Charlena makes her first voice over, using video from The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. We worked on making some playful changes to his words that still matched his mouth, syncing up to video, and using the right reverb to emulate the Grinch’s cavernous lair. Watch the final project here!
Nationally recognized comedian and actor, Myron Jewell comes in to work with youth and talk about his upcoming podcast. Jada wrote a spoken word intro, while Corey and Xsavis finalized some intro music. The rest of the class brainstormed some different topic and trends that they could discuss.

Dr. Mike Pauers joined students to record some heavy bass lines and heartfelt harmonies with his Baritone Saxophone on a number of songs & beats. Here Warren learns microphone placement and we compare the sound from 3 different microphones. Dr. Pauers talked about the importance of disciplined practice, and not always taking the easy route – which he exemplified by choosing to play on a plastic reed when he was young (which is more durable but harder to play). Hear him lay it down on Cam’ron’s beat here!

DJEMBE DETERMINATION! Noah plays on the djembe almost every day in class in preparation for the upcoming Black History Month presentation. Our plan is to learn and create rhythms that connects to his roots while paving a path for the future while using these sounds in modern day beats. Check out a short preview here!
