ODE TO DILLA This song off the 313 day ep was heavily inspired by J Dilla’s production techniques. Elon found a sample that she liked and she and Myrick chopped it up in two different ways. We also learned how to make unquantized drums to emphasize swing much like J Dilla did!
IT’S A CRAZY LIFE For this song off the 313 day ep, youth were more focused on lyrical content. We were discussing situations that the youth had been involved in during the previous week which inspired the hook and title of the song, and youth went into more detail within their verses.

This beat was produced by both Lailani and Samantha, as they have taken an interest in making beats. All of the lyrics are freestyled and youth have been experimenting with the "punch in" style of recording and have been really enjoying it!

STOP AND WAIT Devon is super interested in jersey club and wanted to make a remix of a video he saw. We took parts of the sample we wanted to loop and then came up with two different drum patterns, one was more of a jersey club style pattern, and the other was remiscent of a jerk beat.

KALEB WITH THE PIPES Kaleb is the old soul of the Detroit studio and always comes in with his favorite songs, usually from an era none of the other youth are familiar with! Here he is practicing his singing with one of his favorite Chris Brown songs. He is still nervous to perform in front of other people but with each time he practices he gets more and more confident!
BTS OF CLOCKIN’ TEA With this video you can see the genesis of the first verse of Clockin’ Tea. This is right after Lailani and Cierra made the beat, and you can see in the audio files where the youth punched in their verses. The younger youth expressed a preference for the punch in style of recording as it takes less time, and the youth get to stay in the booth for longer!
