FLOWERS FOR DILLA
“AT ALL” CHICAGO BLUES
For Black History Month we had the honor of celebrating the life of J Dilla. We recreated 3 tracks and had our youth cover and even write original lyrics. With some collaboration from N4N Detroit we were able to bring his style to life! You will find a strong tonality of love, and unity within this project. The youth were not only able to learn about his sound and feats, but got the chance to really step into his shoes, and those of the artists who surrounded him. We hope you enjoy our EP, Flowers For Dilla!
We chose Blues as our genre for the N4N BHM project this year, and BOY are we happy about the results. Mr. Darius created a base Blues instrumental, that was accompanied by drums from one of our teens, Nicholas, and guitar+vocals from Carmello. Carmello really was able to capture a modern, yet reminiscent energy in this not so lovey dovey heartbreak ballad. The homage for the genre remains strong, while achieving a new way to do Blues.
