Thecouple,SesiLion and Tsokolo Maboe,continue to be haunted by the traumatic memories of the attack on their child by the neighbour's dog. During avisit to their residence, both parentsindicated theywereunable to speakwith themedia given the trauma followingthe deathoftheir little boy.

Thechild diedshortlyafterwards from severe injuries suffered during the attack, accordingtopolice Lion and her sonwerewalking down the road when theyweresurprised by the animal.

ThepoliceinBloemspruit are investigatinga case of culpable homi-

Thedogsweretaken to the Bloemfontein SPCA on Tuesday24February. Sgt. MahlomolaKareli, provincial

spokesperson forthe Free Statepolice, said the tragic incidentoccurred duringthe day, at approximately 11:00.

He said, accordingtopreliminary reports, the dog(identified as a Boerboel) escapedfromaneighbouringproperty.

“Theanimalreportedlynavigated through agap in afence into an adjacentyard, before exitingthrough a gatetoreach the victims on the street Thedog inflicted severe bite wounds to the rightside and middle of the child’s head,”said Kareli.

He said the petalsoattackedthe motherwho desperately attemptedto save herson’s life.

“Whenthe mother intervened,the dogbrieflyturnedonher,bitingher on the left arm, before returningto continue its assault on the child,”said Kareli.

He said the dogstopped after a passingchildthrew astone at it,causingitto flee the scene.

“A Good Samaritan rushedboth the child andhis mother to the hospital, butthe two-year-old boysuccumbed

to his injuries and wascertified dead on arrival,”said Kareli.
