Bloem se topmatrieks blink uit LIENTJIE MENTZ Talle skole in Bloemfontein spog met uitstekende uitslae in 2025 se Senior Sertifikaateksamen waarvan die uitslae Dinsdag 13 Januarie bekend gemaak is. By die Hoërskool Jim Fouché was daar groot vreugde toe Jaco Deysel sy uitslae gekry het. Hy spog met ’n gemiddeld van 95,3% en het onderskeidings in al sy vakke behaal. Dit sluit in Afrikaans (95%), Engels Tweede Taal (98%), wiskunde (97%), lewensoriëntering (98%), ekonomie (94%), fisiese wetenskap (90%), inligtingstegnologie (90%), rekeningkunde (92%) en addisionele wiskunde (85%). JF spog verder met agt leerlinge wat elk sewe onderskeidings het. Hulle is Janeili Saaiman (92,4%), Amoné Verwy (90,7%), Janah Swarts (89,1%), Leané de Villiers (88,6%), Wihan Coertzen (88,3%), JD Roux (87,7%), Annabeth Barnard (85,6%) en Christiaan Botha (84%). het, wat dit die grootste nasionale assesseringsproses maak wat ooit in die land se geskiedenis onderneem is. Meer as 656 000 leerders het hul matriekeksamens suksesvol geslaag. Hierdie groep leerders het altesaam 6 950 skole nasionaal verteenwoordig. Die Vrystaat het sy onderskeiding van eerste plek nasionaal verloor, wat nege jaar lank gehou is, afgestaan aan KwaZulu-Natal, wat vir die eerste keer 'n indrukwekkende slaagsyfer van 90.6% behaal het. Die Vrystaat het tweede plek behaal met 'n lofwaardige 89,33% en Gauteng was derde met 89,06%. Die Vrystaat het die afgelope tien jaar sewe keer eerste plek behaal, insluitend vier agtereenvolgende jare van 2021 tot 2024. Die jare is soos volg: 2019 (88,4%), 2020 (85,1%), 2021 (85,7%), 2022 (88,5%), 2023 (89,0%) en 2024 (91,0%). Die Oos-Kaap het die laagste slaagsyfer van 84,17% aangeteken, terwyl die Noord-Kaap die grootste verbetering onder provinsies getoon het met 87,79%. Die volledige provinsiale ranglys wys Noordwes (88.49%), WesKaap (88.2%), Noord-Kaap (87.79%), Mpumalanga (86.5%) en Limpopo (86.15%) wat die top presteerders voltooi. Openbare vertroue in Mangaung-metro kwyn kommerwekkend LIENTJIE MENTZ Ongeag voortdurende klagtes van inwoners van die Mangaung-metro dat hul waterverbruik nie akkuraat gelees word nie, duur die probleem voort. DA-wyksraadslid Dirk Kotzé het op 6 Januarie navrae aan stadsbestuurder Sello More gestuur waarin hy talle vrae vra oor die integriteit van die munisipale waterinkomstestelsel. Kotzé sê die metro het Mchiliteni Fofota Investments weer aangestel om watermeterlesings te doen. Dit word gedoen teen R13,50 per lesing, wat deel is van ’n driejaar-kontrak van R4,3 miljoen. Die kontrak eindig in Junie vanjaar.

“Ons het Reël 38-vrae aan die stadsbestuurder voorgelê om duidelikheid te vra oor hoe die akkuraatheid van lesings geverifieer word, hoe kontrakprestasie gemoniteer word, of betalings aan meetbare uitkomste gekoppel is, en of risikobevindings van die ouditeur-generaal in die kontrak aangespreek is.” Hy sê hierdie vrae is kommerwekkend omdat die ouditeur-generaal herhaaldelik geskatte lesings, swak kontrakbestuur, inkomstelekkasie en swak toesig in Mangaung se vorige finansiële jare aangedui het. Kotzé sê die DA het talle klagtes van inwoners ontvang wat hul waterrekeninge betwis en beweer dat die gefaktureerde bedrae nie

