. Affected residents reported that water supply was restored by late afternoon. Reacting to the latest disruption, community leader Maryam Salie noted on Monday that residents had endured “Day 8 without water in less than a two-week cycle”. “We are opting for a long-term solution,” Salie said, and all formal communications had been lodged with authorities. “Happy Women’s Day to all the women who have always been in the forefront of fights over unforgiving exclusion.” The latest outage comes on the heels of escalating community outrage. Last Thursday (6 August) frustrated residents took to the streets and burnt tyres in protest over the persistent lack of basic-service delivery. The disruption on 10 August follows an earlier four-day outage, where water was only briefly restored last Tuesday evening (4 August), following a series of pipeline failures. Addressing criticism from local activists, including Salie and Christiaan Stewart, the Mayoral Committee member for Water and Sanitation, Zahid Badroodien, detailed a sequence of distinct incidents that have

dogged the same 250 mm bulk line, including faulty valves, pipe bursts and new leaks. “The City became aware of each incident as it occurred and dispatched maintenance teams to investigate and do the repairs.” He added that while the failures occurred within a short timeframe they involved separate incidents rather than a single unresolved fault. Despite the restoration of supply community representatives maintained that temporary repairs and water tankers were no longer acceptable. Badroodien confirmed the City is planning a permanent upgrade, with plans underway to replace the aging 250 mm water main feeding the reservoir, subject to funding availability. Community leaders reiterated they will continue pressing municipal authorities for formal engagements on broader, long-standing service-delivery concerns, including local connections to the nearby wastewater treatment facility.

natuurreservaat geleë is. Meyer het die belangrikheid van die brug binne konteks van die gemeenskap se behoeftes beklemtoon. Die voetbrug vervang die vorige struktuur, wat tydens oorstromings weggespoel is, en bied nou veilige toegang oor die Palmietrivier vir die gemeenskap en werkers in die bosbounywerheid. Dit verbind die Nuweberg-ingang in Viljoenspas met die Hottentots Hollandnatuurreservaat. Die projek het op 15 Mei verlede jaar begin en meer as 14 maande geneem om te voltooi. Die brug is ’n struktuur van staal en beton met versterkte betonfondasies vir die brugpilare oor die Palmietrivier en het ongeveer R4,6 miljoen gekos. Uitdagings het ingesluit dat geen swaar masjinerie op die terrein toegelaat is nie en alle materiaal moes met die hand vervoer word. Die span het ook gekamp en moes moeilike rotsformasies, swaar reënval, oorstromings en uitdagende toegang tot die terrein trotseer. Metho Spirit a cry from their hearts Yaseen Gaffar When the young rugby players of Somerset West Methodist Primary School stepped onto the turf at DHL Stadium to perform their war cry in front of the touring New Zealand All Blacks on Friday 31 July, they were doing far more than putting on a performance. They were carrying a 33-year-old legacy and completing a remarkable 30-year full circle. Affectionately known as the Metho Squirrels, the primary school learners delivered a powerful rendition of the Metho Spirit, their unique isiXhosa war cry, as part of the All Blacks’ “Welcome to Country” ceremony arranged by sports agency Moonsport. For the learners, standing face-to-face with international rugby icons was an unforgettable moment. It was the continuation of a story that began three decades ago. HISTORY RUNS DEEP While often referred to as a “haka” locally, the school’s leadership emphasises that the Metho Spirit is a deeply personal cultural tradition. “It is a cry from the heart,” explains Winston Baard, coordinator and head of rugby at Somerset West Methodist Primary. First created in 1993, the war cry was originally chanted in English before being translated into isiXhosa by the late Terrance Nduna, a former learner. Over the past 33 years, the Metho Spirit has been performed before matches, to welcome guests, as a farewell greeting, and during memorial services. “We were certainly inspired by the All Blacks, but what we have at Methodist Primary is our own, unique expression,” Baard relates. “The Metho Spirit is now 33 years old, and we maintain that it should never be commercialised.” CAPTURED IN TIME In the mid-1990s, a previous generation of Metho Squirrels famously performed

