EDITORS' NOTE

Spring arrives with a sense of anticipation, the kind that invites fresh ideas and moments worth celebrating. It’s a season that mirrors exactly where many couples find themselves as they begin planning a wedding full of intention and heart.

Inside the Spring 2026 Issue, you’ll find inspiration designed to move you. This issue highlights local love stories, a curated preview of bridal gown trends from area boutiques, and a floral-driven stylized shoot that captures spring in motion. Soft pastels layered with vibrant pops of color, graceful serpentine tables, and romantic design details come together to show how modern weddings can feel both elevated and full of life.

Fashion takes center stage as we preview the dresses defining the season, gowns that balance romance with confidence, softness with structure. Paired with thoughtful design ideas and color palettes, these pages are meant to help you envision a celebration that feels distinctly your own.

As you plan, we encourage you to pause and enjoy the process. Let inspiration spark ideas, but let love guide your decisions. The most beautiful weddings are created not just through design, but through meaning, connection, and the joy of building something together.

Thank you for allowing us to be part of your journey. We’re honored to serve as your local wedding guide.

John + Colleen

From the Photographer’s Perspective

Welcome to Colleen and John’s Journeyman wedding in Valparaiso.

This is one of my favorite weddings this past year! Their day started around 10:00 a.m in the bridal room at Journeyman. I walked in to two of my favorite fellow vendors, Cheri from Top Knot doing hair and Krissy from Krissy V Makeup getting all the glam going.

Early starts like this give me time to get awesome details. Journeyman is a treasure trove of spaces for dress, shoes and so many more details. Colleen had designed most of the decorations herself and had her family putting things out. It was a fun time for some candids of that too.

Colleen and John did a first look in the side room overlooking the garden space. I love first looks as they free up time for more formals and a couple can enjoy cocktail hour.

We had time to get indoor and outdoor formals before guests arrived. Again, Journeyman is just a dream for cool spaces and lighting.

The indoor ceremony was very personal and there were so many happy tears.

Boris from Precision Sound kept us on time for the reception start and had the dance floor packed all night.

I think the photos capture the emotions and beauty of the day and the venue well.

It was such a pleasure capturing this wedding for Colleen and John.

“The ceremony was incredibly personal, filled with so many happy tears.”

Describe Your Wedding Vision

My wedding vision didn’t stay the same throughout the process of wedding planning, as there are several different styles, trends, and ideas circulating today. It’s important to remember to make your own unique theme and stay true to who you are while remembering what you and your spouse would want. I love everything bohemian, gold, and rustic so I knew I wanted to incorporate those pieces into our day. The gold added in with the bohemian style adds a level of elegance. Although, finding the right venue that suited my husband and I was also a big portion of my vision because I wanted the style of our wedding to align with the venue. Therefore, finding a barn themed venue only felt right. When it came to finding the right flowers, pampas grass down the aisle and at the altar was a must! I loved the light and feathery vibes of these pieces so adding them into the bouquets made everything blend perfectly together.

Describe Your Wedding Day

Leading up to the wedding day, it didn’t feel real to me. Too often we get in the mindset of fulfilling these check lists and tasks that need done prior to the big day. When the day of the wedding came around I felt like I was on overdrive and I was thinking of anything that I could have missed or forgot about. The truth is, we are human and there will be things that we forget. That is just part of life.

My husband and I chose to not see each other until the altar and it truly was the best decision we made. The nerves and the whirlwind of emotions that you feel when you are anticipating seeing your spouse really makes you realize how much you truly love them. After seeing each other at the altar, all of our nerves subsided and we were able to transition into the reception, where we had our meal and then transitioned into the cake cutting, dances, and speeches. After all of the special moments had their spotlight, we danced the night away with no timeline but to enjoy our time with family and friends who came to support us on one of our biggest days.

Your Advice to Engaged Couples:

The biggest piece of advice that I can give is to be in the moment. When the wedding day comes, you will feel overwhelmed and forget to see what is in front of you. It is so easy to look forward to what is happening next and forget that you are in the moment you wanted so badly. Chasing the next task or piece on the timeline will only make the day fly by and then you will be wanting it back. When the big day comes, all of small things will fade away and you will realize that you wasted your time worrying over something that wasn’t worth worrying about.

Staying with your spouse throughout the night is also very important! It may sound silly, but it can be so easy to get distracted when talking with family and friends, then you find yourselves apart. You are two, becoming one. It is a special day celebrating you and your spouse, so enjoy it with them and take it all in because you will not get it back!

“Be in the moment. It’s so easy to look ahead to what’s next and forget you’re living the day you waited for.”

Design, Decor & Floral

Design, decor, and florals were curated by Burns Special Events and set the tone throughout the space. Lush spring blooms were styled with purpose, allowing color and texture to lead without overwhelming the design. Serpentine tables introduced natural flow and visual interest, offering a modern take on the reception layout. Clear acrylic chairs and luxurious curved sofa chairs kept the setting light, letting the florals and tabletop details remain the focal point.