Die faktureringsfoute plaas huishoudings onder geldelike druk en ondermyn die openbare vertroue in die munisipaliteit se vermoë om sy inkomstestelsels verantwoordelik te bestuur. “Die DA sal nie toelaat dat openbare geld sonder aanspreeklikheid bestee word in 'n metro wat reeds onder administrasie is en sukkel met dienslewering en inkomste-invordering nie. Inwoners verdien akkurate fakturering, deursigtige bestuur en beslissende optrede waar mislukkings geïdentifiseer word.” BloemNuus het in 2024 berig Mchiliteni Fofota Investments het voorheen ook ’n kontrak van die metro gekry om Hauweng-busskuilings op

Kotzé sê die kontrak vir die busskuilings is aan Mchiliteni Fofota Investments toegeken terwyl die maatskappy, luidens dokumente wat hy onder oë gehad het, byna as maatskappy gederegistreer is weens nie-voldoening aan sy jaarlikse belastingverpligtinge.

Just a day before Centlec’s chief executive officer (CEO) Malefane Sekoboto’s contract was due to expire, the Mangaung Metro held a closed council meeting to extend his contract. Dirk Kotzé, DA councillor, says his party condemns the virtual meeting held on 30 December behind closed doors in which questionable decisions were pushed. “The closed meeting had limited public access and undermined transparency,” he said. The DA will alert oversight bodies, in-

cluding the Auditor-General, the Provincial Legislature, and the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, to urgently address these ongoing governance failures. Kotzé says the DA opted not to participate in the vote regarding a three-month extension of the Centlec CEO’s contract. Bea Labuschagne (22), ’n oudleerder van die Hoër Meisieskool Oranje wat verlede jaar haar studie aan die Universiteit van die Vrystaat (UV) voltooi het, sê die Here het dit op haar hart geplaas om so 'n uitdaging te onderneem om skoolgaande kinders te help. Sy het ’n niewinsgewende organisasie, Prosper in life with Christ, geregistreer en gaan met haar ondersteuningspan die tog na Kaapstad onderneem as eerste bewusmakingsveldtog en om geld vir dié organisasie in te samel. “My oogmerk is om leerders wat dit nie altyd kan bekostig nie, geldelik te ondersteun met sport- en akademiese ontwikkeling.” Labuschagne praat uit eie ervaring. “Ek wil teruggee oor al die gawes wat ek danksy ander ontvang het,” vertel sy. “As kind was daar talle uitdagings in ons huis, maar ek is dankbaar om te kan sê dat die Here altyd uitkoms gegee het. “Ek het nou die geleentheid om leerders te help, om Jesus se hande en voete te wees.” Deur die jare het sy besef dat elke keuse wat jy uitoefen, ’n invloed op jou lewe het. “Elke trap simboliseer ’n keuse wat jy uitoefen.Klein keuses raak later gewoontes  wanneer hierdie keuses slegs is, is dit dikwels nie net vir jouself nadelig nie, maar ook vir mense rondom jou. “Jou keuses beïnvloed ook ander se lewe." FOCUS ON: MIMOSA MALL MARATHON

’n Dreineringspypie moes Maandag 12 Januarie in klein Janique Venter (8) se rug geplant word nadat vog by haar een oor uitgeloop het. Dit kom ná nóg ’n groot operasie Dinsdag 6 Januarie in die Bloemfontein Mediclinic waarin die gewas wat weer gegroei het, uit haar nek verwyder is. Die operasie waarin ’n gewas van 8cm uit Janique se nek gesny is, is deur dr. Johan Grobbelaar, hoof van die departement oor-neus-enkeel aan die Tygerberg-hospitaal, in Bloemfontein uitgevoer. Janique se pa, Jacques Venter, sê die dokters kon sowat 98,5% van die gewas wat in haar nek regs onder haar regteroor gegroei het en na haar brein en linkeroor versprei het, verwyder. “Verder het hulle die aartjies wat na die brein lei gebrand en ons glo dit sal daardie deel van die gewas doodsmoor.” Janique is op ses maande met neuroblastoom gediagnoseer  ’n kwaadaardige gewas het aan die regterkant van haar nek gegroei. Dit was die begin van ’n lang stryd. Drie jaar gelede het dokters bevestig dat die gewas na ’n nie-kwaadaardige ganglioneuroom verander het, maar dit het druk op haar lugpyp veroorsaak. Met die ondersteuning van Dewald en Yolandi Fourie se The Pace Foundation, wat gehelp het om geld in te samel, is Janique en haar ouers aan die begin van 2025 na Memphis, Tennessee, waar die gewas uit haar nek gesny is. Ná hul terugkeer uit Amerika, is daar verlede jaar vasgestel dat die gewas weer begin groei het en verder versprei. Grobbelaar het einde verlede jaar na Bloemfontein gekom vir ’n konsultasie met Janique waarna hy die besonderhede van die operasie met Janique se ouers bespreek het. Oor verlede week se operasie, sê hy Janique het ’n komplekse kanker in haar nek wat tot in haar skedelbasis versprei het.