the war cry for the touring All Blacks at the Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West. Lyndon Julius, now the media and communications manager at the Sanlam Boland Kavaliers, was the learner who led the war cry that day 30 years ago. “We waited for hours outside the entrance of the Lord Charles Hotel,” Julius recalls. “The moment we saw the All Blacks’ bus, all the fatigue and hunger from waiting almost instantly left our bodies. I remember everyone and everything went quiet, and the next sound that was heard was my voice, shouting to get the 'haka' underway.” That performance set off a chain of events leading to a historic six-week tour to New Zealand in 1997, making Methodist Primary one of the first non-white South African primary schools to tour abroad. UNIFYING EFFECT The boys who performed in the 1990s have since gone on to become teachers, chartered accountants, engineers, lawyers and sports leaders. One former learner, Wilton Hindley, took the connection even further, mov-

ing to New Zealand where he currently serves as a professional firefighter. “The ‘haka’ is a sign of strength and unity,” Hindley says from New Zealand. “When I tell people here in New Zealand the story of doing the ‘haka’ for the All Blacks in 1996, their reaction is one of wonder. Due to the culture here, people understand the meaning and are deeply curious about how this cultural art reached a primary school in South Africa.” Preparing for the DHL Stadium performance required weeks of dedicated practice. At Methodist Primary, the

under-13A rugby team leads the war cry during training, with younger teams – affectionately known as the “Baby Squirrels” (under-7 to under-9) – following their lead. The current learners delivered a roaring rendition that left the All Blacks squad and coaching staff visibly moved and appreciative. “Standing on the field and seeing the All Blacks right in front of us was a feeling that is difficult to describe,” says Baard. “There were definitely nerves.” For Baard, walking the learners onto the field was an emotional milestone. “You realise that you are carrying something that started 33 years ago,” says Baard. “Thirty years from now, I hope the learners who performed in 2026 will look back and remember this moment in the same way that we look back at those who performed it in 1996. Legacy is about passing something meaningful from one generation to the next.” Julius adds some wise words to the current crop of players: “The moment of doing something so special lasts only for a short while, but the memories last longer. Hold firm to the values, principles and ideologies that you are taught as a Metho Squirrel, and never forget that a Squirrel never gives up.” From New Zealand, Hindley echoes that sentiment: “Kia Kaha – stay strong. Be confident, put your best foot forward and dream big. If you dare to dream, you can carve out the future you want.”

Somerset West Community Policing Forum (CPF) finally has new leadership after six months without an executive committee. Ellen Esau, who previously served as neighbourhood watch coordinator, has been elected as the forum's new chairperson, with Anthony Beer stepping into the role of deputy chairperson. Other committee members include Tony van Minnen (treasurer), Erna Wentzel (secretary), Louisa Lourens (deputy secretary), Dominic Eiman (project coordinator) and George Kruger (PRO). The election was held during a meeting at Somerset West Police Station last Wednesday (5 August), following the collapse of the previous leadership structure (“New CPF exco needed,” DistrictMail & Helderberg Gazette, 25 February). The previous leaders of the Somerset West CPF was elected during the forum's annual general meeting in November 2024. The committee was led by former

chairperson Dane Thomas (“Somerset West CPF welcomes new executive committee,” 4 December 2024). However, less than two years into their five-year term, Thomas resigned in January this year, citing overwhelming time demands from juggling church, business and family responsibilities alongside extensive CPF commitments. His decision came after two other executive committee members had already been suspended for being unable to attend meetings. This led to a call for residents of the Somerset West police precinct, aged 18 and older, to apply for a new CPF. Van Minnen is the only member from the previous executive committee to continue serving on the leadership structure. Somerset West police station commander Colonel Jacolize Fleischmann expressed her gratitude to the new CPF leadership and wished them well during their tenure. “The team brings a wealth of experience and they are looking forward to serving the broader community,” she said.

