Practice Makes Perfect
Continuing to work with Scarlett has been an incredible journey for her. We continue to work on production, songwriting, and general creativity. In this month's lessons, we tackled how to create different layers, contrast them, and mix them together. We focused a lot on wet vs. dry elements in production, as well as crafting instrumental parts that work well with the rest of the arrangement. Scarlett continues to make beats and productions every week to hone her skills and make the steps necessary to one day produce professionally.

A Creative Way to Write Lyrics New Member Alert! By far the most participative members of Navy Yard this month have been our brand new members Ariana and Olivia! It’s karaoke night every night with these two!
This month, Navy Yard wants to showcase a breakthrough in lyric writing and musical composition. Navy Yard Program Directors, Russell and Mimi, have been working with youth Mehret to create an album of original songs. Like most songwriters, Mehret finds lyrics a lot more difficult to create than melody. This week, we put together a little “workshop” on how to write lyrics using tools such as gibberish vocals, fill in the blanks, and other improvisation strategies. The song is mostly written now so stay tuned for the release!
