TOP 25 things every NSU Freshman needs to know. 1. You might meet your new best friend at Freshman Connection orientation.
2. Don’t be “too cool for school.” Participate in all of the Demon Days activities. 3. Know where your classes are located. It can get awkward finding out that you are in Ballet instead of Algebra and having to back out of the room slowly. 4. 8 a.m. classes aren’t for the faint of heart…don’t put your alarm clock anywhere near your bed. 5. Getting a tutor does not make you look dumb. Not getting one when you need help, does. Take advantage of the free tutoring offered at Watson Library. 6. Get out and explore the campus. Familiarize yourself with the buildings and the many Student Service departments that are available to you. Do the same with the beautiful city of Natchitoches. We weren’t recently voted Best Southern Small Town by readers of USA TODAY and 10 Best for nothing! 7. Make sure to check your student email often. This is how you find out when classes might be cancelled…you don’t want to miss out on that! 8. Attend as many athletic events as possible. Supporting your student athletes can get you free food and gear. 9. Running in the “Inferno” is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Don’t be afraid to “paint up!” 10. Learn the Demon Fight Song…Go, Fight, Win! 11. On Fridays, we wear purple. Just do it! 12. The third floor of Watson Library is the perfect place to study…and nap if needed. 13. Isabella did not eat your homework. Your professors won’t buy that one. 14. Be prepared for your dreams and major to change…embrace it!

15. You can only use Febreeze so many times before people notice that your clothes aren’t really clean. Learn how to do laundry. 16. Try out many different clubs and organizations… even the ones you don’t think you’ll like, you might be surprised. 17. You will procrastinate. You will hate yourself for it. You will continue to procrastinate….try not to make this a habit. 18. Everyone is as new to you as you are to them…forget about the past mistakes and figure out who you are. 19. The freshman fifteen is real…take advantage of the WRAC and the group fitness classes. 20. Sleep is a precious commodity…but the C-store has Starbucks for when you do tip #17 and need to get your work done. 21. Don’t be afraid to ask for help…you’d be surprised how many people have asked the same questions and made the same mistakes. This is a learning experience after all! 22. Be confident, get out of your comfort zone, and try new things. Being an NSU Demon is the opportunity to find yourself and make memories. 23. Utilize your academic advisor as often as possible. They are not just mythical creatures, and are here to help guide you in completing your major. When you graduate, it is a WIN for them as well. 24. Yes, we do have the coolest President around! And he is always around. Meet him! He genuinely wants to meet you!