Photography

Photographed by Shane Lawrence Photography, the imagery captures the movement and colors of the day with clarity. Each frame highlights the balance between softness and structure that defined the shoot.

Cake

Sweet Em’s Cake Shoppe provided a cake that echoed the shoot’s clean design and spring palette. This beautiful 3-tiered cake, with delicate hand-painted flowers, was simply beautiful and brought the whole look to a new level.

Hair & Makeup

Our model, Samantha Gargas, embodied a refined, romantic vision of spring with effortless grace. Her look felt both fresh and elevated, exactly the balance you want in an editorial bridal moment. Hair was done by Mane by Madison and styled in a delicate wavy updo that was simply beautiful. Allee Makeup focused on luminous skin and subtle definition for a timeless, editorial finish. These talented stylists consistently create cohesive, cameraready beauty. Their approach ensures each model and bride not only look picture perfect, but feels confident and completely elevated in front of the lens.

Describe Your Wedding Vision

Our wedding vision was centered around timeless elegance, warmth, and joy. With a classic black, white, and champagne aesthetic, we wanted the day to feel classic, romantic, and effortlessly sophisticated. We envisioned an atmosphere where love is truly felt in every detail—from soft candlelight and meaningful moments to the energy of celebration filling the room. Above all, we wanted our guests to feel cherished and welcomed, knowing how important they are to us and to our story. The day was not only a celebration of our love, but of the incredible love, laughter, and fun that both of our families bring as they come together as one. We imagined a joyful, elevated celebration where heartfelt moments blended seamlessly with dancing, laughter, and unforgettable memories shared with the people we love most.

Describe Your Wedding Day

Our wedding day was an absolute celebration of love, laughter, and togetherness, filled with treasured memories. Seeing our families come together as one made the day feel warm, lively, and overflowing with shared happiness. There were so many special moments—toast with our grandparents, first looks with our families, the first touch before the ceremony, cutting the cake with our parents—that made everything personal and sentimental. Love was in the air every second, and we hope our guests felt it too. Excitement and tingling nerves carried us through the day, amplified by the immaculate help and preparation from everyone around us. And yes, we forgot the cake— but it was perfectly us. We laughed it off, and the impromptu coconut cake became a memorable moment. From meaningful memories to energetic celebrations, it was a day to cherish and remember forever.

Your Advice to Engaged Couples

Our advice to engaged couples is to truly soak in every single moment, even when the planning feels overwhelming or stressful. Take your time with the process and allow yourselves to enjoy it—this season is just as meaningful as the wedding day itself. When your day arrives, make space for a quiet moment together to step back, breathe, and really take it all in. Those small pauses often become the most treasured memories—and if you’re considering a private last dance, do it. Remember that marriage is about partnership: work as a team, communicate openly, and listen to one another—you have two ears and one mouth for a reason. Never go to bed angry, and always approach challenges with patience and respect. Above all, choose love daily, support each other fully, and never lose sight of the joy, laughter, and commitment that brought you together in the first place.

“Seeing our families come together as one made the day feel warm, lively, and overflowing with happiness.”

Reid + Liz

Describe Your Wedding Vision

We dreamed of a day that felt wholeheartedly us — a celebration bursting with color, mixed patterns, funky florals, and vibrant tablescapes. We wanted it to feel like a joyful explosion of personality and creativity, while still weaving in timeless, sentimental elements that honored where we come from.

One of my favorite details was using the same cake topper and cake knife my parents used on their wedding day 40 years ago. Incorporating pieces of their love story into ours made the day feel deeply personal and incredibly special.

We had always imagined a reception that truly rocked the night — electric, warm, and full of the people we love most. The colors, textures, florals, and energy all melted together into something that felt both elevated and completely comfortable. Shoutout to our band, The Crasherz, for absolutely rocking the house — the dance floor stayed hot all night long.

Describe Your Wedding Day

Our wedding day felt like stepping into one of the most beautiful memories we’ll ever hold.

The morning itself was such a treasure. I got ready in my parents’ kitchen, surrounded by my best friends — yapping, giggling, and slipping right back into the comfort of lifelong friendship.

One moment I’ll always hold close was Reid and my first look in the backyard of my childhood home. That space holds some of my happiest memories, and watching him walk down the hill toward me, in the place that shaped so much of who I am, felt incredibly full-circle and meaningful.

Walking into the reception and seeing our vision come to life truly took our breath away. Having everyone we love under one roof was its own kind of magic. I remember looking around the dance floor and feeling like I was in a movie — smiling ear to ear, twirling with loved ones, and soaking in what had already become the greatest day of our lives. There’s no other way to put it: it was truly the best day ever.

Advice to Engaged Couples

Cherish the whirlwind that comes with being engaged — it’s one of the most magical seasons of your life. It goes by so much faster than you expect, so pause often and soak in the love, excitement, and joy that surround you.

Celebrate the little moments: the planning sessions, every “show me the ring!”, and the shared anticipation of building a life together. Take time to enjoy the ride — it’s one of the best parts of the story.