Crime in brief Operation Lockdown III yielded results in the Lwandle police precinct last Friday (7 August), as three suspects were arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and a prohibited fire arm, as well as the illegal possession of ammunition. Provincial police spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala says members of Operation Lockdown III received information about three armed suspects, driving a silver Ford Focus sedan and allegedly extorting businesses in Nomzamo area. “They spotted the vehicle at Xakia Street around 21:30,” she said. “One of the suspects attempted to flee with a plastic bag, but he was apprehended and two firearms were recovered along with 15 rounds of ammunition.” The three suspects, aged 22 to 24, were expected to appear at the Strand Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Tuesday 10 August). A 46-year-old man will appear in the Somerset West Magistrates’ Court following his arrest on firearm related charges last Thursday (6 August). Acting on a tip-off, officers from Somerset West police’s Crime Prevention Unit responded to the information received at 11:00 and found the suspect in Wessels Street. Manager Michelle Bezuidenhout says maintaining self-sufficiency is fundamental to both the physical and emotional well-being of seniors. “Self-sufficiency gives older adults a sense of purpose, independence and dignity,” she explains. “Remaining active and making their own decisions helps improve confidence, supports physical health and reduces feelings of dependence. At Stranddiensentrum, we believe that growing older should never mean losing your independence.” Being part of the ACVV family strengthens this mission, giving the centre access to a broader support network, guidance and accountability anchored in compassion, respect, and community service. To support its members, the centre provides a comprehensive suite of convenience and care services under one roof. This includes wholesome meals as an onsite caterer supplies affordable, balanced meals. For many seniors who struggle to cook as a result of mobility, health or financial challenges, this service ensures proper nutrition and offers peace of mind to their families. An on-site hair salon allows members to maintain their self-care routine in a familiar, comfortable setting. And to combat isolation, the centre hosts a busy weekly schedule, including Canasta, line dancing, arts and crafts, knitting and

crochet groups, walking groups, and regular social events throughout the year. For many local seniors, the centre has transformed from a service provider into an extended family. “Strand-dienssentrum has become my second home. I’ve made wonderful friends here and there is always someone to share a cup of coffee and a laugh with,” said member Anna Engelbrecht. Another member Lientjie Groenewald added: “The activities keep me active, the meals are excellent and the staff always make us feel welcome. Coming here has changed my life for the better.” Like many NPOs, the centre navigates constant financial pressures as food, utility, maintenance and operational costs continue to rise. It’s single greatest operational need is securing a reliable minibus. Acquiring a vehicle would allow the team to transport seniors who lack access to reliable mobility, deliver nutritious meals directly to vulnerable homebound members, collect essential community donations and take members on enriching social outings. The centre welcomes involvement from local businesses, residents and volunteers across the basin. Businesses can sponsor events, donate goods or services, or partner on local community projects. Volunteers can assist with weekly activities, help organise fundraising events or simply spend quality time with members. And financial contributions directly support daily operations and bring the centre closer to purchasing its community minibus. Joining Strand-dienssentrum is straightforward: anyone aged 60 or older is invited to visit the centre, meet the friendly staff and complete a membership application. “The greatest reward is seeing our members smiling, laughing and enjoying life together,” Bezuidenhout said. “Strand-dienssentrum is more than just a building – it is a community where friendships flourish, lives are enriched and every person is treated with dignity and respect.”

Monochrome magic captured in SW Outstanding black-and-white photographs capturing the many facets of historic Vergelegen Wine Estate were unveiled at a function for the 25 finalists on Wednesday 1 July. Judged for creativity, composition and technical excellence, the winning entries in the fourth Essence of Vergelegen contest revealed fresh ways to view the celebrated Somerset West estate. Prizes included Vergelegen hospitality vouchers and wine and cameras and print room vouchers from sponsor Orms Direct. Brand partner Fujifilm previously led two guided photo walks on the estate. Zandvliet trumps Macassar at high schools’ Derby Day Two exciting days of school pride, athletic talent and camaraderie culminated on Saturday 1 August as Zandvliet High School (ZHS) claimed overall victory in the annual Derby Day against rivals Macassar High School (MHS). Held on Friday 31 July and Saturday 1 August, the multi-sport event brought together learners, staff, parents, and enthusiastic local supporters to witness high-stakes clashes across rugby, netball, soccer, and chess. ‘Ek is net Mia’, sê SA Skole-rugbyster Barend Williams Mia Kanka is die afgelope Vrydag (7 Augustus) deur Rusthof Sekondêre Skool vir haar geskiedkundige insluiting in die Suid-Afrikaanse o.19-vrouerugbyspan vereer. “Ek is maar net Mia; ek is nie ’n mens wat daarvan hou dat mense my so opbou as iets anders as wat ek is nie,” het die 16-jarige tydens die geleentheid gesê. Dié tiener het die skool se rekordboeke herskryf toe sy die skool se eerste rugbyspeler geword het wat SA kleure verwerf. Sy was ook deel van ’n groep wat in SA rugby geskiedenis gemaak het toe hulle in die eerste SA Skole-meisiespan ingesluit is. Om dié merkwaardige prestasies te vier, het Rusthof Sekondêr ’n spesiale saalbyeenkoms gehou waar mede-leerders en personeel Springbok-kleure en -truie ter ondersteunng van Mia gedra het. Dié talentvolle rugbyspeler se pad na die groen en goud was egter nie maklik en sonder uitdagings nie. Terwyl Mia oorlaai is met lof, het sy die gehoor daaraan herinner dat sy nie anders as haar mede-leerders is nie. “Ek is maar net iemand wat elke dag opgestaan en besluit het dat my drome die moeite werd is om voor te veg,” sê Mia. Selfs nadat sy historiese hoogtes bereik het, mik sy na die volgende stap en droom daarvan om SA op internasionale vlak te verteenwoordig.

