We are honored to announce our new leadership team! After completing extended terms on the leadership team, Srs. Margaret Hickey, Joy Connealy, and Rita Ostry are moving on. We are thrilled to announce that Sr. Rita Ostry will be our new Provincial President, as of August. She is joined by Srs. Mary Kay Meagher and Mary Ann Zimmer to lead the NDS Omaha Province. Sr. Margaret Hickey will also be retiring in July, after she passes the baton to Sr. Rita. Margaret Hickey served as the Notre Dame Sisters Provincial President for an impressive three times -- 1977-1983, 1998-2005, and currently from 2013-22. Last June, Sister Mary Ann Zimmer, PhD, retired from teaching at Marywood University in Scranton, PA where she had taught for 14 years. Sr. Mary Kay Meagher served as a nurse practitioner for more than 40 years, serving mostly immigrant and low income peoples. She continues social justice work in Omaha, throughout Nebraska, and specifically with refugees and immigrants.
Join us for the NDA Alumnae reunion and get your sweatshirt! Enjoy a reunion at Notre Dame Housing (previously Notre Dame Academy) Saturday, September 10. We will offer Mass at 3PM, class photos at 4 PM, and at 4:15 PM, tours of the building with refreshments and light appetizers. We will specifically celebrate the classes of 1972 (50th anniversary!), 1967, 1962, 1957, 1952, and 1947. To celebrate Notre Dame Academy Alumnae, we are offering sweatshirts to the graduates. These sweatshirts can be picked up at the reunion or mailed anywhere in the US. Loving God, We greet this Fourth of July with grateful hearts as we call to mind the vision of freedom and justice for all upon which our country was built. We give thanks for those who imagined this vision. We are grateful to those who continue advocating for and pursuing a land of peace, liberty and equity for all. We realize it is still being created, however, as we witness the divisions, prejudices and injustices that plague us. May we hold fast to the dream and vision of unity within our country. May we dedicate ourselves to living as brothers and sisters respectful of one another’s dignity and need for equity. May we also realize the importance of reverencing our earth which provides for and sustains much of our lives. This summer marks the 25th year of Notre Dame Housing! 2022 marks the 25th anniversary of Notre Dame Housing. We look forward to sharing many reflections and memories of this incredible ministry, founded and now sponsored by the Notre Dame Sisters. My farm background gives me an appreciation for the small seed that gets planted in the dark soil and with nourishment grows into a life-giving plant. Watching Notre Dame Housing mature and grow has been a joy for all of us and has needed the nourishment of so many friends and partners. The work of providing a safe, affordable home for seniors with services that provide for their needs as they live out their years takes a village. The Notre Dame Sisters and Notre Dame Housing Board has been blessed with generous, visionary partners who continue to make this housing ministry a wonderful place to call home. For more than 100 years this campus has welcomed those who come to find peace and provided the services they desire. That legacy continues. The services provided by Notre Dame Housing to the residents and the broader community continues that vital mission. All are welcome, all are respected and all are valued for the unique gifts they bring. The seeds planted long ago continue to bear fruit. ~Joy Connealy, ND
