As a research-intensive university, we’re at the forefront of creating new knowledge that tackles real-world challenges. You’ll be taught by academics actively pushing the boundaries of their fields. You won’t just learn about cutting-edge research — there’ll be opportunities to be part of it, co-creating knowledge rather than just consuming it.

Work experience
Step into real workplaces with placement and internship opportunities. From NHS wards and local schools to industry-leading companies, gain insight into your future career, boost your CV, build skills, and create networks that open doors after graduation.

OUR CAMPUSES
Northumbria University has three main UK campuses: the central Newcastle City Campus, the nearby Coach Lane Campus (Faculty of Health and Wellbeing), and a third campus in London, near Liverpool Street Station, focusing on business, technology, and computing courses. These campuses offer distinct environments, from the city-centre buzz of Newcastle to the specialised facilities at Coach Lane and London.

CITY CENTRE CAMPUS

Our City Campus is in the heart of Newcastle city centre, close to cafés, shops and cultural centres, making it the perfect place to make the most of your time at university.
We continuously invest in our campuses to support teaching, research, and learning. Recent projects include specialist laboratory space in the Ellison buildings and new tiered lecture theatres in the Squires Building and Durant Hall, a listed former church that offers modern, highspecification teaching facilities in a historic setting.
Our Student Central and City Campus Library offer a secure and supportive 24/7 environment to enhance your studies. Some of our specialist buildings include a Computer and Information Sciences Building, Architecture Studios and a University Gallery.
City Campus is home to Sport Central, with a modern fitness centre, 25m swimming pool, sauna and steam room,
and Northumbria Students’ Union which boasts entertainment venues, bars, student workspaces and The Green House coffee shop.
Work is underway to develop Northumbria’s North East Space Skills and Technology Centre (NESST) – a £50m space skills, research and development centre set to transform the UK space industry, expected to open on campus in 2026.
Plans are also currently underway to develop a new research-focused facility to bring teaching and research together across our Science and Environment and Health and Wellbeing faculties, providing a modern, fit-for-purpose facility, enhancing and growing our research capacity and capability.

COACH LANE CAMPUS
Coach Lane Campus is home to our healthcare and education courses. Located just three miles from the city centre, Coach Lane is an extensive site with its own Students’ Union, Library and IT suites.
Our specialist Clinical Skills Centre is a purpose-built facility that allows our students to develop practical skills and gain valuable experience of real hospital situations through a simulated environment.
Coach Lane can be easily reached from City Campus by a free bus service seven days a week.

LONDON CAMPUS
Located in the heart of the city, our London Campus is situated just minutes away from Liverpool Street station. The campus is in a well-known student hub, around the corner from several other university campuses. Students benefit from studying in a location where the financial district meets the heart of London’s digital and technology sector.
We offer full-time and part-time courses in business, management, computing, cyber security, project management and technology.

STUDY ABROAD
At Northumbria, we’re proud to offer students a range of opportunities to have new experiences living abroad.
Almost every degree programme at Northumbria has the option for a sandwich year where students can opt to study abroad with one of our 170+ partner universities. Our destinations for study abroad include USA, France, Austria, South Korea, Australia and Japan to name just a few.
Over 200 students choose to study abroad each year to help enhance their CV, expand their academic networks, and gain invaluable experience studying modules which will help them advance within their chosen industry.
Northumbria students at any level of study can also participate in one of our International Short Programmes for 2-8 weeks over summer.
These programmes are run by external providers, giving students the opportunity to work, study or volunteer abroad without committing to a full year or semester abroad.
The International Short Programmes are open to undergraduate students, postgraduate students and even graduates within 12 months of completing a course, with partners in Colombia, Fiji, St. Lucia, Mexico and more!
For some students, the opportunity to study their subject in a different academic environment is key, and for others the opportunity to live in another culture and interact with students of different nationalities is the real attraction.