r Mark Maritz is a specialist orthopaedic surgeon based in Somerset West, Cape Town, subspecialising in foot, ankle, and knee surgery. He practices at Busamed Paardevlei Private Hospital, where he combines a busy surgical practice with an active role in advancing standards across South African orthopaedics. A particular focus of his practice is foot and ankle arthroscopic surgery, a keyhole technique in which the joint is accessed through small portals and treated using ﬁne instruments, with a camera providing direct visualisation inside the joint. Notably, Dr Maritz is one of only a handful of South African surgeons performing arthroscopic ankle ligament repair and reconstruction, technique particularly well suited to athletic patients, in whom it offers less post-operative pain, a lower complication rate, and a notably faster return to training and competition. He is equally experienced in minimally invasive surgery (MIS) of the foot and ankle. This approach allows precise correction with signiﬁcantly less pain,

reduced swelling, and an earlier return to walking and normal activity, specifically in the treatment of bunions. Dr Maritz is also well versed in the treatment of sporting injuries in professional and elite athletes, where the demands of high-level performance call for precise diagnosis, expert surgical judgement, and rehabilitation strategies geared toward a safe and rapid return to sport. Dr Maritz holds several leadership positions in his field. He is incoming President of the South African Foot and Ankle Society (SAFAS) and sits on the ankle committee of ISAKOS, the international society for arthroscopy, knee surgery, and orthopaedic sports medicine. He has also served on the Exco Committee of the South African Orthopaedic Association's Professional Practice Committee, and is regularly invited to contribute internationally as faculty in his subspecialty. Outside of his professional life, Dr Maritz values time spent with his family and shares a love of adventurous travel. Record rows for hospice

Helderberg Hospice’s Squares for Care campaign closed on Friday 17 July with a final count of 106 763 squares, unofficially exceeding the current Guinness world record for the largest display of granny squares by more than 6 000.

The campaign, which launched on World Cancer Day (4 February) and culminated in a community celebration ahead of Mandela Day (17 July), drew volunteers from at least 18 towns across six provinces, from Langebaan on the West Coast and Tzaneen, Limpopo to Bloemfontein, Free State and Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. The final tally translates to 2 224 blankets, each one made from 48 hand-crocheted or knitted squares, now ready to bring warmth, dignity and comfort to patients receiving palliative care through Helderberg Hospice. “This was never really about the record,” said Helderberg Hospice CEO Robert de Wet. “It was about building a community on dignity when it’s needed most.”