“Our wedding day felt like stepping into one of the most beautiful memories we’ll ever hold.”

Creating a Stress-Free Wedding Morning

How to Begin Your Day Calm, Centered, and Truly Present

The morning of your wedding sets the tone for everything that follows. It is the beginning of one of the most meaningful days of your life, and creating a calm, intentional atmosphere can make all the difference. With just a little planning, your wedding morning can feel peaceful, joyful, and full of quiet moments you will remember long after the celebration ends. Here are a few thoughtful ways to start your day with ease.

Build a Morning Timeline That Works for You

A stress-free wedding morning starts with a realistic schedule. Work with your hair and makeup artists to determine how much time is needed for each person, then add a buffer for unexpected delays.

Make sure you know when your photographer will arrive, when you will get dressed, and whether you are doing a first look. A clear timeline keeps everyone relaxed and allows the morning to unfold smoothly, without feeling rushed.

Choose a Comfortable Getting-Ready Space

Where you spend your morning matters. Select a space that feels comfortable, bright, and uncluttered. Natural light is wonderful for both makeup and photos, and a spacious room gives everyone room to breathe.

Surround Yourself With the Right People

Your wedding morning should be filled with positive energy. Invite only the people who help you feel relaxed, supported, and happy. Whether it is your bridal party, your parents, siblings, or a few close friends, choose individuals who will encourage you and help keep the atmosphere light.

Avoid overwhelming the space with too many voices. A smaller, intentional group makes it easier to stay present and enjoy the moment.

Prepare the Essentials Ahead of Time

Reduce last-minute stress by organizing everything the night before. Lay out your attire, accessories, shoes, and jewelry. Keep your vows, rings, stationery items, and detail pieces together in one spot so your photographer can capture them easily.

Hydrate, eat a nourishing breakfast, and keep snacks nearby. A steady morning routine helps you feel grounded and energized for the celebrations ahead.

Create a Relaxing Atmosphere

Set the tone with music you love, light a candle or diffuse calming scents (if allowed), and enjoy the simple luxury of being taken care of. Many couples choose to begin their day quietly: journaling, saying a prayer, or taking a slow moment to breathe before the excitement begins.

A peaceful environment helps keep nerves at bay and allows you to truly enjoy the anticipation of the ceremony.

Take Time to Be Present

Above all, slow down. Look around the room and notice the people who showed up for you. Feel the weight of your dress or tux. Breathe in the moment.

Your wedding morning is one of the few pauses in a day filled with celebration. By taking even a minute to be present, you create memories you will treasure forever.

A stress-free wedding morning does not require perfection — it simply requires intention. By planning thoughtfully and surrounding yourself with calm, supportive energy, you can begin your wedding day feeling centered, joyful, and ready for every moment that follows.

Rob + Kara

CLING & PECK

Describe Your Wedding Vision

Our wedding vision was rooted in timeless glamour, inspired by the elegance of the 1920s and elevated by the historic setting of the Morris Performing Arts Center and Palais Royale. Built in 1922 and architecturally connected, the venues’ shared history and grand ballrooms naturally aligned with our Gatsby-inspired New Year’s Eve celebration. The ceremony design at the Morris Theatre was intentionally restrained, allowing the space’s soaring ceilings, gilded details, and glowing chandeliers to take center stage, softened by ivory florals for a cinematic feel. For the reception, the aesthetic deepened into black-and-gold glamour, with long tables dressed in rich black linens, layered gold accents, and more than 1,200 candles glowing beneath crystal chandeliers, creating an intimate yet opulent atmosphere that felt unmistakably celebratory.

Describe Your Wedding Day

Our wedding day was a true labor of love, thoughtfully crafted with meaningful details that honored our families and shared history. The cake was an exact replica of Kara’s grandparents’ 1952 wedding cake, paired with Rob’s parents’ original cake-cutting set. Kara carried a bouquet wrapped in lace from her mother’s 1980s wedding dress, which she also wore in altered form as a surprise at the rehearsal dinner. Kara’s mother created the ring bearer pillows from scraps of Kara’s gown, while Rob’s late father was honored with a reserved sign beside his mother and a pin placed inside Rob’s tuxedo jacket. Kara’s brother designed the custom KR wedding logo, which was used throughout the celebration, adding a deeply personal finishing touch.

Your Advice to Engaged Couples

Love means never keeping score…unless it’s whose family you saw last. The fastest way to end an argument? Say, “You’re right,” even if you have no idea why. Don’t go to bed angry. Stay up and talk it out like mature adults, or at least order food first. Hunger is behind more fights than you think. You don’t need separate hobbies, just separate bathrooms. Your partner isn’t a mind reader, but small annoyances, like loud chewing, should be addressed with humor. Social media posts don’t equal relationship health, and silence can be golden. Marriage is a long conversation where both secretly feel lucky. Remember, it’s not you versus them, it’s both of you versus the problem. And when all else fails, “Yes, dear”.

“Our wedding vision was rooted in timeless glamour, inspired by the elegance of the 1920s.”
