LETTER FROM PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD As we reflect on the past year, I am delighted to share the remarkable growth and improvements at Notre Dame Housing (NDH) in our ongoing commitment to providing affordable housing and support services to low-income seniors in North Omaha. It has truly been a transformative year, and I am excited to update you on the progress we've made. The highlight of our achievements is the upcoming opening of our new 5,000 square foot Life Enrichment Center (LEC). This facility is a testament to our dedication to enhancing the lives of our residents and the community. The LEC includes a large, modern food pantry equipped with three freezers, refrigeration, and ample storage shelves for dry goods. By optimizing the pantry's system, we can now provide quicker service, a greater quantity of food, and reach even more members of our community. Beyond the food pantry, the LEC offers a myriad of spaces and amenities designed to foster community and well-being. From dedicated areas for group exercise and large meeting spaces for programs and discussions to an entertainment zone with comfortable seating, TVs, and games – the LEC is poised to become the heart of our community. We welcomed Ariel Rathjen as our new Life Enrichment Coordinator. Ariel has been instrumental in developing and offering program activities that enhance physical, social, intellectual, and spiritual wellbeing for our residents and local seniors. In 2022 alone, we hosted over 283 programs with an impressive 6,912 participants.

These programs include weekly current events discussions, trivia and games, on-site banking assistance, health education, volunteer opportunities, exercise classes, and exciting excursions including the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo, The Durham Museum, University of Nebraska Omaha to see the Undesign the Redline Exhibit, the Shrine Circus, Joslyn Castle, a Christmas Lights Tour, and so much more. We are so grateful to all our communmity partners! To further elevate NDH services, DP Management hired Danyell Price, Assistant Property Manger to Jane Derosier, Property Manager. We are thankful for our strategic partnership with DP Management and Kimball Management. Forming this alliance has allowed us to focus on providing exceptional programming and services while ensuring the seamless operation and maintenance of our campus. Our success is not achieved alone, and we extend our gratitude to the dedicated volunteers who contribute their time and effort in reception, the kitchen, and the food pantry. Your commitment ensures the consistency and quality of our programming. As we look ahead, the challenges of rising affordable housing costs, inflation, and food insecurity underscore the urgency of sustaining and growing NDH. The increased risk of loneliness and social isolation among seniors further emphasizes the vital role we play in our community.

COMMUNITY LUNCHEON NDH is thankful to our generous donors who make an impact in the lives of seniors.
On October 18, 2022, NDH hosted a Health and Hope Luncheon that focused on community building and serving seniors. NDH celebrated 25 years of serving seniors in North Omaha, having first opened its doors in August of 1997. When Notre Dame Housing began, no one had anticipated what it would become. It combined HUD housing and senior tax credit housing under one roof, joined by a senior center. This is a unique senior living community that had the notion that seniors should not only receive what they needed to survive but what they wanted to thrive, grow, and participate in their community. At the luncheon, we recognized the staff, life enrichment coordinator, service coordinator, and the residents of NDH. We also honored the women who made NDH possible - the Notre Dame Sisters. After seeing a need in the community for affordable senior housing, the Notre Dame Sisters converted their former Academy and Motherhouse into apartments for local seniors. This was an incredible risk to take. The luncheon keynote speaker was Naomi Hattaway. Naomi is an accomplished person who has held some impressive professional roles: director of communications and community initiatives for Front Porch Investments, a nonprofit focused on filling the affordable housing gap; founder of Leaving Well Consulting, which provides services for navigating transition and change; owner of 8th & Home Real Estate and Relocation; former program director for Habitat for Humanity of Omaha— and that’s naming just a few. During the luncheon, Naomi addressed the inherent leadership within each individual and shared insights on unlocking it. Furthermore, she delved into the unique contributions of every community and strategies for inclusivity. Concluding her talk, she emphasized, "Advocacy possesses the power to create a meaningful impact." At the end, everyone raised a glass to another 25 years of housing, health, and hope at NDH.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEAR The residents of NDH performed “Timeless Tales", a series of charming acts that brings the Brothers Grimm classic fairy tales to life on stage! The residents were given the opportunity to showcase their acting skills in front of a live audience. The play was sponsored by the Nebraska Arts Council, who provided the resources needed to bring this magical production to life.
Residents toured the Omaha Mounted Police Portal barn. They had the opportunity to meet all the horses and learned it takes 6 months to two years for the horses to be trained. Sgt. Vodicka explained that police officers can apply to the Mounted Polie after three years of duty. The residents experienced the different personalities of the horses who were nice and very hungry!
Angel Hill and NDH social work practicum students from Creighton and Champion of Aging, planned and hosted a "Decades Dance" for residents. Women from the Creighton rowing team and men from the Creighton cross country team came to dance and visit with our residents.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEAR Residents received bags from the Eastern Nebraska Office on Again (ENOA) filled with $42 worth of fresh produce from Hy-Vee including salad, broccoli, cauliflower, oranges, bananas, carrots, apples, strawberries, and potatoes. We are so grateful to ENOA and Hy-Vee.
Nursing students from the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) organized a health fair for the residents of NDH. Various stations were set up, each focusing on different health topics for residents to explore. The residents moved through the stations one by one, gaining insights and knowledge from each.
Julie Masters, Gerontologist, Professor, and Terry Haney Chair of Gerontology at University of Nebraska- Omaha (UNO), delivered a presentation to NDH residents on the evolving landscape of aging in the United States. Julie posed thought-provoking questions to the residents, encouraging reflection: "How have you equipped yourself for the aging process? What goals do you aspire to achieve? What brings you a sense of purpose?"

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEAR The Wellness Initiative for Senior Education (WISE) Program promotes healthy aging and educates senior citizens on a range of subjects, such as safe drug usage, efficient communication with healthcare professionals, and healthy living techniques. Michelle Clark, professional organizer & owner of Bee Organized, spoke to NDH residents on the importance of being organized and simplifying life by pairing down unneeded, dustcollecting stuff.

FINANCIALS The revenue for NDH comes from grants and foundations along with individual donations. The Notre Dame Sisters made a significant donation ($125,000) to NDH for the remodeling of the Life Enrichment Center. These funds are restricted and will be used in 2023-2024. Our efforts to combat isolation, provide safe, affordable housing, address food insecurity, and provide educational programming for our residents and those in the community, are truly making a difference in the lives of those we serve, and our expenses reflect that. Programing continues to remain our main expense. We are proud that we can keep our administrative costs low through our partnerships with DP Management, LLC, and Kimball Management Inc.
