For Black History Month we made a remake of Man in the Mirror by Michael Jackson. Karter took the lead on guitar, keys, drums and some supporting vocals. We also have vocals from Elon, drums from Kyle and Jaylen. The lead vocals are from the St. Paul studio over in Minnesota
HEARTBEAT This track was almost entirely produced by the youth listed on this track! I wrote in an arpeggio for them to follow, then they decided what instruments needed to be added. Kaleb played drums to a click track for the first time ever, and Andrew and Messiah added different melodic elements on the midi keyboard
BOUND 2 REMIX Kyle has been taking an interest in production and wanted to try to make a remix of Bound 2 by Kanye. We learned about arrangement, automation, and how to add dynamics to a beat with this track. Kyle is eager to learning more about producing and gets better each time he comes into the studio!

WORKIN ALL THE TIME Eli approached this track with a more stripped back and aggressive style. He has been releasing music on spotify on his own so in the original version there is some profanity. We discussed some of the lyrics and he emphasized that the "foot on their neck" line was a metaphor for having the rap game in a chokehold, rather than condoning actual violence.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATION The SAY Play center continued their annual Black History Month celebration with presentations from students across the many electives offered throughout the organization. Youth had a great time celebrating the achievements of Black people in the United States and embracing their culture. At Notes for Notes, we created a behind the scenes video of the creation the Man in the Mirror remake to highlight the efforts the youth put in, and presented it to the entire center!
MIDWINTER BREAK JAMMING During the midwinter break at Detroit Public Schools, Notes for Notes stayed open for day hours, and youth took a large interest in learning how to play some of their favorite songs on different instruments! We ended up doing a lot of Katseye songs and the youth had a great time learning how to work as a team, how to balance the volume of each instrument, and how to improvise their own parts!
