WHAT’S HAPPENING Wilson retiring from NFL to join CBS Sports New York Ten-time Pro Bowl and former NC State QB Russell Wilson is retiring from the NFL to become an analyst on CBS’ Sunday NFL pregame show. In a video on social media, Wilson called working on “The NFL Today” his “next chapter.” Wilson played 14 seasons after being taken by Seattle in the third round of the 2012 NFL draft after four years at NC State. He spent his first 10 seasons with the Seahawks before playing for Denver, Pittsburgh and the New York Giants.
Trump to nominate Blanche to serve as attorney general Washington, D.C. President Donald Trump says he will nominate Todd Blanche to serve as attorney general, tapping his former personal attorney who has aggressively pursued the Republican president’s agenda while leading the Justice Department in an acting role. A former federal prosecutor in New York, Blanche came to public prominence for his lead role on Trump’s defense team, including during the Republican’s hush money trial in New York. That perch afforded him, he has said, a firsthand look at what he contends was the weaponization of the criminal justice system against Trump.

SCS selects new transportation, student services directors The school district announced two leadership hires By Jesse Deal Stanly News Journal ALBEMARLE — Stanly County Schools has named two new district leaders, selecting Sidney Cecil as director of transportation and Judith Taylor as executive director of student services. The school district announced both hires Monday morning in separate news releases. Cecil, who currently serves as assistant principal at Ledford High School, joins SCS
with nearly 18 years of experience in education, including more than 15 years working with school transportation operations. He began his education career in 2009 as a physical education teacher and coach before becoming an athletic director in 2012. Cecil later moved into school administration in 2021, serving students and staff at both the middle and high school levels. While working at South Davidson Middle/High School, he helped improve staff retention from 78% to 92% and was part of a leadership team that helped the school meet See DIRECTORS, page A8