The current Guinness World Record for the largest display of crochet squares stands at 100 581, set by Mother India’s Crochet Queens in Chennai, India on 9 March 2025. Helderberg Hospice’s campaign was run as an unofficial effort, given the cost of a formal Guinness record attempt, but the community’s result stands as a remarkable achievement. Contributions came from every corner of the community, including a 101-year-old volunteer from Langverwag Aftreeoord who continued knitting for the campaign throughout, schools including Totius Laerskool in Bellville, Hoërskool Strand and Helderberg International School. Mandela Day celebrations took place at Helderberg Hospice’s Hall and Garden in Somerset West, where volunteers spent their 67 minutes of service sorting and packing squares, crocheting in the garden, and tending to the Hospice’s Garden of Remembrance. The day culminated in a final count announcement and a blan-

ket gifting ceremony, where completed blankets were presented directly to patients in Helderberg Hospice’s care. With well over 100 000 squares now collected Helderberg Hospice’s next task is turning them into finished blankets. The organisation is calling on volunteers with crochet or knitting experience to help join completed squares together. Those interested in assisting with this next phase are encouraged to contact the Hospice directly. Empowerment through education In March, Rheinmetall Denel Munition (RDM), in partnership with Triple E Training, launched an Adult Education and Training (AET) programme to empower the Macassar community through education and personal growth. The programme welcomed 24 adult learners, offering foundational education equivalent to school grades while building literacy, numeracy, and communication skills. Participants also work towards NQF-aligned qualifications, unlocking opportunities for further education, learnerships, and better employment prospects. Already, 21 learners have earned their ABET Level 3 Numeracy qualifications after completing ABET Level 3 Literacy. The class is now progressing to ABET Level 4, bringing them closer to their educational goals, including upgrading their Grade 12 qualifications. RDM CEO Louis Erasmus encouraged the learners, sharing his own journey to highlight that it’s never too late to pursue education. Learner Andrea Abrahamse expressed gratitude to the facilitators for their patience and excitement about upgrading her Grade 12. RDM’s AET programme is not just about academics, it’s about building confidence, unlocking potential, and creating new opportunities.

On Wednesday 1 July, Rheinmetall Denel Munition (RDM) launched its AI-powered app building holiday coding course, a ten-day programme introducing 14 Grade 10 to 12 learners from Zandvliet High School to the exciting world of artiﬁcial intelligence and app development. The course, designed to empower young women in technology, combines hands-on learning with creativity and problem-solving. Participants explore how AI integrates into mobile apps during two-hour daily sessions, making complex technology accessible and engaging. Nandipha Mntambo, RDM’s transformation manager, highlighted the programme’s goal of building conﬁdence, expanding career aspirations, and showcasing the vital role of women in tech. Participant Jade-Lynn Williams shared how the experience broadened her career outlook, envisioning how coding could complement her future as an accountant.

Trans/ Vaal is ’n aangrypende Afrikaanse dansteaterstuk deur Ignatius van Heerden wat identiteit, selfontdekking en seksuele identiteit in 1980’s Suid-Afrika ondersoek. Structure for youth rugby bridging Yaseen Gaffar A dedicated junior rugby structure in the Helderberg has officially taken flight following a new collaboration between Mr Accuracy Rugby Academy and Helderberg Rugby Club. Designed to bridge grassroots skill development with senior club rugby, the initiative has already drawn massive local interest, signing up 70 young players in a short span. The initiative stems from a need for expanded youth opportunities beyond the traditional schools’ rugby calendar. “This project started from a personal place,” said Rutger Boshoff, founding member and programme manager of Mr Accuracy Rugby Academy. “As a parent, I wanted more rugby opportunities for my sons because the school season is too short. Our community desperately needed a dedicated junior club structure.” By partnering with Helderberg Rugby Club – known for its rich heritage and strong community presence – the academy aims to establish a long-term pathway for young athletes training across the under-9 to under-13 age groups. Because young players naturally disperse to different high schools as they grow, the goal of the partnership is to build a lasting connection to the club so

that players proudly return to represent Helderberg’s senior teams in the future. In addition to building a long-term pipeline, the programme addresses several immediate grassroots needs, including organising off-season fixtures to provide players with opportunities to play against established clubs such as Hamilton and Brackenfell rugby clubs. Inclusive coaching will offer access to top-tier coaching for children who may slip through the cracks in lower school teams and safe player development allows boys who have not yet hit their growth spurts to develop safely without having to play up against larger under-13 players. Founded by father-and-son duo Martin and Leon Smith in 2015, Mr Accuracy Rugby Academy focuses on elite-level precision and fundamental skill development. The academy’s leadership brings extensive experience to the partnership as Martin is a former director of rugby at SA Rugby College, who has coached alongside Springbok legends Nick Mallett and Andre Markgraaf. Leon holds 20 years of coaching experience and was named St George RFC’s Coach of the Year last year. To date, the academy’s emphasis on technical foundation has produced 15 Western Province under-12 and under-13 representative players. The new partnership is preparing for