“Saam met ’n multidisiplinêre span, het ons besluit om weer te opereer. Die operasie het goed verloop, maar ’n lang herstelpad lê nog voor. “Die belangrikste deel bly die opvolg om moontlike herhaling vroeg op te spoor.” Betrokke saam met Grobbelaar by Dinsdag se operasie was dr. Chris Diffenthal (pediater), dr. Piet Kruger (narkotiseer), dr. Jan du Plessis (pediatriese onkoloog), dr. Johannes Claassen en dr. Marileen Roos (albei oor-neus-en-keel-spesialiste). Janique is steeds in die hoësorgeenheid in Mediclinic, waar sy herstel.

Klarinet speel hier g’n tweede viool

Soliste van wêreldgehalte neem op Saterdag 7 Februarie deel aan die ZA- Internasionale Klarinet-ekstravaganza om dié kunsvorm te vier. Leerders en onderwysers en internasionale gaste woon dié weeklange geleentheid van 4 tot 7 Februarie by. Dit is die enigste in sy soort vir Suid-Afrikaanse houtblasers en is van groot opvoedkundige waarde terwyl dit die bou van brûe in die musiekwêreld bevorder. Die klarinetweek vind elke tweede jaar hier plaas. Internasionale gaste wat die werksessie bywoon, sluit in Eddy Vanoosthuyse en Sever-

ine Sierens van België, Bence Szepesi van Hongarye, Vincenzo Casale van Italië en Brooks Thon van Japan in. Ander gaste van oor Suid-Afrika heen sluit in Danre Strydom (Bloemfontein), Chrisna Smith en Morne van Heerden van Gauteng en Heidri Faber van die Oos-Kaap. Die week begin op Woensdag 4 Februarie met ’n gratis konsert van 12:00 tot 13:00 in die Odeion op die hoofkampus van die Universiteit van die Vrystaat (UV). Uitgesoekte soliste sal deelneem. Om 19:00 sal van die internasionale soliste ’n gratis konsert in die Odeion uitvoer. Op 5 Februarie duur nog ’n

gratis konsert in die Odeion van 12:00 tot 13:00. Dié aand tree van die internasionale gaste saam met die Odeion-strykkwartet op vir ’n konsert gepaardgaande met ’n ete op die Brandkop-landgoed. Die laaste gratis konsert is op 6 Februarie, tussen 12:00 en 13:00 in die Odeion, waaraan sommige leerders wat deel van die fees was, gaan deelneem. ’n Week se feesvieringe word op 7 Februarie om 19:00 afgesluit met ’n konsert van soliste en ’n klarinetkoor saam met die Vrystaatse Simfonie-orkes (FSSO). The winner of the International Institute of the Arts (IIA), resident at the University of the Free State (UFS), Stefans Grové IIA National Composition Competition, was announced recently. The IIA was held for the seventh time and is considered one of South Africa’s foremost platforms dedicated to the creation and advancement of new art music. Prof. Alexander Johnson founded the competition in honour of Prof Stefans Grové, who served as his composition mentor. The first prize, valued at R10 000, has been awarded to Chesney Palmer for his composition The Exhibition, a work for string quartet inspired by the abstract artwork of Cathy Collins. Conceived from a chromesthetic perspective, the composition derives its musical material from the colours, textures, and visual gestures of the artwork. DISPLAY SHINES LIGHT ON CONTEMPORARY TOPICS “Beyond Walls: Emerging Contemporary Voices” - curated from the ArtbankSA Collection - is one of the exhibitions now on show at the Oliewenhuis Art Museum. Unlike traditional museum collections conﬁned to institutional walls, ArtbankSA operates as a dynamic platform that circulates emerging artists' work through

leasing and sales to collectors and the general public. This exhibition captures the essence of this ﬂuid model, presenting works that exist in active dialogue with diverse spaces and communities. Beyond Walls reveals urgent themes coursing through contemporary South African art:

Wenteikens sekuur getref LIENTJIE MENTZ Vrystaters het uitgeblink op die Wêreldkampioenskap vir Lazer Run, Triathle en Biathle wat van 8 tot 13 Desember in Mosselbaai aangebied is.

