Pray with us for our indigenous friends, family, and neighbors Gracious God we give thanks and praise for this wondrous world in which we live. Beauty and diversity surrounds us. All of creation beholds amazing wonder. You, O God, gave life to all peoples, animals, plants and the earth. We are all so closely related and connected. Lead us to a deeper understanding of the indigenous people who have shared their wisdom and understanding of this connectedness. Help us to heal the fractured relationships of the past so that honor, reverence and dignity can bind us together. The indigenous people believe deeply “we are all related,” may we strive to believe and live in that spirit. Amen.
Aksarben Foundation awards our Safe Homes Program a grant Thank you to the Aksarben Foundation for selecting our Safe Homes ministry as a recipient for their community grant program. We truly depend on partners like Aksarben to help end the cycle of domestic violence. Aksarben Friends has been awarding community grants throughout the state of Nebraska and Western Iowa for over 20 years. Each grant goes to assist communities with their most pressing needs, ensuring the safety and enjoyment of these citizens in the places they live, work, and raise their families.

For us as a nation preparing to vote that we study the issues and candidates voting for those who have the common good of all at the heart of their policies. Congrats to Sr. Mary Kay Meagher & One World Community Health Center OneWorld Community Health Centers was established in 1970 as a volunteer-staffed free clinic to provide patients with financial, cultural and linguistic barriers better access to quality health care services. Nearly half a century later, OneWorld is the largest provider of primary health care services in South Omaha, and theyare the only primary care clinic in the area with a majority bilingual and bicultural staff, a sliding fee scale for patients without insurance, entitlement enrollment, onsite dental, pharmacy, behavioral health care, vision and other services This year marks OneWorld’s 50th anniversary of providing top-quality, affordable health care to people who, because of their economic status, might otherwise fall through the cracks. We are honored to have our very own Mary Kay Meagher, APRN, work with this wonderful organization from 1990-1995. She began her career as a nurse practitioner helping the Hispanic population at the the Indian-Chicano Center. She was later named Executive Director/Nurse Practitioner to promote continued growth and stability.

Your purchase will benefit our Safe Homes Program, which provides a “Path Forward” for hundreds of women and children leaving domestic violence shelters in Omaha. We provide startup funds for utilities and rent for one month and follow-up support. The financial and spiritual help for these survivors provides a safe path forward so they don’t have to return to their abusers. All of the proceeds from the poinsettia sale will go directly to help domestic violence survivors.