its first major test at the Morningstar Junior 7-a-Side Tournament. Selecting and preparing four squads in under a month posed a significant administrative challenge, given the unique, high-tempo skill set required for sevens rugby. Ultimately, the academy narrowed its group down to 40 players best suited for the fast-paced game. The club will field four squads – Helderberg 1 and 2 across both the under-11 and under-13 divisions. With several current WP youth players in the system who have previously worked under Martin

and Leon, team management expects to field highly competitive squads worthy of the Helderberg badge. While the teams are focused on strong tournament performances, the overarching mission is centered on community and supporting young athletes. “My main motivation is simply giving local children more time to play the game they love,” Boshoff noted. “Success means watching these 40 boys play with pride, honouring the legendary legacy of Helderberg and strengthening this phenomenal community partnership.”

Strand resident Donavan Udemans made waves in the local kayak-fishing community after landing an incredible 101 cm snoek during the Katonkel Ronkel 2026 competition on Saturday 1 August. His impressive catch is currently the biggest snoek recorded in the competition so far, placing him in a strong position to claim a prize in this category. The competition attracted 158 registered members, with 125 kayakers taking to the water on the day. Catching a 101 cm snoek from a kayak is an exceptional achievement, showcasing the angler’s skill patience and dedication to the sport. Udemans finished in an impressive third place in last year’s competition and is hoping that he can repeat or better in this year’s competition, as the final results are still awaited.

aithby Universals claimed local derby bragging rights in a high-scoring encounter over the weekend, while Macassar produced a dominant display in Super League B as crucial promotion and relegation fates were sealed across the Western Province super leagues on Saturday 8 August. The match of the weekend belonged to RU, who came out on top in an entertaining Super League C local derby against Strand United, winning 42-27. Raithby set an intense early pace, opening the scoring with a penalty before Strand United quickly leveled with one of their own. The first half developed into a thrilling seesaw battle as both sides exchanged unconverted tries. Late in the opening stanza, RU’s formidable forward pack asserted control, creating clean quick balls to unleash their rapid backline. Despite United crossing for a converted try of their own, the home side held a 27-15 lead at the break. United refused to go away silently in the second half, striking first after the restart to put the pressure back on Raithby. That wake-up call sparked the home side back into gear, as Raithby responded with a series of converted tries to seal the 42-27 victory. For Raithby Universals, centre Lezainne Botto, scrumhalf Elzedan Herbert and flanker Aidin Robertson produced outstanding individual performances. Despite the loss, Strand United played with immense grit in a game fought in great sportsmanship, proving that their current log standings dont fully reflect the quality they bring to the pitch. LEAGUE CAMPAIGNS COMPLETED Elsewhere in SLC, Strand RFC earned a hard-fought 24-18 victory over Eerste Rivier to end their campaign on a high note. Sir Lowrians fell 38-13 to Rangers, who were officially crowned SLC Champions. Sir Lowrians, have one final league fixture remaining on August 15 against Busy Bees at Langa Stadium. In Super League B, Macassar put on an attacking masterclass, thrashing Young Peoples 53-7. Macassar, riding high in SLB, still has one final match left on their schedule – an away clash against CPUT on Saturday 15 August. All Saints wrapped up their SLB campaign in style with a clinical 19-0 shut-out victory over Hamediehs. Despite securing the win, All Saints must nervously wait on the outcome of the final fixtures of Violets and Hamlets, with all indications pointing toward a potential drop to SLC next season. St George’s saw their season come to a painful end, suffering a heavy 68-22 defeat at the hands of Hamlets. With their campaign now concluded, St George’s have been officially relegated to SLC for the upcoming season. At the top of the Western Province club rugby hierarchy, Villager RFC has been officially confirmed as Super League A champions. Second-placed Helderberg Rugby Club prepares for a SLA showdown this coming weekend as they travel to take on the UCT Ikeys in their final fixture.