Adri Vermaas het uitgeblink in die afdeling vir mans 60 jaar en ouer.

Die groot span plaaslike atlete van ouderdomsgroepe o.9, tot deelnemers in die ouderdomsgroep 60 jaar en ouer het aan die drie kampioenskappe tydens die vakansie deelgeneem. Zoe Morgado was eerste in die biathle vir o.15-meisies. WJ Kruger was eerste in die afdeling vir junior seuns en Jayme-Sue Vermaas was tweede in die afdeling vir senior vroue. Lynette Fischer was eerste in die afdeling vir vroue 60 jaar en ouer en Rika Vermaas was derde in dié afdeling in die biathle. Adri Vermaas was eerste in die afdeling vir mans 60 jaar en ouer. In die gemengde aflosse was Zoe en WJ asook Adri in die spanne wat eerste in hul

afdelings gekom het. In die triathle was Zoe tweede in die afdeling vir o.15-meisies en Cyden Potgieter was derde in die afdeling vir o.19-seuns. Danny Pienaar was derde onder die junior meisies. In die triathle vir vroue 60 jaar en ouer was Lynette en Adri was eerste in die onderskeie afdelings vir mans en vroue. In die triathle se gemengde aflosse was Zoe derde en Adri en Lynette was eerste. Ina Prinslloo (vroue 50 jaar en ouer) was eerste. In die lazer run het talle Vrystaters medaljes verower. In die afdeling vir o.9-meisies was Elizna Smith tweede en Aila Cilliers derde. Miane Wessels was derde in die afdeling vir o.11-meisies en Chani Brits was tweede. Zoe was derde in die afdeling vir o.15-meisies. Rouve Janse van Rensburg was derde (o.17-meisies) en Lynette was derde (vroue 60 jaar en ouer). Ook in die gemengde aflosse was daar medaljes vir Almy Wessels (tweede, o.13-meisies), Charni (tweede), Rouve (tweede) en Gerhard Beukes (tweede, mans 50 jaar en ouer).

Kaylyn Blair skiet in die lazer run. Sy neem deel in die ouderdomsgroep vir o.13-meisies.

Jong spelers maak groot opslae, slaan graag ’n paar kishoue Vyf Bloemfonteiners is ingesluit in nasionale tennisspanne nadat hulle in Pretoria meegeding het in die interprovinsiale tennistoernooi wat van Donderdag 8 Januarie tot 10 Januarie gespeel is. Die spanne is op die laaste aand van die toernooi aangekondig. Mandie en Lika Claasens van die Hoër Meisieskool Oranje is ingesluit in die o.15-span. Nathan Herbert van Grey-kollege (sekondêr) is ingesluit in die o.15-seunspan. Matthew Goodchild, ook van Grey, is in die

o.19-tennisspan ingesluit. Nestine van Rooyen van Oranje is as reserwe ingesluit in die o.19-meisiespan. Altesaam 16 provinsiale spanne het aan die toernooi in Pretoria deelgeneem. Nathan en Lika het nie een van hul wedstryde gedurende die week verloor nie. Al vyf spelers het ’n baie belangrike rol gespeel in hul spanne se prestasies tydens die toernooi. Hulle ontvang almal afrigting by Hendri Steyn van Cepha Tennis-akademie.

Die twee leerlinge van Grey-kollege wat in Suid-Afrikaanse spanne ingesluit is, is Matthew Goodchild (links) en Nathan Herbert.

Die tennisspelers van die Hoër Meisieskool Oranje wat aan die interprovinsiale tennistoernooi in Pretoria gaan deelneem het, is van links Lily Schutte, Inge Ferreira, Nestine van Rooyen, Mandie Claassens, Mariaana Spamer en Lika Claassens.
