Most Popular Instrument: DRUMS Despite a wide array of stringed instruments to choose from hanging up on the walls, and a selection of three powerful keyboards, there’s just something so mysterious and wonderful about that dominating collection of wooden cylinders sitting up on that stage, glistening from the stage lights, casting inspiration to all those who stand before it.

The Drum Kit reigns King, Queen, and Court at Navy Yard, demanding the attention of so many young musicians daring to take the sticks. Jefet, Braden, Gabriel, Crystal, Amro, Kiley, just to name a few, have been enamoured by this challenging instrument, and have vowed to take on the quest of learning how to play. Though they’re all at different levels, it’s been incredible to watch them all grow in their own ways. Braden works on playing to music to improve his timing. Jefet works on his independence (making his arms and feet be able to play different parts). Crystal has become a student-teacher, passing on her knowledge of basic beat playing to others who are interested in learning the drums.

58 In the Studio: Alex Yao First Song Jaden started coming in to the studio every day to work on his first original song. He came in with nothing but a few chords, and now he’s working on the lyrics for the second part of the song!
Alex is a singer and songwriter who has come to Notes for Notes for the first time just this summer. His music is emotionally driven rap and r&b, with thumping beats and melodic landscapes. He’s currently working on a series of single for his Soundcloud page, establishing a brand identity, and picking up the skills he needs along the way. Right now, we’re working on his singing, mixing, and mastering skills.
