Ailan Currents features new work by Torres Strait Artists Joey Laifoo, Billy Missi, Dennis Nona, Brian Robinson, Joel Sam, Leroy Alua Savage and Alick Tipoti. The exhibition will be officially launched on Saturday by John Toshie Kris, the Chairperson of the Torres Strait Regional Authority.
The Torres Strait Creole spelling of ‘Ailan’ (island) in the title of Ailan Currents reflects the strong ties that the featured artists have with their island homes, and the cultural traditions and stories that endure through their works of art.
